got lots of flexibility as to the motherboard etc. So please suggest any hardware you're liking...

I'll take a look! Thanks.

I'm looking for something high end, but not Alienware-second mortgage high end.

Cheers,

I purchased a I7 940 based gaming rig from Cyberpower just this past March--also with Vista 64 bit, but no upgrade to Win7 since it was not available, and I went with an NVidia GT285 single card. I ordered the dual processor GT295 card, but they were out of stock everywhere at the time so I took the 285 instead.

Bottom line is that I got a great rig at a price slightly less than pricing the components individually---not to mention having it built with a bumper to bumper warranty. It is still running strong and I was more than pleased with Cyberpower's quick delivery and service.

One thing to try is to create your build a couple of times using different pre-packaged systems as starting points. You may be surprised to find that you may end up with slightly different total prices each time---even though you alter the build to exactly the same components. The benefit for you is that you get to use the lowest one you come up with.

An associate at Cyberpower told me that it all has to do with when and how the different pre-configured package were created and that it's just not worth the effort for them eliminate the price discrepancies in most cases.

Good Luck

I agree with Forward Observer. I've been configuring machines at both IBUYPOWER and Cypberpower for the past year in preparation for a new machine. Configure the same machine as close as you can through their different packages. For example configure one straight from their corei7 machine then configure it the same exact way through their "weekly gamer special"(IBP) or "mega special"(CP). Both of these specials from both sites start these packages with the corei7 as well. I have found so far that often times the specials automatically include some specs that otherwise I would have to add which then starts affecting the cost more. For example the specials may already include an 800watt power supply and a set of subwoofer and speakers and perhaps even a special deal on a graphics card.

I'm hoping to get a new computer through either of these sites, it just depends on who has the best deal at the time.

what is the difference, btw, between cyberpower and ibuypower? their websites are similar, prices and products are similar, even the company names sound similar....

I don't know. I think they are just two different companies that offer the same kind of online computer building service.
