Hi!
Yesterday I tought about something. How much would it cost to have a perfect cockpit replica of a P-51/F4U/Spit/Bf109 on hydrolics(like real Sim for airliners).
Also, would it be possible, lets say with the new ATI EyeFinity, to have a setup of screens that recreate the view you would have (like a screen in front, on on top, one each side of you, and one to your rear left and right, so you would not need trakIR to look, but just turning your head like if you were in a real plane. Is it doable ?

Yes. It's all doable. See this MyCockpit thread for an example of a high end display system: http://www.mycockpit.org/forums/showthread.php?t=17647 This looks like a professional system, but started as a hobby quite a few years ago.

I doubt anyone can give you a real dollar figure for the "perfect sim" as each person has their own approach to building/buying components, as well as, their own defintion of "perfect". For one definition of "perfect" see http://www.simhardware.org/index.html

Bottom line: It IS possible. It's also a big project requiring a lot of resources whether measured in dollars or in hours of your time.

First you have to make sure that the sim in question will allow the radical display of items that are going to be behind you without you changing the view somehow. I am far from a code expert but this has been re-hashed many times in the Ace's High 2 BBS for hardware and software. I don't think that even the newest video card from ATI/AMD will function in the setup you are looking for.

As for a dollar figure....100k should do nicely to start. I like cash and I might have something for you in about 2 Weeks!

i dont know if there is a perfect sim...

given space, cost, functionality....

i think the best thing to do is just research.

say you spend 10K on peripherals..which might not work on most applications, like the motion platform.. 6Gs on a D-box might not be realistic for 2 or 3 games...

you have to realize the support available..

at first i really wanted to get that MVRC copy cat, but 5000$ for a frame wasnt in my budget, so i made my mods using ch products..

later on, after work and experience, i felt i made a good choice in making a pit using ch products because the software allows me to work with alot of games...

even today, i hardly use my triplehead 2 go, because it is taxing to run at 3x widescreen resoultions..

if you are new... just get a cheap controller, like a x52 or something, try get your self used to what is need to play your sim...

utlimately, the 'perfect" simpit will be based on your needs and desires...(but first you have to know what you really want, and if it is functional with what it is that you play)
