i could not get the mission editor to open with the Steam download.

i was able to fix it by installing the Microsoft.NET Framework, which i did not have installed before.

i also had to install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package ATL Security Update from this page:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/detai...72-9112bab119c2

the mission editor will now open for me.

the Steam version installs the editor to:
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\operation flashpoint dragon rising\Mission Editor

you start it by clicking on the MissionEditor.exe in that folder, or by placing a shortcut to it in a convenient location.

there are .mssn mission files in the folder:
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\operation flashpoint dragon rising\Mission Editor\Help\Missions

i post this in case it might help someone else.

p.s. the manual can be found here: http://cdn.steampowered.com/Manuals/12830/OFP2%20MAN%20PC%20US%20V01.pdf?t=1254862411

go to Windows Update and click on Custom and it will appear in the Software, Optional list, if you don't already have it.

this is what fixed it for me, but i can't guarantee that it will work for everyone.

you can check your Add/Remove Programs list to see if you already have the .NET Framework. the current version is 3.5.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/detai...72-9112bab119c2

Are you getting that "side by side" error?

initially the mission editor would not work for me.

i installed the .NET Framework to see if that would fix it. that alone did not work.

i found the recommendation on the Codemasters forum to install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package ATL Security Update.

i already had Visual C++ 2005 installed and the editor was not working but after installing that security update it now works.

And without wanting to start a flame war, this is why I prefer console gaming generally - it just works.

Having said that, I am getting OFPDR on 360 and PC smile

we will have to wait to see if this occurs with the dvd version. a number of people were having this problem with the Steam version, but it might not happen with the dvd install.

people don't all have the same programs installed on their computers so there can be problems for some, while others don't have the same problem.

i needed the .net framework + the security update for visual c++ 2005 to get the editor working on my pc.
