I marked the center of my trim wheels with a filed lines and then pained it with some sand in the paint. It now gives me a ruff mark to feel for center. A old army trick for scopes at night. when you want to have base sets.

I have been posting on http://forums.logitech.com/logitech/board/message?board.id=pcgaming&thread.id=2202

if you are having problems with your install for the G940 I have found a fix for about every problem that has come up so far.

If you have one that you can't fix let me know and I will look into it.

Probably been asked before (but I missed it) how does the G940 compare with the Cougar?

The main difference is the centering force of the G940 versus the tight springs of the Cougar. Unless you set centering force very high in the Logitech Game Control software, the main proprioceptive effect is that the Cougar is much stiffer (at least in stock configuration). Play also does not develop in the stick or throttle of the G940 as with the Cougar and you do not have to correct the tension problem as you do with a stock Cougar throttle. The G940 stuff is mostly tough plastic as well and the switches are plastic except in a few places. The Foxy software of the Cougar appears to be better suited to advanced scripting tasks than the G940 Profiler. The Cougar (at least in stock configuration) often suffers from workmanship factors and shoddy components (which may be prone to failure after months or years of use) where as the G940 long-term reliability is unknown at this point.

I have tried the solution DavidWA posted at the link above (including using the "Clear Calibration" tool)
over and over with both 5.06 and 5.07 and it just doesn't work for me... My Throttle calibration is still
grayed out...

Also, when I "Test" the Joystick if I click any of the buttons on the stick it will jump around like mad, vibrate,
slam around, etc... If I move the "Mini-Stick" this doesn't happen but it doesn't return to the center of the
window... It stays off center to the north-west quadrant... If I move the Hat-switch below the Mini-Stick the
main Joystick will move in the same pattern, ie; it replicates the movement of the Hat-switch...

The movement of the stick itself is NOT smooth in the least... It feels like you're grinding rocks when you
move it, except for near center where it's sloppy and loose as a goose...

I haven't been able to use this unit at all and it's really depressing me... If I've paid 300 bucks and it doesn't
get any better than this I will be royaly P-O'd...!!!

Anyone have any ideas...?

BTW, hope I haven't come on too strong on my first post... This is a very nice forum here... wave

If you want to test button function, and don't want the force effects, uncheck "Enable force feedback" in the settings, or unplug the power from the stick temporarily.

We expect to release beta software version 5.08 Friday. It changes the calibration routine to add calibration for the mini-joystick hat.

As mentioned before, the center looseness during play is due to the game software. We are working with developers to improve force implementation in games. The looseness outside games is to reduce stress on the systems when its just sitting on your desk.

Hi Mark, glad that the beta software will allow to calibrate the Microstick because as of this message, i was actually about to return the stick to ask for services or replacement as the Microstick will not stay centered.

Its very annoying to have the Microstick moving into the North-East direction when i'm not even touching the microstick.

I will wait till friday to try on the Beta. Appreciate if you can advise where we can download the beta. smile

I dont wish to end up not able to play any Sim for a few days as usually the servicing or parts replacement will takes quite a long time.

Well, to sort of answer my own question, the one BIG difference is the software. It was quite to turn an exta Cougar rotary into an axis for prop pitch, etc. The the Logitch software, that seems almost impossible, at least with any fuction that is use only increase/decrease commands, as the Logitech mapped axis will keep repeating the keystroke endlessly, instead of being able to set the number of distinct and separate presses.
