Hi all,

I thought that the news of new version of SEOW supported mod pack would be kindly accepted at SimHQ smile - so far the only mod pack which is packed into native il2 format and 4.09m compatible

Installation Instructions for History Mod Version 4.0

1: Patch il2 Sturmovik 46 to Full 4.09m
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Detail : The History Mod version 4.0, requires an install of Il-2 Sturmovik 1946, plus Patches 4.08 and 4.09.
No other previous Mod Patches are needed. Version 4.0 includes all the Mods released from the beginning,
plus the new content for version 4.0.

Patch 4.09 - The IL-2 4.09 Patch is available at http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/ ... 9861059397

IMPORTANT : For user's with previous versions of The History Mod and any other Mod packages installed,
the Version 4.0 Installer will delete the previous versions Files and Mods folders and all files, as they are
no longer needed, because the content is now all contained in Compiled SFS files.

If you want to keep these folders, you should rename them, or move them before running the Installer.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2 : If you downloaded IL-2 (Digital version), instead of installing from the CD, get update Patch.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Detail : If you have the digital download version of il2 Sturmovik 1946, and have not installed from the CD,
you will need to to download and apply this patch :- http://allaircraftarcade.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3302
You should do this, before installing Version 4.0.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3. Download the Installer files.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Detail : The Version 4.0 Installer has been split into multiple 500 mb. files. This has been done to reduce the
possibilty of file corruption when downloading. Also if a downloaded file is found to be corrupt, it reduces the
size of the file that you must re-download.

The files to be downloaded are ;

HSFX_Version_4.exe - 500 Mb.
HSFX_Version_4.W02 - 500 Mb.
HSFX_Version_4.W03 - 500 Mb.
HSFX_Version_4.W04 - 321 Mb.
Part2_Ver_4.exe - 500 Mb.
Part2_Ver_4.W02 - 500 Mb.
Part2_Ver_4.W03- 247 Mb.

This is a very large release, but that is because it contains all Mod content from the very beginning.
We intend that this will be the last regular release for some time and we will try and avoid any further
releases in that time with the exception of correcting serious problems.

You will need to place all seven files in one folder to run the installer, as they are in actuality one large file.

NOTE : You do NOT need to execute the file Part2_Ver_4.exe. It will be executed automatically by the
installer itself. Because of the size, we had to split the installer into two parts with the part 1 executing
part 2 automatically.

-----------------------------------------------

Downloading

1. The downloads are via Torrents, much faster than via FTP. First you need to download uTorrent,
which is the software for downloading via Torrents.

First, the beginners guide ;

http://www.utorrent.com/documentation/beginners-guide/

Second to download uTorrent itself ;

http://www.utorrent.com/downloads

follow the instructions, easy and fast.

____________________________________________

2. Then access either of these torrents.

http://161.53.204.25/TEST/HSFX4.torrent

or

http://85.14.216.230/ScorchedEarth/MP4/HSFX4.torrent

The files will be mirrored on several other sites. As those sites go on-line I will update this readme with each of the mirror sites.

-----------------------------------------------

A small untity program, to calculate "hash sums" to verify the file downloaded, can be downloaded at
- http://www.slavasoft.com/hashcalc/index.htm

The Hash Sums, so that you can check for a corrupted file during downloading are ;

HSFX_Version_4.exe - CRC 32 - fd57402e , MD5 - b2f1110ab7307a564c83d86416c1e643
HSFX_Version_4.W02 - CRC 32 - cef128d7 , MD5 - b790994f76ebb1e9184d092dfc659300
HSFX_Version_4.W03 - CRC 32 - 7c7c5403 , MD5 - 2130d70b7e35a465a1ad3d4619f10053
HSFX_Version_4.W04 - CRC 32 - a48ac069 , MD5 - 83b9b8f3d079a8f7c5961ba317b85138
Part2_Ver_4.exe - CRC 32 - 2ef843d9 , MD5 - 7579efad42f0f80184288fb9c7af64b5
Part2_Ver_4.W02 - CRC 32 - 99ae4db9 , MD5 - 46e4118a2b2792ce802b627f70aacecb
Part2_Ver_4.W03 - CRC 32 - 2713e78a , MD5 - 91641cc5e84c0005f71bb66fda27259f

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

4. Ensure that when the installer asks for which folder to install Version 4.0 into, that you point it
at the folder for the Il2 Sturmovik 46 directory you want to update.

The installation itself takes up to about 5 minutes depending upon your PC.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

5: Look on your desktop or in the il2 Sturmovik 46 folder for JGSME.exe

In JGSME you will see several options on the left. The important one is to enable is the
HSFX HISTORY MOD

(apply it so that it moves from the Left window to the Right)

You are now ready to run IL-2 HSFX Version 4.0.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Intention

This is a ‘unified’ set of additions.

Providing all players use the same it is possible to play on servers with Checkruntime =2 enabled. So that we
have security and also know that others are playing with similar set up.

IF you download & add other components or in other ways alter the content of your own install you will quickly
no longer have an identical install to others or the co-op servers and you will loose the ability to join in our
missions there.

This remains a WIP and if you notice anything that it may be possible for us to improve or incorporate, please
post on the relevant forum.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Languages:-

(you can get some different GUI languages now from AAA without affecting compatibility if you wish, so if you
wish to see menus in another language look here :- http://allaircraftarcade.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=59 )

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sound: -

Recommended that you Switch your in game sound to 22Khz !!!

The game will run fast and sound good. There is no advantage whatsoever in choosing 44Khz although you
have the option (unlike usual Soundmod versions which CTD).

Samples are 22 khz. mono and the presets use the SFX 0.8 system. (So this is the SFX system using 9.3-file
structure & naming for maximum compatibility.)

In my view this is the most resource friendly and directional way that you can run the sound. Its faster and
clearer and more importantly uses less system resources, This sounds & runs faster than sound mod 9x
because that uses 44khz stereo samples which are nearly 4 times the size, il2 was never intended to play
stereo samples anyhow and it doesn’t do it very well.

A 22 khz sample is of slightly lower quality, however very few people are actually able to tell this difference
and what you are hearing in il2 anyhow is a complete ‘soundscape’ and not just a single sample.

(by SG2_Wasi)
Many samples and much of the sound engineering by Tiger

Readme’s detailed readme’s by the authors are contained in a new
HSFX V4 Tools & Read me's folder created during the installation.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Graphics: -

Recommended that you enable S3TC compression in your graphics card setup !!!

Launch il2 Setup, select Video tab, Choose Custom. Check ARB texture compression box and then select
S3TC compression.

The mods have increased the amount of textures and their sizes considerably and this really helps those
with older PC’s and graphics cards to avoid a CTD during mission loading or game launch.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

JGSME SWITCHER OPTIONS

HSFX v4 gives the user a few options depending upon preferences and Hardware:-.
We have used JGSME to do this as its simple.

To turn ON any of the below options :-
start JGSME
and move from LEFT to RIGHT :-

To turn OFF any of the below options :-
start JGSME
and move from RIGHT to LEFT :-
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Perfect Map Textures

Beautifully retextured versions of most of il2’s default maps by VpMedia, LAL_Rhone and Gilb57 (winter textures).

These look lovely. And if your PC can run il2 in ‘Perfect’ graphics mode, it is definitely worth using this option.

If you use this option and don’t play in ‘perfect’ you may possibly experience imperfections & little glitches on
some of the maps.

If you don’t use this option your game remains compatible with others who are running the textures but the older
maps will look ordinary.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

6do MOD for TIR users (Shr)

Allows 6do in il2.
Turn it off currently to join the SEOW co-op servers.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Advanced engine management:- (II/JG51-Lutz)

What this does:-

Engine warm up sequence
Ensure that you have turned magnetos on. Start engine and idle for several minutes until your engine gets up to
temperature (about 50o C). If you do not do this, you will see an 'Underheat' warning and will suffer engine
damage.

Advanced Engine Torque
Planes are effected a lot more realistically by engine Torque.

Negative G loads engine damage
Aircraft performing negative G manoeuvres over sustained periods will get an 'oil pressure' warning and then
will start to suffer engine damage. (although WWII aircraft often had pressurised fuel systems and injection,
the same was not true for the oil systems.)

Advanced engine management does not directly change Olegs FM's. It creates an overlay in effect that
implements the above features.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Realistic Bomb and Torpedo Characteristics (Maraz)

Torpedoes have to be dropped from realistic heights and at realistic speeds and have to run through the water for
a certain time to arm.

Bombs have to fly for a minimum of 2.5 seconds to arm. They also suffer from dispersion, the greater the height
the more pronounced this becomes.

See read me

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Carrier Takoff Mod 5.3.3 (fireball)
See read me

This alters the carrier line up sequence and allows a lot more aircraft to start on carrier decks.
It has been made compatible with Certificates AI 3.0.

