Got assigned to the Beaufighter as my first "Career" flight in testing the final touches on SPAW (South Pacific Air War).
Unfortunately it was a bombing mission. So I didn't get to fully check out its capabilities.
I did enjoy the run. With a sky full of escort "little friends" helping out, we survived the Japanese defenders' attack and dropped our eggs. That's remarkable for EAW, where bombers are just dessert for fighters.
One thing I can tell you--the Beaufighter stretches the gasoline when the rpm's are turned down and you have a "Low Fuel" warning and a hundred miles of empty Pacific sea in front of you.
Almost made it and splashed down within sight of home base coastline.
