I know myself and others are looking for a place to discuss this mod further, and help solve individual install issues.
Pleas post the link here.
thanks
Bill

This is a good place for reporting install issues on HSFX 4.0. This thread has been brought to my attention and I can answer any questions on the installer (I built it) and I can pass along other issues reported and get an answer on those as well. There is another thread as well. - http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/2883157/2/HSFX_v4_mod_pack_download.html - and it would be good if these two threads could be merged. Particularly on Zorins post on missing Credits. I'm very sorry about that, I don't know any of the specifics about it either, so I can't explain that at the moment, but I am looking into it and we will certainly change the Credits.

If simQ doesn't mind then i guess i will post my questions here, but i thought that it might be good to have a forum or site to refer to rather than one or two threads where i might have to sift through 10-20 pages to find an answer.
I'm just trying to think ahead.
Anyway,
I installed the HSFX patch over a fresh 4.09 install, and i can't get any of the mods to run. I used the switcher, and onbly activated the HSFX mod but it crashes at 5% when loading. Nice splash screen, but thats as far as i've gotten. =)
I found a fix where i added the mod_slot_coop folder, but it didn't help.
With the mods off, 4.09m loads just as it should.
any ideas?
Bill

They didnt ask me either, so what? I made around 300-400 skins if everytime when somebody uses one I'd be asked I would go crazy very fast...Imho they did a pretty good job with this package including the sensitive credits part.
...
Congrats, Prof!

mod_slot_coop folder fix is not a game breaker - it would not prevent you from running HSFX With the mods off, 4.09m loads just as it should.
any ideas?
have you checked hash sums of installed files ? I can not think of any other problems except non standard install of your 4.09m - if your download of HSFX is fine (md5 check) you must have made a mistake during install..... cheers

I ended up just repeating the process and installing a fresh 4.08 again , and patching to the 4.09 then to the HSFX. It works perfectly. Fairly simple too.
I would like to play around with it some more, but my first impressions are good. I was able to load the game with the HSFX and 6dof mods in 10 seconds.
I'm not sure why all the stubbornness from other mod users. It appears you can add any other mods that didn't make it in this version simply by adding them to the mods folder as you would with the UI. My guess is adding aircraft would be the exception to this process but if you wanted decal shine or other weathering mods, or special displays they can be plopped in the mod folder like any other modded game.
I've got my sound folders running in it just fine.
thanks for putting this together,
Bill

Bill This happened to me in testing once, so your not alone. I couldn't find the problem, it was a clean install, but I suspect somewhere there was corruption. I reinstalled it, same as the first time and everything worked. So your not imagining it, I've had this happen to, but I don't know what it was. A number of people have jumped to the conclusion that you can't "Mod a Mod". I don't know why, but you certainly can add any Mod you want to the HSFX package. It was something we specifically wanted to be sure people could do. We are absolutely against trying to lock an end user into any package, especially our own. The only reason the installer deleted the Files and Mods Folders, was for our community of users, to free up a couple of Gb. of disk space, because they would no longer need those files. This may have been interpreted as HSFX "getting rid of other Mods". I wish we had done this differently now, but we just weren't thinking of how it would impact other communities.

Excellent job Prof.
I can just confirm, mods can be added, including new planes. You may need a new Buttons, such as the SAS buttons, which includes all planes released so far.
Maps can be added as well, etc.
Mods included can be modded themselves, for instance cockpits can be changed if you put your changed files in the traditional MODS folder, they will be read first. Of course this process requires to be mod savvy.
Mods can be removed: you can edit the air.ini for instance to remove planes (but files will still remain in SFS archives, causing no harm).
All in all this is a great concept. It is like a new 4.09m upgraded modded install, welcoming further mods since it is mods enabled.
THANKS A LOT FOR THIS MAJOR UPGRADE TO THE GAME.

I'm really enjoying this mod pack but for one issue; I have not been able to get the zoom axis to work in 6DoF. I have tried enabling 6DoF using the JSGME, when I do I get a warning about incompatibility with HSFX, and everything but the zoom axis works. If I try simply putting my 6DoF folder from my UI 1.2 Install into the Mods folder, I get the same result. Is anyone else having this problem? Is this a known bug with a fix or workaround?

So, is it too soon to ask for instructions on setting up a Dedicated HSFX server?

