as far as i know Steam isnt a mafia gang but they still maneged to give me an offer i couldnt refuse WinkNGrin

i dont know if i should have put following in a different topic.
anyway

when its downloaded (eventually) what would i need to do?
i guess steam will take care of the patching up part but what else do you suggest? mods? addons?

i saw someone talk about the blur effects were over done and the were a patch that would reduce that? is it reccomended? where do i get it? Armaholic?

thanks for the help in advance.

Hi,

I'd start by playing a bit stock. Just an hour or two. Then when you install a new sound addon, or some mod, you can compare whether you prefer it to stock.

For example, there are many replacement textures or models at places like Armaholic. These vary and your taste will determine if you prefer them to stock. I like the default textures, but prefer VOP sound addon right now.

Check our sticky above, some of the addons don't change much, but add to what's in the game. Little details like a compass display in the binos, or NV goggles that have a manual brightness adjustment.

Really just mix and match what you really like best, build your own ideal ArmA2 addon set, and have fun with it.

The blur effect, I disable mine through the default options screen (listed as "Post Processing"). Does the trick for me.

I was just about to pick this up, but 50% off at Steam is pretty attractive. What is the downside of using Steam? Can you still apply the same patches? Update/Add-ons are typically still available as well? I just recently got OFP:DR on Steam, and so far so good, but not sure what will happen as it gets patches/modded etc.

Thanks.

I don't have the Steam version but as far as I know, Steam patches automatically when you connect after a patch release.
The mods are a different matter. You've to downloaded and install them manually.

I have the Steam version and have had no problems with it. It does patch automatically unless you change a setting in Steam to prevent automatic patching. The mods are installed on the Steam version the same way they are with the non-steam version. The beta patches are like a mod (AFAIK) so there are no issues in using those with a steam version either.

If not having a disc in your hot little hands doesn't bother you then I would say the Steam version is the way to go.
