I've got a problem with the Ka-52. With the Mi-28, AH-64, and RAH-66, you want to stay as low as possible generally, which means that your Attakas and Hellfires will be skimming the ground as they head toward the target. But the Vikhr spirals in toward the target, and as often as not, clips the ground before it gets there.

What tactics do other people use to avoid this? Do you simply pop up a couple hundred meters before firing (if so, how high do you generally go?). Is there some other tactic or trick to avoid this?

Many thanks...

When does it hit the ground? If it does right after you fire it, then you're probably too low when you fire it (but you don't need to be several hundred meters high when you fire, the missiles don't spiral that much). If it is before you hit the target then you're probably firing at targets which are too close (the spiraling gets smaller as the missile speed increases).

For reference, the real helicopter has the following limits, and they should work in EECH too:
Minimal safe launch altitude: 10 m (if hovering), 50 m (in forward flight)
Minimum range: 800m

But you also of course have to be high enough that the missile can travel to the target and clear all the terrain in between. This is easier with the Hellfire as it flies a high trajectory. But the Attakas of the Mi-28 would have the same problem.

The 50m minimum when in forward flight is what I was messing up, I think. They were sometimes whacking the ground soon after launch. Thanks for the information!

Hello Mitlov

My theory is that the KA52 and the Mi 28 need to be use different tactics to the blue force helos. I try to shoot down from High ground using the KA 52, trying whenever possible to use the optical or IR aiming . Using the Apache and the Commanche you can attack from more concealed positions using the LOAL mode and the Radar.

Thanks as ever to everyone for their hard work with this Sim
