Virgin Media 50Mb customers may be happy with the thought they have the swiftiest cable broadband connection available in the UK but, as always, it only takes a glance outside of the country to awaken the Green-Eyed Monster.

In just a few weeks time, Portugal-based internet service provider Zon Multimedia will launch a new commercial offering giving customers the chance to experience download speeds of 200Mb and 1Gb. Already tried and tested successfully, the equipment used by Zon is installed and ready to go.

Currently, the fastest broadband package available to Portuguese customers offers download speeds of up to 120Mb although this is supplied by rival operator Cabovisao. Zon Multimedia successfully launched 50Mb and 100Mb broadband packages at the start of the year and these have attracted a customer base of approximately 1.4 million.

Although the question may seem stupid, but I ask with all seriousness: What the eff do you do with a 100-200mb internet connection?
