This illustrates the upgrading of lo-res models to hi-res using my method rather than starting from scratch. I started on this model 4 days ago:

I still need to work on the landing gear and the wing view but it should be ready by early next week.

If fact, since the coders are finishing a few last minute modifications to 1.28c, which will delay the SPAW release until the last week of October, I may have time to replace the lo-res Beaufighter in SPAW with this one.

Now thatīs what I call a decent Beaufighter cheers

The Beau used to have some interesting weaponīs configurations. You made some
loRes variants by yourself, Ray . DAW features the MkIc and the Mk VIc, respectively. Which versions are on your list?

...some nice Tiger camos wouldnīt be bad, either exitstageleft

Fran,

I do have a nice desert skin from a CFS 2 Beaufighter that will adapt the same way as the one in the screen shot. In addition, the EAW skinners can do a much better job that I can cutting and pasting textures.

I can easily make the various modified models by leveling the horizontal stabilizers and adding the dorsal extension.

And of course look for the rarebirds like the version with 2x 20mm cannon and 1 x 40mm cannon or the Griffon powered beasty. Now THAT was a Beaufighter!

Hi Ray,

That looks a lot better than the old one. I will reserve judgement until I see the finished object but the engines still look a little too large in diameter and the forward fuselage a little too deep, though that may be an optical illusion - do you still have the files I sent you last year when we first talked about this? If not I can send them again. At least it no longer looks like a fat 410 with radials.

Cheers

Peter

Peter,

The nose wasn't really that bad. The windshield was too sloped. What threw it all off was the engines. They were much too large in diameter and the nacels were way too short.

Also the fuselage was much too short and the horizontal stabilizers were completely the wrong shape.

I overlayed a line drawing that I found online to get the profile correct. This is about as good as it's going to get with the limitations of 3dz elements.

Hi Ray,

Quite right, the nose looked too short, probably due to the cockpit, and that emphasized the rather fat appearance but the main problem was the huge engines and the "horizontal" (actually dihedral on most versions) tail surfaces being much too far forward in relation to the "vertical" tail. I almost managed to fix that with your help, but eventually lost patience and gave it up as a bad job. Good luck, can't wait to replace my old versions. I see you might re-do your 40mm version? Also the late MkX with the tail fillet. Any chance of a Merlin version as well?

Cheers

Peter

Yes, they'll all eventually show up.

I really want to do the Griffon engined version. That was quite a beast.
