I want to buy a headset with a boom mic for my 360 so I can play in the early hours and not disturb my family when they are sleeping. I have a surround sound set up that I use when the noise doesn't matter. The dog was barking as though there was a thunderstorm in the area recently, but it was just a few of us from SimHQ playing Borderlands. LOL! I want a headset with over the ear cups rather than the pads. I'm looking at a Skullcandy unit linked below. Any recommendations are welcome and appreciated.

360 gaming headset

I have a pair of Tritton AX pro headphones, my review of them is in this forum further down. I hear the Turtle Beach headphones are good too.

I have 3 friends that have these: http://www.turtlebeach.com/products/efx3a/home.aspx ($100).

My friends all rave about them and I've decided to get a pair for Christmas (along with a 60 Gig HD for my 360).

(edit) Actually, I'll be getting the newer and improved X-31 model.

I like that they have seperate volume controls for game sound and chat.

They also have a cheaper "wired" version of these for $60.

I've got the turtlebeach X3's, which I've enjoyed. It's IR and I do get a little background noise when there is no sound playing. The up-side is that these are practically wireless--the only wire is to your controller for in game comms. If you don't need that, the wire unplugs from the headset. Very very good for MP though, the mic gives you a little feedback through the speakers so you don't end up shouting at anyone. *NO* seperate volume for chat, but I haven't had to even use the one on the dashboard, these just happen to land in the right zone for me. Not surround sound, but when you have perfect stereo directly into your ears, it's almost as good. You get a very good sense of direction since the slightest movement moves the sound very distinctly.
I'd like them to be completely over the ear like the AXT's I used to have (they were like little isolation booths on your ears, no sound in or out) but these sit on/over your ear. Very comfortable, not tight, no ear pain over time. Those X-31's look like they'd completely go over the ear, I think I would still prefer that.
I'd like to have the new X-41's, which are 7.1 surround and RF instead of IR, but that price tag is really up there right now at $173.

I have been meaning to pickup one of those for a while now but always get side tracked with some other purchase.

I like the Turtle Beach X1 headset. I stopped at Fry's Electronics after work to buy a set, but they were sold out. The salesmen said that the store gets about 10 units per shipment and that they sell out fast. I'll try Best Buy tonight.

Thanks for your replies and recommendations.

I believe the new X-31's are RF as well and they're only $100 at Best Buy. They have several improvements over the older X-3 models.

I picked up the Turtle Beach X1 at Best Buy last night. It's a real nice headset for $60. I'm impressed.

Earforce X31 FTW,

though I like the designs on the skull candy line.

That's a big bonus. The IR related noise is my only issue with the X3, they otherwise sound better than some other headphones we use in the bedroom.
