Sorry, but at least the deed got done.

And, you are so right. A Nearmiss is a nearmiss.

It is a great image isn't it. Looks like a photograph.

I'm just thinking with all those pixels being addressed for cockpit views is my computer going to be able to render all the graphic stuff fast enough in a busy air combat for good fps. Whew...

Why is the pilot looking at the floor? He'll crash if he keeps flying like that.

BTW, given all the time in development and the many months I presume are ahead, I hope that SoW makes good use of DX11 lighting and tessellation.

Wow those 3 new screens look great!

Yes I did notice the blur, pretty cool smile

Also read the blue text on the side of the first screen. I see "Engine Govenor, Magneto, and Comepressor" failure. Sounds like the damage model will be more specific. Cool!

Honestly, I don't get motion blur. When lcds came out, people whined about the poor pixel response time - blurred objects during fast motion. Now we need to add it back in on our better displays?

Motion blur is over done in too many games already - it needs to die. I didn't pay the extra money for a quality monitor to have slow-response pixel effects added back in. Horrible offender example - F.E.A.R. 2 - I'm sure as hell glad I rented that stupid game, they overused motion blur badly.

Note to developers - motion blur is a fad.

The cockpit detail is awesome and so are the aircraft models!

But honestly I don't like the terrain, it' doesn't fell like Britain at all! It looks more like a Pacific scenario than Britain and I think the reason for that is that the colors are way too bright. All terrain colors need to be darker (or else it will look more like a Pacific island than Britain).
I also didn't like the Cliffs of Dover (look into the screenshots at 1C forum). The ones from SoW are greyish and opposed to the terrain the SoW Cliffs are darker than the real ones which are in fact whiteish, afterall they are known as the WHITE Cliffs of Dover.
Humm, let's see: The SoW terrain is brighter than the real one and the Cliffs are darker than the real one. I hope that Oleg and his team fix this!

The airplane pics looks outstanding (although I shudder to think what kind of machine will be required to run it at that level of detail) but:

1. WTF is that mountain? It looks like the thing from Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

2. Why did the Russian forum get most of the cool in-flight shots and we get pics of the flight line at Dogpatch International?

Just kidding...looking forward to this muchly (and holding off on my pc upgrade).

Motion blur and bloom. Since the technology now supports it, developers have added both in extreme amounts that detracts from realism. Hopefully Oleg doesn't subscribe to either of the latest techo-crap offerings.

The problem isn't actually motionblur and bloom in itself, the problem is most devs choose to implement'em using low-level technologies, which leads to very poorly implemented ones that don't feel realistic and feel overdone.

Object-based motionblur like in Crysis on maxed settings is great IMO, and HDR too can be great since it can actually be used to mimic the human eye in having it realistically adjust your sight to strong lightsources etc.

Anyway, it's looking great, I have to say though, I laughed when I saw how Oleg got mad when someone said he thought IL-2 BoP has better looking terrain, linked a screenshot of it, and Oleg said something along the lines of "We do not want Storm of War to look like a cartoon", personally I don't think BoP looks like a cartoon!

Anyway, I can't wait for more info, but personally I'm a bit bored with WW2 flight sims, I can't wait for a good Korean war flight sim to come again!

Well FYI bloom and HDR are generally two different things within gaming, Bloom is simply bloom, whereas HDR is HDR, lightbloom and HDR can function very differently, for a game that makes good use of HDR I think Gran Turismo 5 or Project Gotham Racing 4 are good examples.

But yes, many games overdo it, like the GRAW games for example, and more importantly IL-2 BoP.

Most devs use'em to try to hide imperfections in the distance.

But I still feel, giving the player the OPTION to use high-end HDR and motionblur if they want ain't bad, not like one's gonna be forced to use'em.

So we've all learned something.

I can't add a smiley there Gargantou as you may think that I am being sarcastic which I am not, 'So we've all learned something' is a cliche not Mington's thought.

One must make cliches work for their money!

I hope you smile along with me and that you've recovered from that alcohol session. Or even remember it
Smile2

It's a bit like people talking about post-processed movies being 'only computer graphics' a few years ago. 'Only bloom', 'Only HDR'

The early pioneers like to make sure that you can see the join, followed soon by more care to respect a more realistic feel to rendering. The filters will be over-used by some developers for a time, for effect yes rather than for naturalism

Graphics fans coda:-

You can see natural bloom when there's lots of water vapour condensing around you in autumn mistiness, the traffic lights are glowing: the furry peach in sunlight. The more complex high dynamic range lighting simulates something that takes place in the brain, the non-linear nature of light and light receptors, range compression. That number you see in the specification of a monitor, dynamic range 1000/1 and so on

Risen potential pre-purchasers' note:-

At the height of an electrical storm the like of which I have not witnessed before in a game, I created the fabulous SoulDrinker sword with hammer and anvil. That was fairly cool but when I left the smith's yard and walked to the sea wall and looked up into the face of the storm out to sea, I thought 'Ok make a save here, she is definitely not going to believe this' Smile2

Ming, I don't consume alcohol so it's hard for me to get drunk and I take great offense at you suggesting such and as thus I challenge you to a duel!

But yes you are correct, whereas bloom in games is generally a set value(I.e. it's always on), HDR in games generally try to simulate the way the human eyes adapt to light, for example IRL, sit in a very very bright room for a few hours, then turn off the lights, only with windows during the night, at first you will barely see anything because your pupils change in such a way that they lit in as little light as possible due to the previously bright sources of light, sit 3 hours again, your pupils will now be quite widely open in order to let in as much light as possible, turn on the light, bam you're temporarily blinded.

ARMA2 for example.

Also, I remember when I was given eye-medicine, that permanently(for a day) completely dilated my pupils, goddamn every single source of light made my head hurt like hell.
