i found the recommendation on the Codemasters forum to install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package ATL Security Update.

i already had Visual C++ 2005 installed and the editor was not working but after installing that security update it now works.

I just ran in the other room and tried it, fixed the error for me. Thanks! thumbsup

The monkey cage at the zoo is less chaotic than the CM forums, thanks for posting it somewhere where the signal to noise ratio is much better.

Didn't work for me.

Vista 64 Ultimate here.

DL'd both the x64 as well as the x86 files. Nothing.

I already had .NET 3.5 + SP1.

Any ideas?

in this thread at Codemasters "Malkuth" has several good posts about this problem.

also, "Bloodburn" posts that he has Vista 64-bit, and the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package ATL Security Update , fixed it for him.

http://community.codemasters.com/forum/showthread.php?t=383947

in order to get Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package ATL Security Update to install, Malkuth had to right-click on it and choose "Run As Administrator" to get it to install.

were you able to install that Update version of C++ 2005 on your computer?

did both x64 and x86versions install?

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/detai...72-9112bab119c2

there is also a C++ 2008 version of the Update, but i think that the 2005 version is what is needed to get the editor working.

Tried running the 2005 version as Admin and it throws some "ERROR 1402 unknown key" or something along those lines, so I can't even install that ATL file. No matter what C++ 2008/2005 files I download, it just won't work. I know it probably has something to do with that 1402 error, but what, I have no idea.

Hopefully this gets addressed in their first patch. Players having to go download extra files in order to get a game to work correctly is a little disappointing.

On a side note, I bought the Retail version as well in the box and have the same problem.

Thanks for the help so far though, it is much appreciated.

Ok,I got it to work finally.

Error 1402 is a Permission error in the Unknown\Components area of the registry. I had to basically go in ad modify users/groups to allow full control for myself.

I did that, reinstalled the C++ 2005 file and it worked.

What a royal PITA that was. LOL
