Dude, no disrespect intended, but if you're a working pilot you can afford a new PC. My God, I thought my PC was a dinosaur.
Anyway, I think the mission sets in YAP2 are well worth the money. You do realize YAP2 is not a standalone sim?

Whatever, small charter company I fly for I could make way more money doing vehicle maintenance. So I guess I'll have to pass since my Dinosaur isn't up to the task. Too bad. Yep, I do realize it's NOT a stand alone simulation and I was hoping to have money for it by the beginning of Nov, but I guess I'll use that money for other things. Maybe I'll stash some cash away for a new dinosaur. :-) Curtis Montana

I didn't mean to say your PC wasn't up to the task. But it is pretty old. I thought I had the oldest PC on SimHQ. But mine is like next gen compared to yours. Check the specs on Wings Over Vietnam, the main game, and the specs for the YAP2 total conversion. You may be good to go but won't be able to crank up the graphics goodness. You gotta have Wings Over Vietnam before you can install YAP2.

Cloudy,
With a low end system you would have to adjust your ingame graphics, trial and error to find a suitable setup.
A 512MB addon vid card would be fine, but keep in mind your power supply has to be up to the task, along with monitor capability.
More RAM is always better, and shutting down some other programs that are running helps also.
I've been testing Yankee Air Pirate from inception on low end to high end systems. Of course a good gamer is preferable. IMHO, the enjoyment level is in the eye of the beholder.

Cloudy,
Go with what 8 L.E.I.N. wrote. And check system requirements for both Wings Over Vietnam and YAP2. My system falls somewhere between your rig and 8 L.E.I.N.'s: Pentium 4.0, 3.4GHz, 2GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB. I'm running YAP2 at maximum rez for my 24 inch monitor, and it is smooth as silk. Most people think my rig is too old (maybe not my vid card). It's a single-core processor like yours, but it's a P4 not a P3. My guess is you can probably run the main game, Wings Over Vietnam, with no trouble at all. I just don't know about YAP2 which has better graphics than the main game.

Hey Cloudy, Yeah, people assume pilots make a ton of money, I was amazed to hear the average coach (bus)driver made more than a small commercial pilot. I think people assume the complexity and experience of flight is paid for in the marketplace, surprising how it isn't, just a labor of love. If you start listing the specs of the components you are looking at, before you buy them, I'm sure members of this forum could guide you down the budget road to a new sim machine. My opinion is that in the future, flight sims will be the genre that saves the PC as a gaming platform. Consoles will never compete with that market. So, good luck, and save money by finding deals in one place to save on shipping. Newegg.com, etc. I have some old vid cards I might be able to part with as well, I'm sure others do as well.