Works as it should for me. I'm using the JSGME switcher and i would just make sure you are loading the HSFX mod first. If this is an issue, i would back up and first switch it to 4.09m which will turn off all the other mods. Make sure they are all on the left. Then move the HSFX mod to the right, then move the 6dof mod to the right. If you also have the 6dof mod in the mods folder then it might be conflicting with it, so make sure that its not in that folder, or that it has a "-". If you are still having a problem then i'm not sure what it is, but all axis including the zoom are working as they should for me. Bill

I quite enjoy this mod. Some observations:
Weird cockpit shake on the MS406 at about 500km/h
Engine damage sound is not that great though in the main the sounds are pretty good, the creaking is perhaps a little odd.
Fw-190 gunsights are a bit weird also, sight not obstructed by the bar in most though when in gunsight (shift F1) you are missing the bottom of the sight (sitting too low)
Gunsights on the whole seem larger. USN gunsights are a little odd also can't see the whole of the sight.
New style USAAF half ring sights are interesting though I don't doubt that they are real.
more to come.
Not convinced by the new tracer on the German stuff for 20mm tracer seems smaller than the 7.92mm N.B. I have no idea what tracer looks like in real life in real speed.
Some odd spin behaviour on some of the un oleg/4.09 aircraft, not to bad but noticeable.
Extra loadout options are great.
The bomb arming mod is a good one, though I don't think you can skip bomb with it enabled. No big issue though.
The engine mod is great. Little bit of extra torque and the underheat and low oil press options I think are a really nice addition. Haven't explored the low oil press limits too much.
New maps including Cannons channel map are good. Cannon's being outstanding.
Good work HSFX

regards HaJa, I remember this problem from a while ago with the AAA mods. A fix can be found [mod] at the All Aircraft Arcade site. [/mod]

Bf110G4 Skid ball sits to high and doesn't fit in the tube. In a similar vein the P38 skid ball is tiny.
Trying to load MDS sample missions Medium and Realistic I get an error message:
" Mission loading failed NO map in mission file"
MS406 indeed has a severe head shake issue at 530kmh IAS
I whisper ... bar in some Fw190's
HSFX uses the older revised skins from 4.09Bm1 not the updated Default skins that came with 4.09m. Can this be addressed ?
Spitfire MarkI paintschemes folder is incorrectly named (or was on my install). This results in only the default skin being selectable. The folder in HSFX install is called SpitfireMK1 it should be SpitfireMKI (replace the 1 with an I)

Bill, thank you. That fixed it for me- I just had to make sure to load the HSFX first, then the 6DoF. No apparent conflict having it in the Mods folder, but I'll likely remove it now that the problem's solved.

No yaw engine out in B-17 (I shutdown three a got no yaw at all) or B-24. Hs-129 has severe in normal flight yaw and the skid ball is very hard to see. Get a shorter duration shake like that in the MS406 in the Swordfish at around the 150km/h mark.

The bomb arming mod is a good one, though I don't think you can skip bomb with it enabled. No big issue though. This mod was left optional because of this, but the reason we have it is that we all got TOO good at skip-bombing in our SEOW campaigns, resulting in a lot of low-level attacks by large bombers rather than the high alt stuff they should have been doing. HSFX uses the older revised skins from 4.09Bm1 not the updated Default skins that came with 4.09m. Can this be addressed ? From the readme: Download FULL 4.09 skins. Olegs team released a lot of new default skins just after 4.09bm last year for many aircraft. This fb_3do20.sfs file has not been re-included in Full 4.09 either, but it is really worth it and is completely compatible (with either HSFX or 4.09):- I imagine that Charlie was expecting 4.09 to come with skins integrated, and when it didn't this was the easiest option. Or are the default 4.09 skins actually newer than the download? I'm getting confused now. Spitfire MarkI paintschemes folder is incorrectly named (or was on my install). This results in only the default skin being selectable. The folder in HSFX install is called SpitfireMK1 it should be SpitfireMKI (replace the 1 with an I) Yes, this has been noted. Both Mk1 and MkI folders are present; for now simply delete Mk1.

The file date for the last (4.09M default skins) was 1/10/09 I have no idea how the HSFX file system works but I presume the fb_hfx3do20.sfs overrides the stock sfs file. I think these newer skins need to be integrated into the fb_hfx3do20.sfs. At present I think this file gas the older 4.09

I see that this mod includes Canon's new Channel maps. Does it also have all of the separate mods needed to make it work? I remember trying to add all of that stuff to a UI installation and there was alot of cutting and pasting of text to do.

Does this affect CRT=2 ??? regards HaJa, I'm an off-liner, so I'm ashamed to say I didn't even know what CRT=2 referred to until about a week ago. The on-liners here might be able to answer that question though. Another thought I had was that since you're the first one posting this problem with HSFX, you might want to check the hash sums, in case one of your downloads was corrupted. AFAIK, the Russian language fix should be in HSFX. I haven't installed it yet (I'm still making a backup file of 4.09m, with my eight years of skins...only 1/2 hour to go over the SATAII bus...).

-Hi all, how are you? i hope fine. (sorry for my bad english)
-My Squad and I made some testing with the new mod. We found 2 issues.
-The Focke wulf A-4 shows mixture smoke problems online. The problem starts at 0 mts and up to top ceiling, the player who uses the focke wulf can't see the smoke but the others players can (modded and un modded).
-Second, In several servers we got connections but inmediately disconnected with "Timeout 0".

thanks for your bug reports, we are aware that there is a problem with memory leak on the coop_dedicated servers. CRT=2 will still work normally if you just start the server (coop, df) but if the server is empty for longer periods of time (as in 102nd_COOP_ded) CRT protection will fail even for perfectly good installs..., this will be sorted in first HSFX patch....

