Hi all. Just a quick heads up that those TrackIR users interested in shaping potential integration in Heroes of Stalingrad should head over to this thread on the TrackIR forums. Tripwire Interactive President John Gibson has been gracious enough to open up a discussion for suggestions on how to integrate head tracking into their title.

Feel free to chime in with your requests!

Cool to see another FPS game will be using a Track IR.

Wish I had one myself. sigh

I hope they make it so server-owners can choose to disable TrackIR support! No disrespect to you nor your company, Seth.

It's just that IMO in a game like RO it could give an unfair advantage over traditional users that only has mouse+keyboard, thus I hope they make it so it's up to the owner of a server whether he wants people to be able to use TrackIR on it or not.

That's never even been close to an issue in other genres (i.e., flight sims) so why should it suddenly be a problem with FPSs?

Please don't tell me you think you can make any relation between FPSes and flight sims, incredibly different genres.

The reason is that having TrackIR does give the user that has it an advantage over those that don't, since he can still freely use mouse and keyboard but also gains an additional control method of simply using his head.

Hence why it IMO should be up to the server/host as to whether or not TrackIR should be allowed on the server, it gives an unfair advantage.

Ever tried playing an FPS with a joypad against people playing it with a mouse and keyboard? I have, both in UT3 on the PS3 and in Quake 3 on the Sega Dreamcast(which supported playing against PC users), and it gave the people with keyboards+mouse such a huge advantage it felt almost pointless to play.

Also, I don't see what harm it can cause, giving the host more control over what is and isn't allowed on his own server?

Oh well I reckon if it's not in the game at release someone will find some hack to disable TrackIR usage on their server I reckon.

Anyone who's played on any on the popular RO servers know there's always people accusing eachother of being cheaters, this will only increase with a thing like TrackIR support, hence why it should be optionable to the host of a particular server.

Simple solution: enable freelook with the mouse like ArmA and ArmA2 allows for those who aren't using TrackIR. Again, I've never seen this be an issue in either FPSs or flight sims with TrackIR support. It's not like TrackIR is some sort of huge gameplay unbalancer that causes people to call for it to be banned in online servers. Is it a nice piece of hardware to have? Certainly. Does it create an unfair advantage for those who use it? Certainly not, IMO.

I still do not whatsoever see the harm in giving the server host more control over their own servers.

But I guess you think it shouldn't be up to the server host as to whether or not TrackIR support is enabled on his server since you own a TrackIR yourself.

Anyway I've contacted the devs, hopefully I'll get a reply soon enough, I'm an avid RO player so.

A problem with free look in RO2 as opposed to ArmA/2 is that you don't have a crosshair in RO, so it would perhaps be easier to get disoriented.

Do people actually play with the cross hairs in ArmA1/2? I don't.

I am also kind of on the fence about this one.

There are already people who have an advantage with large screen monitors. Add track IR and it gets kind of annoying.

But it is a cool piece of hardware.

Hmm do you really believe its an advantage using TrackIR in playing PvP?
Im using it in Arma series for immersion but if I really want to play for
points I would NOT use TrackIr.

Dont know how its gonna work in HoS but I hope its gonna be good,
and remember this time it comes with SP too unlike RO(no I dont count
their practice mode with bots which seems to have no AI as SP).

Anyway RO is a great game, the only FPS I play regular,
I have high hopes for HoS.