Inclusion does give more options as again online server are divided over whether they use it or not.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MovingDogfightServer (Zuti)

I am pretty sure that we are going to see more and more of this online in the future.
Included so that you have the option to experiment and join these servers.

This includes Certificate AI 3.0 and also Carrier Takeoff mod. Currently it will override Cumulative Ship
damage logging but that’s something we could correct if we ever ported SEOW to use this format.

(see enclosed sample MDF missions in read me’s folder )

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Atmosphere mod V1 (Zloy Petrushko)
See Windconfig & Atmosphere readme.
Allows setting of wind strength, direction and turbulence in missions. These updated version also gives turbulence
beneath clouds and definable wind gusts.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Atmosphere mod V3.1 (Zloy Petrushko)
See Windconfig & Atmosphere readme.

V3 also simulates propwash when you get behind another aircraft.

Atmosphere Mod is optional because we have noticed a few problems currently:-

i) Either version may cause online ‘jitter’ but we need to test this, it may currently be that test servers
were not running it and it would be ok if they did?.

ii) V1 & V3 ai aircraft have a lot of problems with turbulence and keeping formation in specific
circumstances. Ai also cannot take account of wind whilst bombing but you can compensate in FMB.

iii) V3 propwash continues from aircraft after they have landed on carriers.

This is great and works well but its drawbacks decided us to leave it as optional currently. You have
the option and can switch it on or off. (the BOB server will be adopting V3 so switch it on if you wish
to fly there.)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Full Josse’s cloud Mod.

The Full Josse !

The default effects are also based On Josse’s effects but are a little lighter so increase performance and give
similar visibility to others online.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dgen offline campaigns:-

These have been fully updated by Potenz and enjoyr (integration of commercial and user made campaigns).
You have to have bought the user made material or you may hear a beep and it will not run.

Enable to play with HSFX.

There are a huge amount of skins available for the above but these are not included, you can get these from
Mission4Today website under enjoyr Dgen campaigns .

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Stock 4.09:-

In normal circumstances just disabling all of the options with JSGME (moving to the left side) should return
you to stock 4.09.

If all else fails try this Switcher. (NoCD exe included).

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New Content in Version 4.0

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Game performance increases

SFS Files

The IL-2 game engine was designed to store and retrieve it's resource files (graphics, sounds, java code) in a
compressed format in SFS files. The Mods, up until now, have stored their altered files, in uncompressed files,
many thousands of files ... and in a multitude of graphic formats, many that are non-native to IL-2 and have to be
translated by the engine before use. This has slowed game load times dramatically, and become worse in each
Mod release. User's with average PC's have seen load times recently of 4-8 minutes.

Version 4.0 now uses SFS files to store all Mod files in a compressed format, a huge saving in storage space, and
all graphics files has been converted to formats that are native (faster, smaller) to the IL-2 game engine. This change
dramatically reduces the game load times so that they are now close to standard Il-2. This also increases in-game
performance over all previous versions of the Mod.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Java Code corrections (242Sqn_Chap)

Many of the Mods included up to now have had literally hundreds of Java errors. This has been caused by coding
being altered without an assessment of the full impact of the code changes, in all scenarios. It's a tribute to the
design of the IL-2 game engine that it could cope with the hundreds and hundreds of errors being generated while
running previous versions of the Mod packages, and still run with most users completely unaware of all the errors
being generated. These errors did have a cost though, in game performance, as the game engine runs routines to
determine how to respond to the error and still continue executing the program.

All the Java routines, from A to Z, have been completely and thoroughly debugged in Version 4.0, including anything
that was appearing in the log 1st file. This work is a significant contribution, along with the SFS files mentioned above,
in the dramatic increase in performance in Version 4.0.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

GUI changes

Old style IL2 Sturmovik game menus. (Fly Zo)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SaveMissionParams_1_0 (Fireball)
See read me.

If you build and edit missions using any special mod commands, add the described line to your bldconfig.ini and
IL-2 will no longer delete your settings when you re-open the mission in FMB.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

128 Player co-op (FC)

This version includes the code that allows up to 128 players in an on-line coop mission. The actual number of
players that play without excessive lag and micro pauses, etc. depends on the performance of the server that is
hosting the coop.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hidden Co-op Slots (UF_Fernand)
See read me

The server stores two prefix’s and players that join the server with the correct prefix’s only see aircraft for their
own side in the selection screen. Also aircraft types are removed in the in-game S menu. This preserves the Fog
of War in a more realistic way.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bomb Bay Doors (Fireball)

All aircraft with Bombay doors have to open their Bombay doors. Map this new key in your control.

Adds new key combinations if you so wish

Also controls specific server side views .

See enclosed BombBayDoors_Plus_v2_README.txt and make SURE that you map a key to
Open/Close Bombay doors.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ai V3.0 (Certificate)

An improved version of the AI routines for the AI controlled aircraft.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Carrier Catapult Mod (Fireball)
See read me
Taxi forward to the catapult track on carriers with them. Put chocks in and you will snap to the catapult track.
Throttle up and deploy flaps etc, when you release chocks the catapult will go throw you forward.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Radar for Ground and ships (Maraz, Manu & 4Shades)
See SEOW read me

This allows placement and operation of working Radar networks within missions.

For ground networks you have to place Radar chain High and Radar Chain Low stationary objects or ships with
working Radar, ( all Carriers, Cruisers and Battleships + later US Destroyers) into the mission and then a
Radar Aircraft (parked) for the Server.

Data is then outputted to the Radar display pages of the SEOW mission planner.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ship damage Logging (Shades & Fc)

Outputs damage to ships to the Log file so that SEOW can parse cumulative ship damage between missions.
(note:- this currently only logs ship vs ship and ai vs ship but it is still a great feature, we hope to include player
damage at a later date.)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

improving and building.

I have used Anto & Cirx versions ‘mostly’ in the final incarnations as they have benefited from over a year of
development and are the culmination of all that has gone before.

Updated and Improved Aircraft:-

All AI aircraft made flyable have enhanced FM’s, usually this is just the addition of glide and stall characteristics
and revised weight and wing area data wherever appropriate…although in some cases it has had to be more
exhaustive. (eg most of the 4 engine Heavies) We have also worked up the FM’s of some of the new aircraft
when we have thought them to be wildly wrong. (eg the Me410 was way off research data.) This is a constant
WIP. Olegs player FM’s are sacrosanct of course. (The HSFX team)

Bomber gunner positions correctly named wherever possible in net code. Updated gunner cockpits in most of the
AI made flyable bomber with guns of correct nationality, cleaner positions and more appropriate turrets in many
cases. Fire extinguishers added to the US heavies. (Chap)

There has been a lot of incremental improvements to a whole variety of thing’s, this is difficult and takes a lot of
time and effort.

New Hurricane, Tempest & SeaFury Canopies Open (Maus & Veltro)

There is so much here that it is extremely difficult to list it all individually, if we find something that could be better,
we do it and it runs into many hundreds of items over the life of HSFX. Check out many of our bombers to see
this difference.

integration) using some skins by LAL_Rhone.

New Infantry types that move and fire.
These are not perfect but are optimised to work with the SEOW system.

Moving infantry are available under the new Infantry option in FMB in 1,2,3 & 4's.
Most types are also available as Stationary Artillery.

These will move and fire. At close range <100m's they will also use explosive weapons so they do have some
capability against Tanks and other hard armoured vehicles.

Overview

Think of Infantry as representational rather that ‘exact’, this is similar to almost any war game.

Infantry are tougher than they should be, it takes about 10 7.6mm shots to kill a group of 3. (but they cannot hide
or use cover in il2 as they would in reality).

The follow on from this is that each group of 3 in game is loosely representational of about 10 men:-
So:-
4-XXInfantry is equivalent to a platoon.
3-4 X 4-XXXInfantry, a Company
9-12 X 4-XXXInfantry, a Regiment
36 X 4-XXXInfantry, a Brigade
100+ X 4-XXXInfantry, a Division
(it differs from nation to nation but you should get the drift.)

Firepower is representational also, The capabilities of the AT sections representing not only AT weapons, but
other explosives like grenades, Satchel Charges and Mortars indigenous to almost all armies of this period in
some form.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mission naming:-

The underlying il2fb.exe is Russian although all of the menus have been changed to English (or whatever you chose
under language).

For this reason if you wish to play old missions you must rename the mission properties files:-

Eg
brilliantmission.mis
briliantmission.properties would be your mission.

Change the missions properties files to:- brilliantmission_ru.properties and you will then get the briefings back in
English.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Additional Downloads:-

Download FULL 4.09 skins.

It is really worthwhile getting this part of 4.09. It adds a lot to the game.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Features that have been Dropped from 4.0:-

FMB+

Full mission Builder Plus by (FC). Increased functionality for map builders.

