I've been racing on rFactor for a while now, but am looking at expanding my horizions to the GTR series sims as well. Problem is, there are so many to choose from. I wan't to make sure I get the one people are racing on the most. I've been looking at GTR2 and GTR Evolution primarily. After reading both of their descriptions, it seems like GTR2 has more content than Evolution, but it is much older. I don't necessarily care if it is older, I just want to make sure I get the one that people are still racing on.
I appreciate any input you guys might have to point me in the right direction.
Most leagues use all the sims with different series held most nights like raceconnect and Race2Play, SimHQ usually uses rfactor.
GTR2 is a masterpiece though and has a very detailed and grueling championship it still looks good with all details on full and runs as smoothas sik on modern PC's definitely a must have.
I think alot of sim racers are waiting for the next gen games to come out like rfactor 2 and it looks like once Raceon (Race06/Race07/GTREVO/STCC addon) has been released simbin could announce a new GT sim with the new Lizard engine (don't hold me to that though)
Well I'm thinking about getting GTR 2 for sure. It seems like that is a better sim from what I've seen on other sites. Maybe I'll get GTR Evo and Race On when it comes out (I love american muscle and would probably enjoy that immensely). Prices are pretty low for these sims at the moment online so I could afford to get all of them if I really wanted to. But, it seems like GTR 2 is the better racing experience if I understand correctly.

The American Muscle mod for rFactor is better than the American Muscle cars in the Race On demo. True, I could only compare the Dodge Challenger, but that was my take. You can't go wrong with GTR2. I agree with the other poster that GTR2 is a masterpiece. I suggest you target GTR2 and GTR Evolution for now.

Well, today I ordered GTR 2 Game of the Year. It should arrive in 3-6 days and I can begin using it then. I'm looking forward to trying it out.
Also, I don't know if I should start a new thread about this or continue it on this thread, but I've got 2 monitors and I am looking for a way to set my sims up to span both monitors. One monitor is at 1920x1080 and the other is at 1680x1050. If anyone has any tips on how to do this, I would appreciate it.

Hi
You might get it to work by spanning your desktop and setting it to 3360x1050. Try running the GTR2 config and see if that resolution is there. If it is, you should be able to simply select it.
Good luck

Do you want your view to be split on both monitors or do you want your cockpit on one monitor and out side the window on the other? I hope you get what I mean, I don't really know how to explain it.

GT Legends has Starforce security; GTR2 does not.

I'm open to trying it either way. I've been playing around with softTH and have OK results with that. I'm getting slight issues since my monitors are 2 different resolutions, but it works alright.
I should add that I am running Windows 7 on the following hardware:
680i LT Motherboard Intel Q6600 CPU @ 3.0GHz 4GB DDR2 800MHz RAM 2 nVidia 8800GTS 512 GPUs (Ability to turn on SLI)
If you are only spanning on two monitors, you don't need SoftTH (assuming you're using Windows XP). Just set your desktop to span, and the spanned resolution should be available in the GTR2 config utility. Your video card has two outputs; connect one to each monitor.
I'm actually running Windows 7, so I don't think I can span the desktop. I kind of like how softTH puts the main view on 1 monitor and the peripheral view on the other monitors (or monitor in my case). I've got GTR 2 installed and running and have had some fun with it so far. Haven't raced online yet, just going through some practice sessions to get used to the feel. I really like the feel, but the graphics are a bit dated looking. That isn't too big on an issue to me though, I knew going in that they were going to look a bit dated.

Hey, if you want to try out something different you might want to try out Project Torque. It is not as realistic as rFactor or the GTR series, but the competition is though nonetheless. It is also free of charge and there are always people to race against. Check out this YouTube trailer.
