OK but I saw a video of Lockon in action looked like it worked to me???
Lock On features a dynamic view zoom control; it can be assigned to an analogue axis or controlled via TrackIR. It is thus possible to make it almost good enough. The real test, however, is if there is no vertical information lost when moving from a single-screen to a triplehead resolution. In the case of Lock On such a thing has not been proven to be possible.
If you have TrackIR the lost information is not too noticeable. However, there is a bug in Lock On that hurts performance at large FOV angles, so when you zoom out all of the way to see everything the framerates can drop.
Also what would be needed to get the FOV changed in JF-18?? Source code mod or other mod??
It's just hex editing. There are already a number of FOV mods out there for widescreen that tweak the FOV from the default value set for 4:3 resolutions. It would be possible to create one for triplehead, but the TSH widescreen cockpit does a good job. The problem with all of these FOV adjsutments is that they behave oddly when using the FLIR (which is a very important tool in JF-18). The wider the FOV the more the HUD symbology bleeds over the glass, too.