If you are a mission builder or map designer this is highly recommended, however installed as standard it created
compatibility problems online and is quite bulky.

Anyone that knows enough to use this will also know enough to install it if they wish too is our logic !

QMB+

The 4.09 full release comes with a more developed version (also by FC) with more features , We ported this into HSFX as a better option.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Special thanks:-

Oleg & the 1C team.

Team Daidalos for 4.09

4Shades for giving us SEOW and more recently directly helping with development

FC & LesniHU for being prepared to answer our questions and help whenever we ran into
major problems

Team C6 (Vtrelut, rollnloop, C6_Claymore, UFF_fernand, UFF_Josse , Obelix) and Hades (Ultrapack) for their co-operation and
substantial contribution to development. We especially would like to wish Josse good health and future happyness and thank him for his
massive contribution to IL2 over the past year,

Play testers
Thank You to-
102nd Yu for a super effort (Devil & Cmirko should get a DSO for this one),
242Sqn and the old guard (for putting up with me),
22GCT for steady and unfailing support,
Diavoli Rossi for constantly surprising us,
SAS_Cirx for spotting and fixing things at an astonishing rate,
Brigstock, PA_Dore, Ikea, Brandle, Warg and Ranwars ….for keeping everything on track when I could no longer think straight !

Certainly many more people are involved than those I have listed. There is a lot of collaboration and cross co-operation
necessary to produce all of this work and it gets a little difficult as so many things are derivative of many others.

If you read this and feel that you should be included, then please communicate.

Disclaimer:-

All of the work contained is based upon the code or other work of Oleg Maddox and IC games. Nothing that
has been created would be of any use whatsoever without IL2.

It is all therefore ‘Freeware’ and we must be extremely grateful for the many people listed (and missed) that have
devoted thousands of hours of their time to make such freeware and make such a project possible.

We do not lay claim to anything at all contained within

Most importantly, we have been able to put this compilation of work into a format in which you now get the quality
and speed which you deserve and also does justice to IL2 itself.

So….thank you again Oleg for tolerating the mod scene which made all of this possible.
I hope you don’t take too much offence to what we did to your lovely game.

If possible, I'd like to hear comparisons (not flame wars) with the other major multi-mod release called Unified Installer. In any case, the list of modifications and improvements looks impressive.

Well one of the main benefits is the fact that the majority of the pack is in sfs format, rather than loose files in a folder in the IL2 root, which significantly reduces load times. Next is the fact that it is fully 409m complient. Another plus point is that all the java classes for nearly every plane have been cleaned up and many many bugs squashed.

This ModPack will move IL2 modding forward, especially in the way it is delivered and installed.

Also of note is the spirit of cooperation that brought this modpack together, lot's of contributors from AAA and smaller independent mod groups all giving their blessing and encouragement as well as their work.

Installation Instructions for History Mod Version 4.0

1: Patch il2 Sturmovik 46 to Full 4.09m
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Detail : The History Mod version 4.0, requires an install of Il-2 Sturmovik 1946, plus Patches 4.08 and 4.09.
No other previous Mod Patches are needed. Version 4.0 includes all the Mods released from the beginning,
plus the new content for version 4.0.

Patch 4.09 - The IL-2 4.09 Patch is available at http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/ ... 9861059397

IMPORTANT : For user's with previous versions of The History Mod and any other Mod packages installed,
the Version 4.0 Installer will delete the previous versions Files and Mods folders and all files, as they are
no longer needed, because the content is now all contained in Compiled SFS files.

If you want to keep these folders, you should rename them, or move them before running the Installer.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2 : If you downloaded IL-2 (Digital version), instead of installing from the CD, get update Patch.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Detail : If you have the digital download version of il2 Sturmovik 1946, and have not installed from the CD,
you will need to to download and apply this patch :- http://allaircraftarcade.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3302
You should do this, before installing Version 4.0.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3. Download the Installer files.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Detail : The Version 4.0 Installer has been split into multiple 500 mb. files. This has been done to reduce the
possibilty of file corruption when downloading. Also if a downloaded file is found to be corrupt, it reduces the
size of the file that you must re-download.

The files to be downloaded are ;

First, the beginners guide ;

http://www.utorrent.com/documentation/beginners-guide/

Second to download uTorrent itself ;

http://www.utorrent.com/downloads

follow the instructions, easy and fast.

____________________________________________

2. Then access either of these torrents.

http://161.53.204.25/TEST/HSFX4.torrent

or

http://85.14.216.230/ScorchedEarth/MP4/HSFX4.torrent

The files will be mirrored on several other sites. As those sites go on-line I will update this readme with each of the mirror sites.

-----------------------------------------------

A small untity program, to calculate "hash sums" to verify the file downloaded, can be downloaded at
- http://www.slavasoft.com/hashcalc/index.htm

The Hash Sums, so that you can check for a corrupted file during downloading are ;

HSFX_Version_4.exe - CRC 32 - fd57402e , MD5 - b2f1110ab7307a564c83d86416c1e643
HSFX_Version_4.W02 - CRC 32 - cef128d7 , MD5 - b790994f76ebb1e9184d092dfc659300
HSFX_Version_4.W03 - CRC 32 - 7c7c5403 , MD5 - 2130d70b7e35a465a1ad3d4619f10053
HSFX_Version_4.W04 - CRC 32 - a48ac069 , MD5 - 83b9b8f3d079a8f7c5961ba317b85138
Part2_Ver_4.exe - CRC 32 - 2ef843d9 , MD5 - 7579efad42f0f80184288fb9c7af64b5
Part2_Ver_4.W02 - CRC 32 - 99ae4db9 , MD5 - 46e4118a2b2792ce802b627f70aacecb
Part2_Ver_4.W03 - CRC 32 - 2713e78a , MD5 - 91641cc5e84c0005f71bb66fda27259f

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

4. Ensure that when the installer asks for which folder to install Version 4.0 into, that you point it
at the folder for the Il2 Sturmovik 46 directory you want to update.

The installation itself takes up to about 5 minutes depending upon your PC.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

5: Look on your desktop or in the il2 Sturmovik 46 folder for JGSME.exe

In JGSME you will see several options on the left. The important one is to enable is the
HSFX HISTORY MOD

(apply it so that it moves from the Left window to the Right)

You are now ready to run IL-2 HSFX Version 4.0.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Intention

This is a ‘unified’ set of additions.

Providing all players use the same it is possible to play on servers with Checkruntime =2 enabled. So that we
have security and also know that others are playing with similar set up.

IF you download & add other components or in other ways alter the content of your own install you will quickly
no longer have an identical install to others or the co-op servers and you will loose the ability to join in our
missions there.

This remains a WIP and if you notice anything that it may be possible for us to improve or incorporate, please
post on the relevant forum.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Languages:-

(you can get some different GUI languages now from AAA without affecting compatibility if you wish, so if you
wish to see menus in another language look here :- http://allaircraftarcade.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=59 )

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sound: -

Recommended that you Switch your in game sound to 22Khz !!!

The game will run fast and sound good. There is no advantage whatsoever in choosing 44Khz although you
have the option (unlike usual Soundmod versions which CTD).

Samples are 22 khz. mono and the presets use the SFX 0.8 system. (So this is the SFX system using 9.3-file
structure & naming for maximum compatibility.)

In my view this is the most resource friendly and directional way that you can run the sound. Its faster and
clearer and more importantly uses less system resources, This sounds & runs faster than sound mod 9x
because that uses 44khz stereo samples which are nearly 4 times the size, il2 was never intended to play
stereo samples anyhow and it doesn’t do it very well.

A 22 khz sample is of slightly lower quality, however very few people are actually able to tell this difference
and what you are hearing in il2 anyhow is a complete ‘soundscape’ and not just a single sample.

(by SG2_Wasi)
Many samples and much of the sound engineering by Tiger

Readme’s detailed readme’s by the authors are contained in a new
HSFX V4 Tools & Read me's folder created during the installation.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Graphics: -

Recommended that you enable S3TC compression in your graphics card setup !!!

Launch il2 Setup, select Video tab, Choose Custom. Check ARB texture compression box and then select
S3TC compression.

The mods have increased the amount of textures and their sizes considerably and this really helps those
with older PC’s and graphics cards to avoid a CTD during mission loading or game launch.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

JGSME SWITCHER OPTIONS

HSFX v4 gives the user a few options depending upon preferences and Hardware:-.
We have used JGSME to do this as its simple.

To turn ON any of the below options :-
start JGSME
and move from LEFT to RIGHT :-

To turn OFF any of the below options :-
start JGSME
and move from RIGHT to LEFT :-
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Perfect Map Textures

Beautifully retextured versions of most of il2’s default maps by VpMedia, LAL_Rhone and Gilb57 (winter textures).

