Five hours online with Ghost Recon Classic yesterday. Twenty guys in one game, at least a half-dozen in others. Big time fun!

Ghost Recon Classic? What's that? Like the original Ghost Recon on the PC?

Yes... and I have to say that with our recent experiences connecting with newer "Tom Clancy" branded games like R6 Vegas 2, etc.. it is pitful what happened to the clean, robust, simple to use Multiplayer interface in the Original Ghost Recon. Not to mention the limitations on # of players.

In so many ways, the Original Ghost Recon was the pinnacle of the series for Multiplayer.

Yup, it's still the best I've seen anywhere, ever. Why even Ubisoft haven't blatantly ripped off their own intellectual property in their other games is beyond me.

Can't disagree with that. Original Ghost Recon is quite possibly my favorite game of all time on any platform.

I admit that some of the better servers require not only the two expansion packs, which every GR fan should have anyway, but two key mods: DA49 and HX5 Red Sun. But I've got God knows how many mods. Too many. I bought the whole kit and kaboodle mod pack from Ghost Recon.Net.

CD #1 has 85 GR Campaigns, too many to list, but includes such titles as Afghanistan Conflict, Airborne Rangers, Civil War, DEA Most Wanted, Iraq Engagement, Saving Pilot Ryan, and Under the Blood Sun.

CD #2 contains 24 Total Conversions, including such favorites as HX5 Red Sun, Swedish Forces, British Royal Marines, and Taskforce Thresher Project: Suns of Thunder. It also includes a handful of "way out there" mods like Dangerous Babes, Unreal Recon, and Cops N Robbers. Months of fun!

CD #3 has Ghost Recon movies

CD #4 contains 74 unique maps or map packs (total is closer to 90) including one called 'Jurassic Park." Plus, a whopping 143 additional missions, including Carpe Diem, Behind Enemy Lines, and Fort Apache.

CD #5 is an equipment disk. On the disk are 48 equipment combinations, 66 weapons mods, and 62 Skins. Weapons range from sniper rifles to period weapons (WWII, Vietnam, etc.), to fantasy weapons including Star Trek Phasers.

CD #6 is titled "Miscellaneous." And that's exactly what's inside: New sound mods that change the music or the characters accents; realistic play mods; weather mods; realistic wound mods; modding tool kits; all the patches; and additional mission and total conversion mods they couldn't fit on the other disks.

As a bonus, they threw in a DVD containing mods for Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter. This isn't worth anything to me because I uninstalled GRAW long ago. I do still occasionally play GRAW2.

GR Classic has been out for 10 years. There's at least 10 more years of total GR immersion on these disks. If memory serves, the whole thing didn't cost me much more than Combo #7 at Burger King.

GR rocks!

Thanks Plainsman, I remember seeing that mod-package a while back, maybe I should buy it, big fan of original Ghost Recon too, though I've only tried it in MP once, many many years ago!

I'd totally be up for some MP when I reinstall my Ghost Recon Complete version(Original+all the expansions), if anyone else's up for it as well! Just tell me what mods I need if any!

How often do you all do MP, and on what server? I loved to do the original RS6 MP, until MSN Zone did away with them frown

I'd definitely pick up GR if there is still an active multiplayer community. Heck, I could probably find it and the expansion packs for about $5 USD biggrin

Guys, Plainsman is so right - GR will apparently never die, due to its excellent MP and huge amount of missions available from a still significant modding community. MP always seems to be fun, I've never walked away feeling like I wasted my time - as in several of the later so-called Tom Clancy series implementations, whether RB6 or GR series. Plainsman, you're old gang never sees you on ICQ, or SimHQ server - but we still to this day occasionally yell in the midst of Steel Beasts or ArmA, "HEY! These guys are SHOOTING AT ME!!", and raise a toast to you.

LOL! I don't have Steel Beasts or ARMA2. I guess I do have ARMA1 but uninstalled. I've been playing a lot of Ghost Recon lately. I still find people to play with on ubi.com. I'd rather play with you guys, but you're always playing ARMA.
Anyway, single-player is fun too. I'm able to try out all these add-on maps, missions, mods and equipment.

You guys absolutely HAVE TO TRY the friggin' weapons mod with the Star Wars/Star Trek Pulse Rifles and Phaser pistols. The Pulse Rifles are unbelievable. Literally lighting guys up! And there is an add-on mission called Fort Apache that's crazy. You're in this Fort and the enemy is coming at you from outside and they've got tanks!

I liked to give ghost recon a try online, is there a guide for getting it to work with the D link 4100 gaming router. Yes Steel Beasts the original was a fantastic game to play online, had a little of everything to offer. Would still like to play Steel Beast online as well, me and polak and a few others had some great battles and fun, then I moved and was stuck with dial up for awhile, now I am back online with cable.

I still play GR1 single player. I'm not even sure where to find a game online.

My big turn off to online play was the OICW. People gamed, the game out of that crappy weapon. automatic grenade launcher and 9x zoom. Lame.

GR1 is a great game. They just dont make games like that anymore.

Take a swing by GR.net where there's still a very active GR community. I'm sure you'll be able to find some MP games smile

Just FYI... SimHQ is looking into a summer weekly classic event where we get together for co-op play using classics like GR, R6, SWAT... etc etc... more on that later.

I'd say it will be 3 months long, the 3 classics in rotation once a week for about 3 hours give or take.

Nothing overly fancy or complicated, and a simple come when you can.

I agree with you guys. After I read this thread I installed the game again and played the first three mission. Unbelievable, but it's still a great game, even after all the years. I say it has some great immersion to it and for whatever reason, I feel like Ghost Recon is more fun than the two other tactical games I've installed right now, ArmA 2 and OFP:DR.

I just ordered the 6xDVD mod collection from Ghost Recon.net and am really looking forward to it.

I'm pretty sure Nephilim, Striker and Recluse will want to join in, as long as RL doesn't get in the way and we get a heads up. We've had some great times with GR over the years.

Bit late, but I will be up for Ghost Recon and Raven Shield over the summer. Would be an awesome complement to MM.
