So I was doing some cleaning and archiving the past few days looking at some of my installs and decided that I’d post photos of the X-Plane community created aircraft that I’ve kept in my X-Plane directory because a lot of them are darn good. So, in no particular order…

Hhmm. Looks much better than I thought possible for X-Plane.

No..not at all in fact. You can set X-Plane to have I think up to 12 other aircraft flying around in the air with you..but all they do is come and go and they don't do anything remotely AI-like. They don't land, takeoff, taxi around. FSX is far, far superior in that regard. It is probably the single biggest weakness to X-Plane (other than the non-specific and repeating scenery). That and the ATC need the biggest amounts of attention in future builds.

No problem. I guess (I haven't tried it) that some users of X-Plane connect to the VATSIM world, which is dominated by FS9/FSX users...but apparently it works just fine. So you can fly X-Plane online, but offline you will be severely disappointed by the lack of AI aircraft..so Microsoft wins that contest hands down.

It has me curious to try VATSIM with X-Plane though..I might do that this winter when I'm looking for something to try out. thumbsup

Hi Guys,
do you know a website, which list all these freeware planes, helis etc. with the features they come with. I.e. Do they have a 3D Cockpit, the model quality and so on?

And thanks Beach for your v9 review.

Couple new additions to the hangar:

Airbus A320 with 5 new liveries. Nicely done with nice reverse thrust animations and a fairly good "Airbus" feel to it. Bank angle remains the same after input, although I noticed there is a very, very slow drift-down to level pitch after a couple minutes. Still, not bad.

Available HERE

A revamped Sukhoi SuperJET SSJ100 with better 3D modeling. Speedbrakes, thrust-reversers. Nice Russian callouts from the cockpit systems too.

Available HERE

And an interesting, but not really complete aircraft (has some see-through issues with the external model). Cool paint job and a novel 2D cockpit (I can't understand much of it..but I get the gist..).. Heinkel He-177A-5/R-2 "Greif" "Reichsfeuerzeug"

Available HERE

The "home" of X-Plane is pretty much http://www.x-plane.org There you will find a download manager with all kinds of X-Plane aircraft (of varying quality). You'll see descriptions of the add-ons, and sometimes you can judge by the "rating" and sometimes from the comments or just the screenshot whether they are worth a look.

Good luck!

Every so often I think about buying X-Plane and then don't, sometimes I even download the demo.

Usually its the terrain that does it in the end or the lack of decent virtual pits to use with TIR. I enjoy the flight models but outside the flying it just seems that bit clunky, with every version it seems to be getting better though.

Also my thoughts...
I wonder what is on these 6 DVDs? Shouldn`t be the terrain much better with so much data?

I only have 1 of the 6 DVDs installed (North America). The reason for this is that I only have a single 140GB Raptor drive in my system. If I installed all 6 DVDs then I think it expands to something like 60GB and I just don't have the room right now. BUT..I did just install a 1.5TB drive on my computer a few days ago..so I think it's time to bust out those other 5 DVDs..! yep

This scenery I see... is that all default? The Tenerife airport, or the buildings in the pic with the Twotter, etc?

No..some of the scenery is from Tom Curtis' payware package "Inside Passage": http://www.xplanefreeware.net/tom/InsidePassage/Home.html

The other scenery - Tenerife is a freeware conversion from an older MSFS payware package I believe - but it is free for X-Plane. There is more and more of this "conversion" process going. I think it has benefits and drawbacks.

Couple of new freebies for the X-Plane'ers out there..

A beautiful new Stinson that is included with the latest updated X-Plane download (latest version that updates your X-Plane)..

It has a beautiful and functional 3D cockpit..can be flown from an aft or forward viewpoint...

Several different liveries are available..

Nice AN255..but no VC...

Really nice Baron..again without a VC unfortunately, but it has a passable 2D panel and looks and flies great..

I have no idea what kind of aircraft this is..the file says "Aermacchi M.C.200 Saetta"..but it sounds awesome and looks cool..

I got XP for 15 bucks the other day off Amazon. 60GB? doesnt the terrain HAVE to be good? good lord.

So if there is no AI, how did all those Fedex planes get in there? Is there capability to create AI traffic like we do on MSFS? Or is it just a feature that does not exist as yet?

60 GB of mostly repetitive stuff. You would think it would be better..and it is certainly on Laminar's radar that both the terrain and the traffic issues need to be addressed.

There is AI..but there all they do is fly through your airspace without any real routing or anything. The FedEx planes are from a Memphis scenery add-on (freeware). I'll try to scare up the link to it..

WEll, you could always tune to a real ATC broadcast and listen to that while you're flying around. And if you MP it really makes no difference whether there is AI or not I suppose.

If they would just open it up to the community, I am sure they would take it from there as far as AI goes. Just give us the possibility of making traffic and they wouldn't have to do a thing.
2 cents.

Thanks for the link, fedex looks good.

BeachAV8R,

You have a d/l link for that BK115? The yellow one. Is that the one with the absolutely stunning 3D panel?

That last screenshot would be a Macchi 200, and Italian fighter during WWII. The Macchi series is by far my favorite plane series to fly for WWII italy >:).

Does anyone know if someone has made a super-cobra for x-plane yet?

Man, like those FedEx pics...the 727 with the Purolator aircraft looks a LOT like the Vancouver ramp (though we actually take Airbuses in there now, but there is a Canadian flagged FedEx 757 that flies in there now too).

The Memphis line looks nice...but the MD-11s and DC-10 textures...close, but not quite there. DC-10 label is squashed, and MD-11s should look like the DC-10 in the tail area...and FedEx isn't painted on the winglets.

Nitpicking, I'll be the first to admit...