These look lovely. And if your PC can run il2 in ‘Perfect’ graphics mode, it is definitely worth using this option.

If you use this option and don’t play in ‘perfect’ you may possibly experience imperfections & little glitches on
some of the maps.

If you don’t use this option your game remains compatible with others who are running the textures but the older
maps will look ordinary.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

6do MOD for TIR users (Shr)

Allows 6do in il2.
Turn it off currently to join the SEOW co-op servers.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Advanced engine management:- (II/JG51-Lutz)

What this does:-

Engine warm up sequence
Ensure that you have turned magnetos on. Start engine and idle for several minutes until your engine gets up to
temperature (about 50o C). If you do not do this, you will see an 'Underheat' warning and will suffer engine
damage.

Advanced Engine Torque
Planes are effected a lot more realistically by engine Torque.

Negative G loads engine damage
Aircraft performing negative G manoeuvres over sustained periods will get an 'oil pressure' warning and then
will start to suffer engine damage. (although WWII aircraft often had pressurised fuel systems and injection,
the same was not true for the oil systems.)

Advanced engine management does not directly change Olegs FM's. It creates an overlay in effect that
implements the above features.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Realistic Bomb and Torpedo Characteristics (Maraz)

Torpedoes have to be dropped from realistic heights and at realistic speeds and have to run through the water for
a certain time to arm.

Bombs have to fly for a minimum of 2.5 seconds to arm. They also suffer from dispersion, the greater the height
the more pronounced this becomes.

See read me

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Carrier Takoff Mod 5.3.3 (fireball)
See read me

This alters the carrier line up sequence and allows a lot more aircraft to start on carrier decks.
It has been made compatible with Certificates AI 3.0.

Inclusion does give more options as again online server are divided over whether they use it or not.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MovingDogfightServer (Zuti)

I am pretty sure that we are going to see more and more of this online in the future.
Included so that you have the option to experiment and join these servers.

This includes Certificate AI 3.0 and also Carrier Takeoff mod. Currently it will override Cumulative Ship
damage logging but that’s something we could correct if we ever ported SEOW to use this format.

(see enclosed sample MDF missions in read me’s folder )

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Atmosphere mod V1 (Zloy Petrushko)
See Windconfig & Atmosphere readme.
Allows setting of wind strength, direction and turbulence in missions. These updated version also gives turbulence
beneath clouds and definable wind gusts.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Atmosphere mod V3.1 (Zloy Petrushko)
See Windconfig & Atmosphere readme.

V3 also simulates propwash when you get behind another aircraft.

Atmosphere Mod is optional because we have noticed a few problems currently:-

i) Either version may cause online ‘jitter’ but we need to test this, it may currently be that test servers
were not running it and it would be ok if they did?.

ii) V1 & V3 ai aircraft have a lot of problems with turbulence and keeping formation in specific
circumstances. Ai also cannot take account of wind whilst bombing but you can compensate in FMB.

iii) V3 propwash continues from aircraft after they have landed on carriers.

This is great and works well but its drawbacks decided us to leave it as optional currently. You have
the option and can switch it on or off. (the BOB server will be adopting V3 so switch it on if you wish
to fly there.)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Full Josse’s cloud Mod.

The Full Josse !

The default effects are also based On Josse’s effects but are a little lighter so increase performance and give
similar visibility to others online.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dgen offline campaigns:-

These have been fully updated by Potenz and enjoyr (integration of commercial and user made campaigns).
You have to have bought the user made material or you may hear a beep and it will not run.

Enable to play with HSFX.

There are a huge amount of skins available for the above but these are not included, you can get these from
Mission4Today website under enjoyr Dgen campaigns .

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Stock 4.09:-

In normal circumstances just disabling all of the options with JSGME (moving to the left side) should return
you to stock 4.09.

If all else fails try this Switcher. (NoCD exe included).

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New Content in Version 4.0

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Game performance increases

SFS Files

The IL-2 game engine was designed to store and retrieve it's resource files (graphics, sounds, java code) in a
compressed format in SFS files. The Mods, up until now, have stored their altered files, in uncompressed files,
many thousands of files ... and in a multitude of graphic formats, many that are non-native to IL-2 and have to be
translated by the engine before use. This has slowed game load times dramatically, and become worse in each
Mod release. User's with average PC's have seen load times recently of 4-8 minutes.

Version 4.0 now uses SFS files to store all Mod files in a compressed format, a huge saving in storage space, and
all graphics files has been converted to formats that are native (faster, smaller) to the IL-2 game engine. This change
dramatically reduces the game load times so that they are now close to standard Il-2. This also increases in-game
performance over all previous versions of the Mod.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Java Code corrections (242Sqn_Chap)

Many of the Mods included up to now have had literally hundreds of Java errors. This has been caused by coding
being altered without an assessment of the full impact of the code changes, in all scenarios. It's a tribute to the
design of the IL-2 game engine that it could cope with the hundreds and hundreds of errors being generated while
running previous versions of the Mod packages, and still run with most users completely unaware of all the errors
being generated. These errors did have a cost though, in game performance, as the game engine runs routines to
determine how to respond to the error and still continue executing the program.

All the Java routines, from A to Z, have been completely and thoroughly debugged in Version 4.0, including anything
that was appearing in the log 1st file. This work is a significant contribution, along with the SFS files mentioned above,
in the dramatic increase in performance in Version 4.0.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

GUI changes

Old style IL2 Sturmovik game menus. (Fly Zo)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SaveMissionParams_1_0 (Fireball)
See read me.

If you build and edit missions using any special mod commands, add the described line to your bldconfig.ini and
IL-2 will no longer delete your settings when you re-open the mission in FMB.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

128 Player co-op (FC)

This version includes the code that allows up to 128 players in an on-line coop mission. The actual number of
players that play without excessive lag and micro pauses, etc. depends on the performance of the server that is

Hidden Co-op Slots (UF_Fernand)
See read me

The server stores two prefix’s and players that join the server with the correct prefix’s only see aircraft for their
own side in the selection screen. Also aircraft types are removed in the in-game S menu. This preserves the Fog
of War in a more realistic way.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bomb Bay Doors (Fireball)

All aircraft with Bombay doors have to open their Bombay doors. Map this new key in your control.

Adds new key combinations if you so wish

Also controls specific server side views .

See enclosed BombBayDoors_Plus_v2_README.txt and make SURE that you map a key to
Open/Close Bombay doors.

(Chap)

There has been a lot of incremental improvements to a whole variety of thing’s, this is difficult and takes a lot of
time and effort.

this difference.

Infantry

FC (Idea & Initial classes and 3d) Delvper (TOW object conversions) and Chap (Development and il2/SEOW
integration) using some skins by LAL_Rhone.

I hope you don’t take too much offence to what we did to your lovely game.

this is definitively not the place for this discussion imho, but, are you actually irked that your very fine work (which was freely available on AAA and some other mod sites) is included in the mod pack of this quality ?

No, of course I don't mind. But that isn't the point I'm concerned about.

You see, I released my work at AAA and nowhere else. Yet, people do assume that they are automatically granted the right to rerelease it as part of their own mod packs or even worse use it as a base for their own work without asking permission or even giving credit at all.

In 99% of all cases I would have happily given permission, its just the conduct and in my opinion lack of manners that strikes me as being the root for a lot of grief and ill-feeling among members of the community(s).

Nice Job. Very neat and quick to start to boot, but is there a way to get the 6DoF mod to work? I see it in the list in JGME but even when active it doesn't work.
Still, good work.

[edit] Never mind I got it working now[/end edit]
[2nd edit] Only thing I can find wrong is that you cannot add maps to the QMB as you are unable to edit the all.ini file usually found in the Mods\mapmods folder. is there another way to do this? I really enjoy flying quick missions over cannons BoB map and miss it. [2nd edit]
[3rd edit] Never mind I found the maps in the Files\Maps folder DOH!!!! [3rd edit]
[4th edit]OK I found the maps but can't find a way to get them to show in the QMB. Is there a way to do this? i have trid the Custom##= but it doesn't work. Any Ideas? [4th edit]

Wow! is this loaded.

Speaking about loaded.. I long does this take to load IL2 after you install it.

The AAA pack takes about 4+ minutes on my computer and I've got a good system.

E6600 quad/4gig low latency ram/8000 GTX 512MB VC/750Watt- this dog will hunt.

I would like to read more about the History part. I have a penchant for historical replay of missions and campaigns. I'm especially interested for pairings of aircraft and weapons that were used in their respective time frames.

Thanks for all the hard work.

UI 1.2 takes ~ 6 Minutes on my computer to load.

HSFX v4 takes 20 seconds.

