I finally got my desktop rebuilt after it died and am getting back into flying. After seeing that the A-10 was going to be the next aircraft released by DCS, I've been getting familiar with the A-10 again in LOMAC. While I was working on my A2G gunnery I noticed the following.

I engaged a T-80 with the cannon (set at high-speed) w/ the range clock at 3 (not sure what the actual slant range is, but well within range) head on. On two different passes I put shells into the tank along both sides. I then tried a rear attack, and with roughly the same setup and distance. I scored a kill on the first burst.

Does anyone know if LOMAC models the armor facing/effectiveness on vehicles to determine how much damage they take? I remember a long time ago Andy Bush posting an A-10 pilots coloring book, the specifically advised against attacking from the front or sides on a T-80 as the armor was too strong.

Cheers,

That was actually a T-62 or 64, IIRC, and the T-80 is far better armored.

I forget if things such as facing are modeled in LOFC, though they are somewhat modeled in DCS Black Shark.

It will probably be one of the areas to see improvement as the series progresses.

Yeah I went back and looked at it the other day and saw it was the 62/64 instead of the T-80. The T-80U is also the penultimate version of that family featuring the best armor, engines, optics, etc.

After doing some testing I am able to score kills against the frontal arc. It takes some work, but it is doable. Definitely be an interesting addition if it's included in the new DCS A-10C.
