On 15 September 1940 two massive waves of German attacks were decisively repulsed by the RAF, with every single aircraft of 11 Group being used on that day. The total casualties on this critical day were 60 German and 26 RAF aircraft shot down. The German defeat caused Hitler to order, two days later, the postponement of preparations for the invasion of Britain.

This video recognises the efforts of those who flew that day.

You know, I've watched Battle of Britain twice in the last week and I still never caught the dates, or that the anniversary was coming up. Thanks for posting, nice video!

I've actually stood in front of the Battle of Britian monument in London just yesterday morning. Very impressive. Noticed a lot of fresh flowers. Good to see that "The Few" are still so well remembered. Hmmm... maybe a good time to read "Fighter Boys" again.

The Few are probably the best remembered soldiers ever!

I know it is probably controversial but I like the fact this video seems to recognise flyers on both sides of this conflict, not just the few. There is no doubt who were the aggressors, but it is politicians who start wars, and soldiers who fight them. Soldiers/airmen (and airwomen) died on both sides of the channel in this conflict and I think we can spare a thought for them all on a day like today.

Very well put Biggles. smile

I love some of the stuff I've read from Adolf Galland in the past where he mentioned how there was a real sense of mutual respect between many of the RAF and Luftwaffe pilots even though they were enemies.

Agree, days like today are for remembering the fallen no matter what flag they flew under. I've personally seen my grandfather shake the hand of a Japanese prisoner of war camp guard who he met at a reunion of guards and prisoners 40 years after the war.