I like this mod as far as I have tested it yet.
Not only is is fast and stable.
The mod files are packed in SFS files again and the Java code has been rewritten witout errors.
It's great.

I searched AAA Forums for info about the advanced engine management.
I didn't find useful information there.

Can anyone here provide me with information about
the engine warm up sequence (how dies it work on different planes. I found out it takes different times to warm up the engine on different planes an there's a difference between winer and summer map in the times.

Thank's in advance!

Very nice! Loading times and ease of use the best so far.
But.... where can I ask questions about this Mod Pack?

I see serious java errors when I replay old tracks. Is this to be expected/normal?

Cheers!

just a quick question: this one means we can dump the /mods and /files structure and go just with this one here?

and for any new mods that come out after this one we just "add" the above mentioned struture and the new mods will be available?

if so, this sounds just too good smile

I believe that your work was properly credited in the readme, besides, creators of this pack are in excellent working relations with the rest of mod community - AAA, C6 and Ultrapack creators all helped with the creation of this mod pack....

Sometimes its a real problem to contact various mod creators, it can be a full time job smile - since this pack is primarily the work of 2 people, and as long as the credit is given at appropriate place, I don't believe that they are to be blamed considering the free nature of mods and their initial creation.

I will ask if this is possible, but please bear in mind, this mod pack is created to be CRT=2 compatible as first order of business, customization of each install was never high on the list of its functionalities....

original creator of this mod is a native french speaker - AFAIK there never was an english readme...., just watch your engine temperature until it hits 50+ celsius and you should be fine (basic info is in the readme)

Well I just added a mod I created for myself which stops the annoying button "CLICK". I put it in the MODS folder and it work perfectly. might nees some more investigating but it looks like we can just drop them in there and away to go.

so this means, we basically "delete" the content of current MODS folder together with the /Files folder and should be good to go?

as I was on my way to upgrade to UI1.2 over my existing UI1.1.1. , this might spare me some work and looks just too good to miss, the more so as it is compatible with the 4.09 MOD;

yes, some of the mods included changed internal code of game in various ways, recording and playing tracks works fine if you do it on HSFX v4 version of game though

you can use JSGME mod structure for adding new mods - it will probably be very hard to troubleshoot the problems if you are not very proficient mod user (although you can always unpack sfs files and troubleshoot that way)

be extra careful with this - read the installation instructions carefully - HSFXv4 is best installed over clean 4.09m

ok, well, seems like I will have to jump the gun and install the old girl fresh again and drop missions, skins and other assorted stuff into it from new again;
I just wanted to make sure that any future mods that are released can be installed into the new install then;
looks like I am in for an interesting time when installing this wink

Hello SD!

so just a few quick questions smile
this means you installed this one over 4.09m;
what is your filestructure like now?
do you still have that /files and /mods directory?

I just do not want to do the whole install dance once more, its a little bit too much for me, adding all skins, missions, campaigns, MAT Manager and other stuff once more;
would be easier to just install this one Mod and then create the necessary dirs for additional mods;

thanks in advance

This is an excellent addition, it is much more functional, load times reduced, better performance, plus huge number of mods in a smaller format, less bloated install.

The README was posted two times here on this board.

And what did it say?

Quote:
Detail : If you have the digital download version of il2 Sturmovik 1946, and have not installed from the CD,
you will need to to download and apply this patch :- http://allaircraftarcade.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3302
You should do this, before installing Version 4.0.

I have a vanila install of IL2-1946 with no patches installed I use this as a template and just copy the files from this folder into another I can then update as I wish.
For instance I copied aal the files into a folder called HSFX IL2. I then patched this up with the 4.08 then the 4.09 patches. I then installed the HSFX file into this folder too. And thats all there is too it. there is a MODS folder in the HSFX install that was created by the installer, I just added some modes to it as I was curious to see if they would work. I then copied my paintschemes, campaigns, DGEN, and User folders from one of my other installs and I was good to go.
Let me know if you need any help. I have attached a screenshot of the file structure of my HFSX folders

Thank you very very much SD!

I just got my own version of the UI1.2 up and running, but I have to admit that integrating some mods is a real pain with all that messing around in various ini files;
oh and I should have done that vanilla install thingie a looong time ago myself;
seems like now is the time to do so smile

have you tried to install some new aircraft as well?
I am curious how this is done with that mod, as there are several ini files and dat files that need modification normally;
if that is just as easy, I will jump the wagon of this mod too - the loading times for the UI are just too long for my taste smile

in final version of HSFX v4 it seems that the mod_slot_coop mod is included in java but there is no corresponding folder in root of il2 install - meaning that the people who installed HSFX v4 over clean 4.09m will be able to pick only red airplanes in coop missions.

solution is extremely simple:

in your il2 installation folder create a folder named
mod_slot_coop

inside that folder create a txt file named ARMY_USER.txt which will contain only 3 lines:
B
R
1

Thanks for the pointer. But I do believe that there is no need to make a mountain out of a molehill. I am properly credited in the ReadMe and that is the important bit.

My attitude so, is based on experience that there is quite a bit of "play fast and loose" with intellectual property within the "digital art" sector, which is the reason why I like to keep track of where my work is published and how.

To be honest mate I think nearly if not every one of the mod aircraft are included in this so there is no need to add any aircraft, although I could be wrong.

Hmmmm... well, yeah, as of today it has most if not all, but what about next week or next month when someone else releases a new flyable? Very glad to hear that I'd be able to add mods, but I'm concerned about 'future proofing' for new planes, SD. BTW, does HSFX also include the new early P-38 and P-51 variants released in AAA's 1.2 UI?

Cheers!

Dont take my work for it, but the real advantage of this is for improving load times and enforcing crt=2 standards.

New mods and aircraft can be added to the game, and later compressed to fit into the SFS format.
You might not have the newest mods but its sounds simple to add them to future releases.
That isn't to say that you couldn't use the newest mods using the wrapper/MODS formula.

It will really depend on the user, and i think ideally for online players this is a much needed development.

I had a nifty folder set aside with only 20 of the mods in the entire UI pack just so i could have a decent load time for online use. With more servers using CRT=2 and mods, it just seems like the next step in the progression of this game. My load times are not that horrible, but long enough to be annoying if you have an error or can't connect. I also have many mods that need to be turned off so i can meet the crt=2 requirement.

The way i see it, this would take care of both of the problems i'm having attempting to use mods and crt=2.

Thanks to all modders, and the developers of this pack. I hope it does what it is expected to do, which is make this game easier to play and have fun with online.

Charlie made the decision to leave a few aircraft out; principally those that 'aren't quite right'. The PZL.24, for example, has too many issues to make it usable online in any serious way.

The aim of this mod pack, as in earlier versions, was initially for use in our SEOW campaigns, but all the best mods are worth having for both on- and offline. Encrypting the mods back into .sfs files has been a masterstroke IMO; HSFX 4.0 loads as cleanly and swiftly as a vanilla Il-2.

Technically it sounded great but after a few hours of fiddling around,
practically AAA UI is better than HSFX for me.
All in all, AAA UI team seems to know what players like me want, while HSFX not.
I see much faster loading time and maybe it is error free but many crucial mods are missing and mod enabler is not more intuitive.
I hope they provide their good programming skill to AAA UI team.
Let AAA UI team supervise and decide what to include or not and HSFX team refine them.
Just my 2 cents.

HSFX still is such a beautiflu work, it deserves standing ovation for their passion and skill.

The Mod sounds good to me, before dl the whole pack i want to know if the advanced engine management is optional to activate or not - i don´t want ot warm up the engine every time for minutes, when doing a "quick fight".

Here are the optional mods. Note that HSFX 4.0 is itself optional, and that you can go back to unmodded 4.09 any time you want.

inside that folder create a txt file named ARMY_USER.txt which will contain only 3 lines:
B
R

First off, this package looks pretty darn good. Thanks!!

Next: Is there a central web site/forum for discussion this mod package? I would like to be able to keep up with future fixes for, and/or new releases of, this package. As an example: the fix above was quickly lost in the shuffle of posts here.

Will torrents be the only way to get this package?

Yes the torrents will be the only way at the moment at least. The torrents have turned out to be much faster than our previous method of downloading via FTP Servers. It's especially important with version 4.0 because of it's size. The Torrents have been a huge improvement, not only speed but we have had no reports of file corruption which was a serious problem with the FTP servers.

It was alright last night when I had a fly around. Has anything changed since then? I have only HSFX and the Hakenkreuz enabler mods going.

re Timeout on co-op server

Check the status screen , sometimes its running 4.9m

The server runs ONLY standard HSFX (you can have perfect textures or Hakenkruz but nothing else on.)
...make sure that you are not using 6do, advanced bombs etc etc..

Yes, it is remarkably quick...

