OK, I have a nice , shiny, new, VISTA 64 bit computer.....which other than THIS, I love.

I went to install F/A-18, and just after clicking the final 'Finish', the install screens just ...went away, and clicking on the shortcut yields a note that there is a problem with this game and this OS. I looked on the C: Drive, and in the Program Files IS my game. I deleted the files and tried again, this time targetting the Program Files (x86) folder. Nope.

To add a little salt in the wound, my borrowed copy of Falcon 4 installs [what looks like] perfectly.

Any ideas, or help? I *have* considered running the Games on an old XP machine, in another NON-SHARED room, so I can crank up the speakers, etc. May come to that, eh??

Bill

P.S. One of the reasons I bought NOW was to qualify for the Free Win Seven Upgrade....Just for something to fool with. Maybe in Win7 all will be 'hunky-dory' ?

You might also try installing it in Win 98 mode

Hi Bill. I have just gone through the learning process of installing this sim on Windows 7 and here is what works for me: First, try installing in another directory other than program file (for example "C:/games/FA-18). Second, and maybe most important, dont use the installer on the autorun menu. Browse the cd, right click on setup.exe and run as administrator. Lastly, if you are installing JGME for the latest TSH patch, run that as administrator too.

Thanks...Nephilim and Ripcord. You gotta INSTALL, before those things, Mates!

Brownie......"NEGATORY". As a matter of fact, long ago I wrote the files from the Game CD to a folder on my External HD, for easier re-re-re-re-re......installing. And I always go to the Set-Up [exe]. So this last attempt I ran the Set-Up 'as administrator', using New Folder [C: HORNET]. Nope. Thought maybe it wanted me to run the register and readme... No, on that either.

I dunnooooo............. I jumped into 64 bit for 'learning / entertainment / giggles', and knew 'something' might not work....

Oh, yeah... Ignoring it all, I click on the Start Menu Shortcut and follow the failing signs...Admin and/or Not......until the program closes. It *looks* like it IS installed, but..............

OK!!! Well...I always knew you guys were smart. *On faith*, I did 'the install', the Offical Patch, TSH 1, TSH3 ....

Hit the Start Menu shortcut... and Up Jumped Jonah!

Yes... it DID work... at least as far as getting to the RunWay Take Off Training Mission.... Probably be fine, after that... I just wanted to get back here...

So.......... egg on face, apologies to you first repliers...

That's a strange one Bill. I haven't tried installing on Vista 64 but it works fine for me on Win 7 64.

Did you install the TSH patch too? Have you tried uninstalling and run ccleaner or Windows Live Onecare to clean the Jane's stuff from your registry.

How were you able to copy the files from the cd? Mine is copy protected. Have you tried to install from your original cd rather than your copied files?

NEVERMIND, I just saw that you got it running!

It might be useful to somebody reading this.........

I have "TSHv1H" {application}, and a barn-full of files in a ZIP called "TSHv3.03"
{I got this whole pile of Hornet stuff from a guy that collected a LOT of it}

I've only had the computer for three days. I did go into the Register between and delete anything Jane's...

Oh... on the CD. I just created a folder on my Ext HD, stuck in ONE of my F/A-18 CDs, went to Windows Explorer, browsed for the drive and contents... 'copy/paste'. Simple, and handier than that pile of CD's. I just run the Set-Up .exe whenever I re....................install!

Yup, I'm glad to get it running on here. I'm not very good at this Game, but I have spent a lot of Winter nights 'playing at' it!
