Everyone in here needs to rachet it down a couple of notches. Some of you probably need to take it down three notches.

I don't care if you love or hate RoF and/or OFF, you need to stop the jabs at each other and resorting to elementary school name calling about whichever sim you do not care for.

It's fine to discuss each sims benefits and weaknesses, but some of you are carrying it to an extreme.

I second that aswell.
Never understood the hate between people of different simulators. After all, we all love flight simulation!

I think its because people are frustrated with the game and vent at each other, I know I have been guilty for this and I'm sorry to those who I have vented at.

One other thing I think there should be is Middle ground. You automatically get put into a catogory of either a fanboy or you hate the game...

Why do we need to pick a side? I get flamed for being a Rise of flight hater, because I get annoyed at bugs and such. I would like to see some middle ground, I like the game, dislike the pay per plane system, and dislike the bugs. I don't hate the game.

Active or not active, I think that if the community were happy you would see few conflicts in online forums. I don't think moderaters can change this, if the game gets better, people are going to be happy. Happy people are less likely to curse at each other.

But you know, we can't win for losing. If we clamp down we're accused of being heavy handed censors and worse. If we let things go, then it's why don't we be more active.

I, and others on Staff, watch this forum and others on site. My goal is to let people talk, within the bounds of being civil to one another. When the insults start to fly, we step in. Sometimes this is not black & white. There's no book to say what is an insult and who finds things insulting when another doesn't. Everyone is different and their perceptions are as well.

Please do not take it personal and I'm not meaning you are lazy, but if you take a look at RoF-Nq; Combatace and Simouthouse forums you will notice more respect to each other!! Reason is that moderators are more active in communicating to the topic starter / replier, even remove the hole topic or ban the person for a time.

Respect you all

Thanks Dutch, no I don't take it personally. Got a pretty thick skin after all the years on these boards.

Without getting into the site versus site comparison, sure, there are different ways to do it. We used to be pretty strict in our moderating (there were reasons for it), and got called jacked booted thugs, Nazis and other nice things. We were accused of wanting a shiny happy place where no dissent was allowed. Well, even then we allowed dissent, we just wanted people to be polite about it.

Fast forward to today. Can we just start banning and editing and deleting threads? Sure. We still have those powers and we use them when the occasion dictates. But we'd rather have a place where people can say what's on their minds without fear of getting thrown out.

Caveat: Don't start abusing and attacking your fellow members. That is a judgment call we make and will make.

Hope that makes sense. Send me a PM if it doesn't.

Make perfect sense to me. Allow active debate and discussion if the poster do not call each other names and attack fellow posters.

It might also make sense, to not react on every "basher-topic" that's been created here, because the chances of civil and objective conversation in those topic is very slim.

Or to make it simple: Don't feed the trolls.

Unfortunately, it's signs of the times. Seems in the last decade or so there has been a marked increase in the if-you-don't-see-things-the-way-I-do-then-you're-an-idiot school of human interaction. You see it behind the wheel of a car, on the streets, in the media and in the halls of government. Polarization and the lack of willingness to recognize validity of varying viewpoints has become the norm and there are no apologies for it. I applaud the efforts of any moderating team that rides herd on boards that allow discussions. It's a tough job, but thank goodness somebody is out there trying to enforce civility in this little corner of the world.

The solution is very simple: Require everyone to use their real names.

Anonymity in all forums invites misconduct. I've never understood its universal use in on line conversations.

That, of course, isn't going to change here.

My real name is Anthony Sommer. I live in Phoenix, Arizona. I'm in the phone book. I'm a semi-retired journalist and my real name has gone on everything I've written for more than 40 years.

Why is that so impossible?

We'll need to verify that caller and be aware that some of this may be recorded for training porpoises

What was your mother's maiden name and question two what was the name of your first pet

A fiver says it was Commodore. The pet.

I read most all threads. Most are tripe.

Too many people seem to make a living trolling public forums and far too many people seem make a living arguing with them.

If someone says something disagreeable and had supporting material, give them their soap box, if they are being too "troll-like", vicious and scathing in their remarks, ban them.

It really is that simple.

Good thread. I find it amusing how players of OFF and RoF attack each other.

Maybe we should learn from these examples:

LOFT, producer of ROF congratulating OFF team
http://riseofflight.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?p=29311#p29311

Polovski, OFF team member helping someone get RoF going
http://www.theaerodrome.com/forum/456524-post2.html

If they can act this way, then the players can too.