I'm still having fun just with the quick mission builder...

flying a P-38 the other day and could hear the airframe "creaking" while pulling g's...

the enhanced textures...

sweet!

Maybe a dumb question but then maybe I'm dumb....

I have AAA 1.2 installed and working ok on CRT=2 servers (Warbirds of Prey etc).
Some aspects of the HSFX mods are very attractive, especially the load time.

Are the HSFX Mods something completely different to AAA 1.2 or just a different (better/faster?) way of achieving the same ends?

Key question: will the HSFX mods run ok on the aforementioned AAA 1.2 CRT=2 servers?

Hi cmirko, This is a big step forward!

Just 2 probably simple questions:

Is there any way to modify any of these files or substitute favorite mods by the user, or are they cast in sfs stone to be used as is?

I have a lot of custom paintjobs, sounds, FX, etc that I have grown fond of is why I ask.

And second, I have D2D version which came patched to 4.08m. Do I apply HZ's patch before 4.09m or after?

Best regards, Box-weasel AKA Fly!

Not a dumb question at all, it's one being asked a lot at the moment. Actually the two are very close. The Problem is they have to be identical. We were using HSFX 4.0 pre-release on AAA 1.1 for about 6 weeks, but with AAA 1.2 they are out of sync again I'm afraid. So unfortunately you would have to have two versions of IL-2 for this, one with AAA 1.2 and another for HSFX Version 4.0. smile

Afraid I can only answer the first question. You can add any Mods you want to HSFX 4.0. You add them exactly the way you added Mods before. It simply overwrites the default HSFX function. smile

The only thing you cannot add, as far as I can tell, is new planes. These would require an updated buttons file. However, if you're willing to wait, I expect a patch will be forthcoming to add more of the new planes that are in UI 1.2.

Thanks 'Prof'

Whether I like it or not AAA seem to have been adopted by the servers we like to fly on in Hyperlobby, i.e. 'full' or 'nearly full' switch, preferably with some configuration control which is why I like CRT=2. Where would we find HSFX 4.0 servers of a similar standard? We are server whores and like to move around a few favourite servers smile

Just one more thing. I read in this Topic that HSFX 4.0 should be installed over a clean 4.09m but I also read that HSFX 4.0 can be installed over AAA 1.2 and it would remove AAA Mods and Files folders and leave the HSFX 4.0 install 'clean' and also switchable to vanilla 4.09m. The reason I ask is IL2-1946 CD doesn't give me the Install option (to create a second installation for HSFX) when it already exists on my PC, even if I rename the existing game folder. So I am faced with simply copying my existing 4.09m/AAA1.2 installation and installing HSFX 4.0 over that. I am not clear if this would work. Any advice?

@klem
easiest way to install HSFX v4 is over clean 4.09m, so if you have two installs 4.08m/409b1m/409m and AAA UI 1.2, I suggest that you copy your clean install of 408m/409b1m/409m to another folder, install 4.09m official patch over it and then install HSFX v4 into that folder.

Alternative way if you have only one install of AAA UI 1.2 is to copy that folder to another location, use switcher to apply 4.08m, install 4.09m and then install HSFX v4 on top (HSFX installer will delete files and mods folder automatically)

@Murph
patch will be forthcoming, creators of HSFX decided that AAA should have exclusive on this new planes (not to steal their thunder :)), I believe that all files are already included in SFS archives but not yet enabled in java....

cheers

Hi Kadin, it seems that we have a problem with CRT=2 on our server, there is some kiund of memory leak in mod package at the moment so the server works fine after restart and for some time after...., but after a few hours it starts giving timeout 1 errors with valid installs. we are investigating this, the fix will come out with first HSFX v4 patch in some time....

for now, I'll try and restart server regularly so you can try and join next few hours if you see this..., server will always run only HSFX mod for hosting, and all info about availability can be seen on already provided link...

cheers

...and also I have just discovered by playing around with my server that if the command line: (builder.PlMisMods) exists in the bldconf.ini of one machine it makes CRT=2 compliance impossible!!

I reproduced this in your machine too, just a few minutes ago. When my client has the line I get timed out. Otherwise, without the line, I was able to connect and issue commands and select missions. smile

A very thoughtfull addition, that mod, by the way. Secretly I wish for another command to be protected by the FMB mission saving: briefSound smile

Good luck with the memory leak.
Thanks for responding.

Is Track IR 6DOF working for everybody? I tried last night and had no luck but will try again tonight. I remembered to toggle the reticle view. Track IR worked, just not in 6DOF.

OK, letterboy1 here's what you need to do; Go back into JSGME and move EVERYTHING over to the left column. Then move HSFX over to the right FIRST, the the 6Dof mod, ignoring the warning about overwriting files.

In response to the mod_slot_coop modification I found I had this problem but even after doing the folder and text document mod I still am only seeing red aircraft when I run a mission as host.Any further ideas on how to solve this issue please?

The new folder and file trick worked for me to cure the 'red planes only' in co-op missions I host.

Are you sure you placed the new 'mod_slot_coop' folder into the game root folder and not into a mod folder?

The new 'mod_slot_coop' folder is in the game root folder and not in the mod folder.
ie:C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946.
I have the Red sides Aircraft with the brief but still no Blue Aircraft when I run the coop.

just to let you know I installed HSFX 4.0 over a copy of AAA 1.2 with 4.09m files poked into the game folder.

It worked just fine. The sounds are supreme and the load time excellent. First impressions are that its an improvememnt on AAA although I don't want to start a war. btw it didn't delete the Files and Mods folders so I expect it needs the little that is left in there. And I've still to delete the AAA switcher folders too.

All I have to do now is find some HSFX servers in Hyperlobby. They seem to be like hen's teeth.
EDIT: oops just found your 102nd, brain cells a bit slow. Any more you know of?

I wish Daedalus, AAA and HSFX would get together to form a consolidated mods team. I hate to say it but I expect envy and ego would get in the way but they could set themselves up as a unifying body so we don't all go chasing after different versions. 4.09b1 and mods nearly killed Warclouds WF. And we can't fly HSFX in Warbirds of Prey because they have tied themselves to AAA 1.2.

Do you know if HSFX's next move will make their mods flyable on AAA1.2 servers?

Trying not to offend/upset/start a war is like walking barefoot over broken glass sometimes klem.

Ultrapack are working on a server version which should be compatible with HSFX. We made HSFX for Co-op and SEOW and left Ultra and the very talented Zuti (MDF) to concentrate on this aspect. Their new client and server release will be based on HSFX SFS architecture also (as will C6 and probably AAA in the longer term judging by recent AAA posts, we co-operated with all of them whilst testing this and they have our full permission.)

The aircraft in UI 1.2 are actually already included, we just didn't turn them on 'yet', we thought it too close to AAA's release and didn't want to stress anyone out too much.

HSFX deleted the Files and Mods folders but it does than add its own which maybe what you are seeing.

We cannot make HSFX compatible with UI1.2 because its based on 4.09bm...I preferred the 4.09 content and thought it better to be progressive.

Thanks for the quick reply Charlie Chap. As you can imagine I have no idea who is who in the world of mods teams so I just say what I say as diplomatically as possible.

It is very encouraging though that you guys are all talking to eachother. If you are all to remain separate entities but you make it so that we can play a mods server using AAA or HSFX that would be great. Its also good to know AAA are thinking of moving to a SFS structure. (I'm afraid I don't know what C6 is.) I was talking to someone last night who explained the SEOW focus of HSFX. The problem I have is one or two of our guys are mod-shy and many of the rest see yet another mods package (HSFX) as being just too much to have to deal with. Personally I have both AAA and HSFX in separate game folders with a 'Swapper' (as opposed to a 'switcher') which renames the main game folders to give me whichever mods pack I want to use on the day. I just have to remember to run it before I play because it tells me which set is enabled and 'do I want to swap?' Running the AAA 'switcher' with HSFX enabled could be disastrous and vice-versa!

I understand that AAA have brought out patch 1.2a which is 4.09m compatible. Whether that means their switcher now simply gives you 4.09m options instead of 4.08m and that their mods are still 4.09b1 based I don't know. I read somewhere they are working on making the mods 4.09m based.

Question: I have a sound bug, the same as with AAA (which led me to re-install stock sounds). When I have been in the cockpit for about ten minutes I get full power engine noise regardless of throttle setting. Also when I next go to the cockpit it is there from the start even before I start the engine. I can stop it by disabling sound extensions but that ruins those superb HSFX sounds. Is this the place to post such a bug or should I post it elsewhere?

My Rig:
ASUS A8N32SLi using on-board Sound and Ethernet
AMD 64x2 3800+ o/c to 2.5GHz
2Gb Corsair low latency 2-2-2-5 RAM
2 x XFX 7800GT in SLi split frame mode

A good move IMO but I believe the UI will be 4.09 compatible very soon.. Eventually there wull just be 4.09 & 4.09m.. which is how it should be.

