Hi,

after once again having been disappointed while doing my once-per-year attempt with SP in IL-2, I allowed myself getting talked into trying BOB2 now. I await my copy in the next 2-3 days.

However, reading around a bit I understand that my old system probably needs to see the options being set to medium, probably low setting, and not using the multi-textures for 2.10. I also understand that I need to expect to switch off autogen details. It is okay for me as long as I can do some reasonable dogfight in the air and maybe some small bomber formation battle action. I do not hope to run the biggest battles possible with hundreds of planes.

Considering the specs listed below, do you have any more suggestions how to tweak the sim to get the best performance out of it?

P-IV, 3 GHz
2 GB RAM
AGP 7950GS (512 MB)
Audigy
Win XP
WS monitor, native res 1680x1050
CH Fighterstick+ProThrottle
Simped Vario Pro
TrackIR 4

Experience shows that I can run the following titles (given for comparison) with perfectly fluid frames in the screen's native resolution of 1680x1050 when not using AF:

Falcon 4 AF
GTR 2 with maximum details and maximum driver fields
Oblivion, max details but no AF
ArmA, high details, no AF
SBP-PE
IL-2, maximum details, no AF
heavily modded FS9

Hello Skybird. Actually you should be fine as long as you keep some details below top settings.

Some general tuning tips that you might need to use:
Quote:

Options->GFX/More GFX:

Weather Detail = Low/Medium
Particle Density = Low
Object Quality = Medium
Ground Density = Medium
Horizon Distance = Medium

Also in the Bdg.txt file make sure you have:

ENABLE_AUTO_GEN=OFF
MULTI_SKIN_MODE=DISABLE

You may get away with Multiskin just fine, though. It'll be a matter of testing once you have things installed and seeing which settings have an effect on your particular system. They are all different, afterall.

Thanks. Does it make a chnage for that kind of system to reduce texture size from 2048 to 1024, or is that only for graphics cards with smaller memory?

Also I read reports that MULTI_SKIN_MODE=DISABLE decreases stability and makes the sim more often to ctd!? Also, does that command have an effect on skins in the sim if the multiskin-pack for 2.10 is not installed at all? I do not know if there are multi skins included by default that the additional pack only supplements, you know.

I think you may be OK with texture = 2048 on your PC (but of course I am not sure). Your bottle neck will be the processor speed.

Study this thread so you can "best" tune your specific PC for its best settings/performance:

The stability of BOBII is super for both MultiSkin and non-MultiSkin setups. You will not get MultiSkins if you do "not" load the 2.10 MultiSkin. Get you game setup, tuned, and understood first and then after you are running well you can try MultiSkin.