I remember trying to add all of that stuff to a UI installation and there was alot of cutting and pasting of text to do. Yes, Canon's maps work 'out of the box', no need to add anything else. There is one difference between them and the stock version though. I corrected all of the water anomalies, for use by Gilb57 in his four seasons maps. So you might notice a few cosmetic differences, but nothing important has changed, missions will play out exactly the same on both.

Wonderful work! I got to fly a Canon map-based mission and it worked beautifully, out of the box! JSGME and sfs file system is the way to go.

I just flew some Canon Channel map missions using the HSFX reccomended settings of 22khz sound and S3TC texture compression . . . it flew smoothly. I'm sure experiences will vary, but so far I am impressed.

Has anyone experienced problems with the HSFX version of the game not recognizing CH controllers? My HOTAS is all CH and is working just fine, but a friend is having real problems with it. He says they show up and calibrate in the CH software, but he can't get Il2/HSFX to allow axis assignments.

I just copied over the Users folder into HSFX and all was fine.

Only problem with HSFX4 mod is that i can't run the Black Death trak that i always use to benchmark my changes to settings and drivers.
All the other traks work just fine but not Blackie, it just gives this error message after loading. "mission loading failed: index:97,size 97:"
Anybody know what this means??? On 4.09M it works without any problem.

Really good work,
-Clouds mod and cockpit mods hiting fps down.. how to switchthem off?
-Bug with P51D20NA reticle... no sight point !
- OLC FPS Boost and OLC Water V2 mods, give better sea look and push up the fps, I try it with hsfx4, works fine.
-No rearviewmirror for P51D !

This is an interesting Mod. However, the biggest problem for me so far is the incredible accuracy of those Bomber Gunners.
I was testing last night with the HE111 and their accuracy is mind-boggling high!!!
I wanted to test with jest just to make sure the slower speeds of prop planes wasn't an imposing factor. I've passes from 5 6 and 7 o'clock high at speeds over 900KM/h pulling a lot of G's (some times the bomber was pulling G's too) and several times the gunners were able to hit me. Twice I was killed with a headshot. Now, the gunners in IL2 were already problematic in several situations. Have you guys actually made them worse?
This is the major no-no for me so far. I haven't tested with fighter planes, but the bomber AI really needs tweaking.
These are my first impressions.

I believe the AI mod included tunes down bomber AI some, so you should be seeing the same or worse accuracy than stock. I'd be very surprised if anything in this mod pack makes He-111 gunners more accurate.

Those HE111 gunners can head-shot me like no one else!!! (And I have only tested them on Veteran. What's waiting for me on ACE? Chuck Norris?) The only way of being able to make safer passes is from very high angle-off approaches. Seriously, those gunners have to be tamed a bit. If historical realism is what the mod embraces, then a HE111 pulling G's and turning, being able to head shot someone diving at the 7 o' clock high at 900km/h+ sounds strange, don't you agree? I wonder if any of the developers could shed some light into this. =)

Air.ini problem with sea hurricanes. Sea hurricane missions made in u1.1 wont transfer over to hsfx. i had to edit the air ini file to change the name and it worked great. SeaHurricane Ib vs SEAHURRICANE1.

Hi fellas, another Q for the talented folks here. If I want to add f.i. the texture mods of vehicles and buildings can I do this via JSGME or do I manually have to put it into the mods folder? It would be reat if I just could put it into the folder where jsgme has the other mods but I'm not sure that can work.
Any ideas on this?
regards HaJa

I've done that but i'm mostly interested why am i getting this error, what's causing it and why? Even a small problem is still a problem that can lead to BIG problems as we saw with the Chernobyl disaster

It's been known for a long time that bomber skill needs to be set lower for more realistic gunner performance.

The AI mod only addresses FM IIRC. The gunner AI is looked after by the stock game. As AK says dial the bombers down a little, veteran settings make them snipers

Hi mates,
a little problem. I get cyrillic text in all missions and campaigns. How can I fix that?
regards Just noticed that I have this problem, too. Almost all my careers are now in Cyrillic. I found the thread at AAA, but it is confusing as all hell. There are like 10 different downloads. What did I do to mess up my HSFX install? I installed over a clean 4.09m...???

Right, to get rid of the cyrillic language in IL2 after installation of HSFX go into JSGME and activate "Dgen offline campaigns (hsfx)" and all is corrected.

Hello guys,
Tday I took the FW's for a little spin and I was surprised that the infamous "bar" has returned. If memory serves me right, while browsing through the readme file included in the mod package I read that the FW190 bar had been removed. Is that still work to be done in the mod? Or actually I simply shouldn't be seeing the bar at all?
Any help will be appreciated. =)

Oh dammit, and they were so close to getting their year pin. Should have known giving them a Mustang as their sponsor was a bad idea. Sigh. One day at a time, FW's, one day at a time.