Run IL2Setup and try some other sound settings, you may find that your sound card cannot process EAX2 that well if it is an onboard card (so try EAX1 only). Worth a try anyhow.

No, that patch just fixes a problem with the skin of one of the new B-25s. 1.2.5 will be 4.09m compatible, but it is not out.

Downloaded this mod for the torrent activated in MOD enabler but sticking at 95% on load up screen (IL2 1946 Load up screen) Do I need a fresh install of 1946 and 4.08 and the new 4.09 and nothing else to make this mod work??

Peter for best results first patch Il2 46 upto Full 4.09m.

Then click on the HSFX installer and let it install. Enable with JSGME and you should be good to go. If you still get this problem, check the CRC of the seven parts that you downloaded and make sure that none of them have corrupted (and will give a different value in that case.)

have you turned on ST3C compression ?

there is no way to turn off these mods without modding HSFX itself...

thanks for your answer, yes S3TC is on, I think the clouds are hiting fps a lot.. ! When i pull them off, i gain 25 fps, but online we cant do it.. !

7600GT, AMD4000+, 2 Go RAM

So people like me, with a light computer, cant use this modpack ? It becomes hard for us !

With AAA modpack or ultrapack, or C6 pack, it works fine when i disable all graphical mod.. about 50 fps.. now im about 25-30 fps....

I really dont understand why all these mods are inside and are not switchable ... !

When the moders and modpackers will give us an universal modpack ? For all of us,.. At least people just want to play together, not alone...! Leave well alone ?

Please, give us a version without secondary mods off.. !

I created & tested this on a single core AMD 3700. I have a ATIX1900... (so a slightly better Graphics card but a weaker processor).

Its an old PC and I get 30- Refresh rate FPS constantly which is very acceptable for me online in some very large missions. This is a very Old computer as is yours.
(so I created it on hardware that is 5+ years old...and it works fine for me and all of the beta testers, many of whom have much weaker PC's. )

You could not even consider running Rise of Flight or newer sims on your PC.

We made this for ourselves and the groups that we play with. That its become public was never really an intention.

When the moders and modpackers will give us an universal modpack ? For all of us

We all do this in our freetime for nothing. Nobody is forcing anybody to use anything....

This may help with the clouds :-

Hello Mr Charlie Chap, how are doing?

I reckon you must be one of the mod developers, am I right? Well, first of all I'd like to thank you for all the hard work you guys poured into it. Very nice mod indeed.

I however have stumbled upon a small piece of misfortune and I've posted in the mod support thread. As I probably might have sounded a little too enthusiastic in proving my point you sir could have chosen to ignore it. If that was so, then I apologize for the harsh post. I think I was a tad too energetic in the way I said it.

I'll repost my question here and if you could be so kind to also point me in the direction of a proper Mod Discussion forum I'd be leaping in joy. (I don't know if we can hijack the IL2 section here at SimHQ to discuss a mod and and up pushing down other IL2-related posts),
What I had previously asked was if the AI had been tempered with in the mod. I had experimented engaging bombers with jets at very high speed passes (I just started with the HE111) in veteran settings and I found myself getting injuried and killed waaaay too often; well, much more frequently than with vanilla IL2 or AAA-modded IL2.

The AI managed to hit me even while making passes at 90º Angle off which in the vanilla IL2 only the B17 gunners could manage.

So has the AI been toned up and made more aggressive in this mod? When I read that changes to the AI were underway I though they would be made to make more mistakes and in case of bomber gunners made less accurate.

Again I don't mean to sound unthankful, it's just that during this simple experimentation the AI seemed much more different than the one we used to have.

Thanks for your time and patience. =)

Thanks for youre answer,

I was polite.. i said thanks and please. so read me please

I made three modpacks (from differents X "officials" modpacks, AAA, C6, SAS) since the beginings story mod.. i made them for the GEFUV team squadron (about 50 pilots), i lead one of these squadrons, and making online campaigns. If you want the last one i made during june 09, ask me by pm.. i will give you the link.

Many many hours... ! to content everyone, light or strong computer configuration, pilots who likes dogs need to be compatible with all modpacks, Gilb57 would confirm you how it was hard for us.. he is in the gefuv too

So if i say they made real good joob, you can believe me; that's great improvement for all community, thx, thx, thx.... !

We think the best way is a basic modpack, without secondary mods, cosmetics ones.. :! after that let everyone add what cockpit, arms skins, clouds skins, explosions effects.. it depends on the computer and doesnt change the finality , enjoyed playing in the same conditions, same weapons and planes

but when i discover your pack includes, with no other issues, graphicals mods, non essential mods.. i feel like an eternal restart, to the same question.. how many modpack for one solution content everyone ?

30 fps offline is too low to play online coop with the 128 players mods, moving units.. ! We need at least 40-50 fps ofline to be playable online

For players who get same problems than me try this :

i gain 15 Fps, with ocl fps booster, OLC Water V2 (See AAA), put mods inside the MODS folder

In the con ini landgeom 3 for 2,

When i put out the clouds i gain about 20 fps.. !

So i loose high distance visibilty and clouds to play a plane game ! I m sad.. .!

I assume you have tried changing settings down like Landscape Detail from Perfect to Excellent and Clouds from Detailed to High? Perhaps reduce AA and AF settings in the Nvidia Control Panel?

I posted my system spec a little earlier and it's not much above yours apart from 2 x 7800GT in SLi mode. I get 30-50 fps on line in the air including low level and sometimes down to 20fps taxying with many ground objects. I have Perfect and Detailed Clouds, AAx4 and AFx8 so with lower settings you may
see an improvement.

I don't want to mess around with anybody. But I think Cbal has a point there. (Actually I have to be on his side, since he is my virtual boss :-)

I have a more powerful pc, but my screen is to big. I've got a 24" monitor. And I'm happy with my graphic settings on the max, nothing and nobody will make me change that. ....I should never have bought a biger screen....

This is just a suggestion, you might concider lookin into a version for less graphic goodies. I understand you did it for yourself and didn't have any problems. But.... if I would send you some swiss chocolate, could this change your mind? Or lets call it a online version. These are just my thoughts.

Hello Henrique, yes Charlie Chap [242Sqn_Chap] is indeed one of the developers, in fact without his enthusiasm and dedication it would never have happened.
In case he doesn't get back on here for a while, as far as I know the AI gunners have not been tampered with or altered in any way. One of the HSFX basic tenets is no alteration to Oleg's FMs AT ALL. Another is that we are dedicated to recreating HISTORICAL models and scenarios, so nothing would have been added due to bias or personal agendas.

If the AI-gunners have changed (and I haven't tested it) then perhaps it is one of the new 'mod' He-111s? It is impossible for us to test EVERY aspect of each mod, and we have to take the modder's work to be good. As it is, there are aircraft with incomplete FMs, DMs or cockpits, (plus most of the 'frankenplanes), that haven't been included in HSFX because they are not up to the standard we strive for. When they are they will be added.
Having said that, if the Heinkel gunners' accuracy is wildly off in the mod planes then it will be looked at and, hopefully, sorted out in the future.

It's really pleasing that everyone likes what Charlie and the guys have done, but we are now a victim of our own success. HSFX 4.0 was built so that our friends from around the world can participate in the online SEOW campaigns on an equal footing. Some of them have low-end computers, some slow or poor internet connection. By repackaging the mods into .sfs files it is now very do-able to have large numbers online together. There's a huge multi-sector campaign coming up for the winter, which we are all looking forward to.
If HSFX is good for offline (and it is!) and other online applications then that's a real bonus, but it's not what it was primarily designed for. So please bear this in mind - we designed it for our needs - and get what you can from it as it's a great package.

cheers 242Sqn_Cat

I'm having a ton of fun with this, but one thing that really stands out is the almost complete lack of impact effects for .30 and .50 cal gun fire. Even at night, they are basically invisible. 20mm and up also seems to be lacking a bit in "flash." Seems more like a lingering fireball than a quick, violent explosion (which would be more flash and dust/debris than fire). Is it possible to use one of the effects packages with HSFX, like HG&P and such?

I have a similar doubt about the sound of the Historical Mod. The sound for cannon fire is almost inaudible both inside and outside the cockpit.

I wonder if I am having sound problems or if they are indeed lower than other mods and the vanilla IL2.

I'd be very glad if someone could give a little help on the matter. =)

Perceptive Akdavis !

We found that the hitflash effects really hammer FR's when ground attacking (and always did in the stock game). It was a while ago (and a much earlier version) but we removed /dropped to stock most of them as result. You can put effects over the top in your Mods folder in the normal way if you want to..HSFX is open to modding and uses the same exe/wrapper etc (but some of the files are just in different places)

henrique_rp SAS Cirx did a resent spund remix thats pretty good and sorted out a few things and we will include in a little update. (although you can get it from his site but its a bit more hassle to install).

