Yeah mainstream reviews are becoming more and more useless.
1) Their pockets often get lined, so their judgment is clouded. Sometimes intentionally.
2) They review it from a journalist's perspective instead of a gamer's. It's no longer about the game being good and/or fun. It's more about innovation (new IPs), technology (new engines) and garbage issues like that. If I enjoy the game and play it for hours upon hours, I don't care about the points they make out to be such a big deal.
3) Multiplayer is often forgotten. Hello? Many of us will play the SP portion for a couple days, maybe a week or two. We will spend months and months in the multiplayer. The reviews often add a paragraph or two or omit it entirely and the basis for the review is the SP. I know that is all that counts to some people, but not the majority of us.
I don't even read most of the crap anymore. I just go by demos, vids and info on the game that is concrete and/or info from friends who have played it, and make my own judgments. I've learned to know what I'll like and what I probably won't.
Hmm, that rant just slipped out. Whoops.
All that said, the review scores are probably pretty accurate. As long as T10 don't mung MP up somehow, which I doubt they will.
Thanks for the links.
