Got Ef2000 running under under dosbox. On my core2duo it runs like a charm, somehow through the magic of dosbox's upscaling mode it looks better than it did back in the day. How it manages to stretch the screen so it works at 1600x1200 I don't know. With my logitech 3d pro stick and shoot for voice control, the game is more playable than ever.

Just wish I could figure out a way of getting trackIR to work in the virtual cockpit. I've tried ppjoy and tir2joy but no joy!

DID certainly knew how to make 'em.

Cool!

Which version of EF2000 from this list are you running?

Yes they did. The more I mod TAW, the more I recognize the genius in their architecture (the genius in the gameplay goes without saying).

So far as TrackIR goes, I feel the same way. I think Formski was able to patch TAW because it already had hooks for the UR headset (which is incidentally what ppjoy used before Formski really opened things up).

I would love to have TrackIR for the Win95 version, but to be honest I would settle for a way to get 3DFX working in win95 as well (unfortunately the 3DFX version makes direct hardware calls without using the Glide API, so it's only good for DOS and only for an actual 3DFX card).

I'm running the ef2000 evolution setup. I picked it up specifically for teh tactcom addon and the gfx+ patch with the intention of trying it with dosbox years ago - its a bugger it was one of the first to use 3dfx.

As far as TIR goes, I've been trying to use the ppjoy/tirjoy combo outlined in the f-22 tir thread here in this very forum, couple this with the keymapper function of dosbox but the mapper doesnt seem to allow you to mix axis from 2 differnet sticks, i.e. use axis 1 & 2 of my logitech for flying and then the axis presented by the ppj/tir2joy virtual stick for the hat switch seen in the emulated stick by ef2000 when running under dosbox.

Would help if I could remember what axis ef2000 expects for the hat switch.

Damn you Homefies you beat my reigistration date by 22 days :-D

Interesting. I had assumed that my copy of Super EF2000 had some sort of hardware graphics acceleration since it requires DirectX 3.0 on Win95. I now realise that the Direct3D component is not used at all.

I need to find some screenshots to see what the 3DFX version of EF2000 looked like...

The EF2000 manual says it supports the 'Thrustmaster Flight Control System', whatever that is, and goes on to describe what the hat does. I guess that's not much help though.

The accelerated version looks far better than the Windows version. I have never been able to get the 3Dfx install to function using my old Voodoo2 card, even using the the VD2 workaround that used to be posted last years ago, so it might no look the same as the other accelerated version...The Rendition (!) install. I keep an old P3 133 machine with Win98 on life support just for this purpose, because it has one of the ancient Rendition 3D cards. EF2000 runs well and looks great (well, very good for the era and compared to the unaccelrated version). Smoothed terrain, the giant pixels are tamed.

Voodoo 1 cards apparently were the card the calls were designed for. Perhaps someone has an old one lying around in a box that could be dug up and tested?

Ah, the Thrustmaster FCS. This was the first stick with a hat switch, originally designed with Falcon 3.0 in mind.

Basically, if it supports the FCS, it should hopefully support any like-joystick that runs in DOS.

So, have I got this right? The only way to get the full EF2000 experience is by running in DOS on a PC with a Voodoo1 card?