You can drop mods over the top and customise to your hearts content. Try using 22khz ...very little loss of quality and for some people it sounds better...also..if you have an onboard sound card, run IL2Setup and use EAX1 only and see if it helps (some onboard sound cards are not very good, some are..it depends..).

Thanks for the tip on the remix Charlie Chap. I checked out the forum at SAS, but didn't find a link to this little sound modification you've mentioned. I tried several different sound configurations and in none of them I noticed any difference in quality and/or performance.

The sound for the machine guns is just fine. The problem of the sound volume being too low only appears with cannon fire.

Is there a site we can follow the development of the HSFX mod?

Thanks! Didn't realize we could use the "Mods" folder.

One thing to try is adjusting down the "master" and "objects" volumes in the Il-2 control panel. For some reason engine sounds are much more effected by changes here than other sounds. You have to have your speakers turned up higher than with vanilla, but seems to help with balance a bit.

Looks like a very interesting pack. Thanks for the efforts and hard work.

Just a few questions however : You mention that all HSFX mods are packed in SFS files, but can the Mods folder still be used in the same way it is used in the UI, i.e whatever is in the Mods folder gets priority over similar files stores in the SFS ? I have made personnal modifications to many mods, especially maps, and have organised them in a way that suits my needs perfectly, and I'd hate to have to do it all over again.

Are there plans for a version of the pack that wouldn't come in SFS files ? I appreciate the work done to put packages together, but I still like to tear them appart and hand pick the mods I want, which the SFS files will not make easy...

Sorry if these questions have already been answered.

Cheers

Absolutely not! Repacking the mods into .sfs files is the whole point.

For your other question, see Charlie's reply three posts up.

Here are a few issues:

1. With Perfect Map Textures option enabled, Slovakia map has no buildings.

2. Gun firing sound for Italian MGs is very strange, likewise a number of engines have an unpleasant hissing/buzzing sound in background, which seems to be linked to stereo effect. Also, a number of engines become much louder idling than when at full RPM, independent of aircraft speed.

3. Ju-88C-6 Zerstörer is using bomber AI.

I'll try to post more as I find them. Thanks for this great mod pack.

Hi

First off THANKS for a great resource!

Secondly, can i ask how one would access the new maps included with HSFX? After successful installation, i notice that the maps are not available in the Map drop down in the Quick Mission Builder... are they only available in the FMB?

Thanks!

d0o0m, read the instruction in the QMB+ readme on how to add new maps!
this plus you will need quick missions for the new maps in the missions folder.....

BlackLion, sorry to be so dense, but where is the QMB+ ReadMe? I'd like to access the new maps in QMB, too. I've checked C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\HSFX V4 Tools & Read me's, but haven't found anything related to QMB in there.

Another question - a friend of mine has installed this great mod but had some problems during the install and now he's got it working but he can't find some stuff, the Hurricane Mk Ib is not in the game for example. Could that be due to a damaged SFS file? I've compared his files with mine and it seems as if all the files are there but if one of them is corrupt...? If anyone knows which SFS file affects the Hurricane Ib maybe we could try to replace it? Or am I thinking in the wrong direction?

Check the downloaded files checksums. I suspect he has a corrupt download somehow. If this is the case, get the correct files and re-install.

Sorry, neither he nor me has got the original download files left. I downloaded via Torrent and then put the files together. I then burnt them on a CD and sent them to my friend. My version do have the Hurricane Ib so there must be soemthing else that has happened somewhere.

Not sure you can remove it completely (although I stand to be corrected), any more than you can remove 4.09 or 4.08 without mod switchers. All you need to do to revert to 4.09 though, is disable HSFX history mod using the JSGME switcher.

cheers

Well after installing a separate C-Media 8768 sound card and disabling the Realtek on my Asus A8N32SLi mobo (wrecking my RAID5 installation in the process - don't ask but it got me a clean re-build!) I still have the sound problem.

I did not have it with 'clean' 4.09m. I have it with the HSFX mods even set to 4.09m and I had it with AAA mods. I don't know if there's a connection.

Basically the engine roars at full blast even before I turn it on. Sometimes I have to start the engine first. I tried EAX1 setting but that's pretty naff after my nice surround sound setup and anyway it often starts so softly I can hardly hear it and have to go into the sound setup and say change channels to get it to a reasonable level.

What is the big difference between the mods sounds and the 'Oleg' sounds?
Can I re-store the 'Oleg' sounds?

There are so many mods now, I don't know which one to spend four hours downloading and installing. Too many different mods makes things worse in my mind......sigh.

Easy:

Want to play primarily online DF servers or DF-based wars with all the latest planes? Go UI or AAA or UltraPack.

Want to play primarily offline or coops with a better ground war? Go HSFX.

Want to stick with the faith? Go stock 4.08 or 4.09.

Note that there are many shades of functionality in all these offerings, with significant overlap. But Fishingnut posed a simple problem, so I attempted to provide a simple answer. Advanced users will find their own truths.

Please direct flames to /dev/null

Cheers,

Hello,

We just DL'ed and installed the HSFX v4 and have a question - When we run the HSFX history mod in Campaign, all the missions are in Russian languare and we can only fly Russian aircraft. With single offline missions we can choose what country we can fly for.

How do we change this?? I cant find where the settings are.

Thanks!

S!

Anybody know why my swordfish has a big pink plate that is blocking the view forward?
Also i can't set static aircraft to germany because it's not in the properties country list.
I've also seem to lost IJN, IJA is in the properties country list.

I've installed Boelcke's newest Campaigns for Dgen and I either get Russian briefings or I get an odd beep from my MB when I hit generate, this is also not fixed by using the Dgen Offline Campaigns (HSFX) mode in JSGME. Oh, and before anyone points out any discrepancies between versions I have the beta with all the a/c I have been scratching my head about this for a while and haven't found a fix for the briefs and the beeping is just well, odd. confused

Can you post the error.log here?
I'm not a HSFX guy but I and many others here (e.g. Boelcke) know something about Dgen, so we might be able to help.

Which campaign? the newest ones - italian falcons, USAAF MTO and channel front - are made for Il2 4.09final and Ultra Pack 1.8

i´ve listed all the used planes in the concerning download sections and in the readme files; if you don´t hav UP 1.8 you have to add the planes which are missing in your installed mod pack

In the instructions to install this package, it states:

2 : If you downloaded IL-2 (Digital version), instead of installing from the CD, get update Patch.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Detail : If you have the digital download version of il2 Sturmovik 1946, and have not installed from the CD,
you will need to to download and apply this patch :- http://allaircraftarcade.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3302. The instructions say to copy the files to the game and then download the soundmod.

If you go to the referenced topic it says to install the soundmod after you copy the fixed files. What soundmod is the instructions refering to ? Is it included in any of the new packages?

Are there any recent links out there for this pack? Wanted to give it a whirl but neither of the links in the first post worked for me. Thanks looks like quite a package, I've been wanting to try out the mods available but installing them all seemed like a daunting task this is really huge!

Hi, I get a question about the 2. step of installation HSFX v4 and v4.1 - If you downloaded IL-2 (Digital version), instead of installing from the CD, get update Patch...

I read about this step in Installation Instructions, but I would be glad, if someone could explain me why I should apply patch (Ubi fix). What does he do, whats wrong with the modded game without this patch etc.

I have digital version IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 4.08 from GOG.com, I applied official 4.09 patch and then HSFX v4 (WITHOUT patch/ubi fix mentioned in 2.step of Installation Instructions). Game runs fine till now.

I would like to know if I should expect any kind of troubles and mainly what is this mysterious patch/ubi fix. Maybe it should be possible to include it into official version of Sturmovik on GOG.com, because they upgrade their downloadable version on 4.09 anyway, so there must be way to put the patch into the game installer.

Thank you for your answer for my courious question.

What exactly is the "AI Certificate 3.0"? Is that an older version of the AI? Or is it a re-working of the AI code?

And what significant changes does it make to AI?

I don't care for the perfect flying of AI at the moment and have always thought it could use some reverting back to older versions or re-worked so its interesting to me to say the least!

Its a complete reworking of the AI code by a programmer called Certificate and its extremely good.
It changes a lot and much too much to list, aircraft speed depends on AI skill, you see scissors a lot more often, AI wingmen do their job better. The constant rolling evasion is rare. Aircraft dive frequently when in trouble. You can even surprise aircraft completely on occasion.
Its not perfect but its a far cry from from the stock AI.
I play a lot of co-op type missions with squads online, its a lot more difficult sometimes to tell which aircraft are players and which are AI with this.
