Ok, since the Steelers and Titans have played everyone starts out with one win.

Here are the games and my predictions. I will try to keep up each week and will tabulate the ongoing scores.

Couple of rules: With the exception of today all predictions must be in place two hours before the kickoff of the first game. Late entries will not be counted. Maybe if I can get some support we can possibly get some kind of cool prize out of Doug for the winner. No promises but we will see what happens.

OK, WEEK ONE GAMES (my predictions)

Tennesee Titans @ Pittsburg Steelers Pittsburg

Dallas Cowboys @ Tampa Bay Buccaniers Dallas

Denver Broncos @ Cincinnati Bengals Broncos

Detroit Lions @ New Orleans Saints Saints

Jacksonville Jaguars @ Indianapolis Colts Colts

Kansas City Chiefs @ Baltimore Ravens Ravens

Miami Dolphins @ Atlanta Falcons Dolphins

Minnesota Vikings @ Cleveland Browns Vikings

New York Jets @ Houston Texans Texans

Philadelphia Eagles @ Carolina Panthers Panthers

San Francisco 49ers @ Arizona Cardinals 49ers

St. Louis Rams @ Seattle Seahawks SeaHawks

Washington Redskins @ New York Giants Redskins

Chicago Bears @ Green Bay Packers Bears

Buffalo Bills @ New England Patriots Patriots

San Diego Chargers @ Oakland Raiders Chargers

Lets see what happens.

I left out the Steelers - Titans game

Dallas Cowboys @ Tampa Bay Buccaniers Dallas

Denver Broncos @ Cincinnati Bengals Bengals

Detroit Lions @ New Orleans Saints Saints

Jacksonville Jaguars @ Indianapolis Colts Colts

Kansas City Chiefs @ Baltimore Ravens Ravens

Miami Dolphins @ Atlanta Falcons Falcons

Minnesota Vikings @ Cleveland Browns Vikings

New York Jets @ Houston Texans Texans

Philadelphia Eagles @ Carolina Panthers Panthers

San Francisco 49ers @ Arizona Cardinals Cards

St. Louis Rams @ Seattle Seahawks SeaHawks

Washington Redskins @ New York Giants Redskins

Chicago Bears @ Green Bay Packers Packers

Buffalo Bills @ New England Patriots Patriots

San Diego Chargers @ Oakland Raiders Chargers

There are quite a few dysfunctional teams this year. Althought I picked Arizona over San Fran, I think San Fran is going to be the most improved team this year. Another team I feel that will make some really good strides is KC. I really like Todd Haley as a Head Coach. He is one of those no nonsense guys who doesn't have a problem telling any player what he things, no matter the players status. I have seen him put big name players in their place as a Coordinator. People are expecting a lot from Chicago because of the new QB, but I just don't see it. I think they are going to be one of the let down teams. Another team I think that is over rated is Philly. Lots of injuries on the O Line right now and while I think McNabb is a great QB, he lets the little crap get to him mentally and Vick will end up hurting him in this regard in the long run.

That's fine. We may just make this week a gimme. Last year someone else came up with it and I noticed last night that no one did it this year.

Lets start next week.

Yeah, I'll play next week too. Maybe guod's fancy website has a "form" we could mod to fill out with our weekly picks.

ps Tom, checked your picks and since you picked the phins to win you obviously know nothing about football....

I went 8-5 so far, so it's not to bad. Denver beat Cinncinnati on a fluke play, but a loss is still a loss. I should have gone with my gut on the San Fran game. Their defense really impressed me yesterday. Like I said in my original post, San Fran is going to be the most improved team this year and I do think they will win their division. Singletary is a good head coach and will be able to get his team to play above their heads.

I had a feeling that Cutler is going to sink like a rock. He's probably the most overrated QB out there right now. After seeing the highlights of the Carolina game, I am going to add them to my list of dysfuntional teams. The teams I think that are dysfunctional this year are....

Carolina
Oakland (surprise)
Denver
Cleveland
Cinncinnati
Buffalo
Washington (even though I am a Skins fan)

Deceptis, FYI looks like we might not be counting this week since it was posted on such short notice. Thats if I understand Tom anyways.

It won't count this week since it was short notice. I will keep track for those of us that did play but it won't count for anything else.

The Dolphins are at home so I think they have a decent shot of beating Indy.

I pick the New Orleans Saints to go all the way and win the Super Bowl.
Now if I only had the nerve to lay a bet on it in Vegas.

Me too.
I've been a Dolphins fan since the Bob Griese, Larry Czonka, Jim Kiick, Mercury Morris, Nat Moore, Nick Buoniconti years
I remember watching them during their perfect season.

Anybody know if newspapers still publish the "line" on NFL games? The USA Today fishwrap used to do that, and including college games. It was a straight up line with the home team typically getting 3 points to start with. Our newspaper here wouldn't hear of such a thing, why that's aiding and abetting gambling!

I had an utterly crappy football weekend. Both the Dolphins and the Hurricanes lost.

Sorry to hear that Panzer.
The big shock for me today was Brett pulling the rabbit out of his rear for the Vikings to win.

So much for the theory from some people that Brett Favre couldn't play well anymore...

It's only the 3rd game of the season. I still think he should have stayed retired. Time will tell on this one.

Of course, but I'm fickle.

Seriously, I've always been a Bears fan. Dunno why, never lived there. But I have known several NFL players (previously UA Wildcats) who have played there. Including current LB Lance Briggs, whom I did not know, but have watched play for many years.

As for the Cards, I love the QB. Always have, he's just a class act. It's the Phoenix vs. Tucson thing that gets in the way.

I have to agree with you on this one. I couldn't believe he chose to go for it on 4th down again. Everyone and thier mother knew he was going to try to run behind Samuels and Dockery. He should have just taken the 3 points. After the failure, the Skins went flat and Detroit moved the ball 99 yards to score. He did the same thing against the Rams.

Really poor choices.

Giants @ Chiefs= NY - Giants, Lock
Jets @ Saints= NY - This will a close one, Field Goal. Go Jets!!!
Ravens @ Pats=NE - Another close one, Brady will manage to pull off a win.
Bucs @ Skins=Tampa - Its time, for the Bucs to get "w" in their belt, at the expense of the skins
Titans @ Jaguars=Tennessee - The titans have to be pissed off
Raiders @ Texans=Houston - Texans will get their win at home, bad defense
Lions @ Bears=Chicago- Time for Jay Cutler will earn his stripes in Chi-town with a 'w'
Bills @ Dolphins=Buffalo-No Brainer, even with T.O's Big Mouth.
Seahawks @ Colts=Indy- Manning, Best QB in the Game.
Cowboys @ Broncos=Denver-Boys have too many issues to deal with.
Rams @ 49ers=San Fran- 49ers look 100% better than last year.
Chargers @ Steelers=Pitt- big ben, big game
Packers @ Vikings=Greenbay- Packers will finally get the chance to shut Brett Farve up

OK, here we are at week four. The scores so far, for those that have played.

I think to win you will have to have a minimum of 10 picks in the pool to count. The more you put in, the better you may fare in the event of a poor week.

Right now:

Tom Cofield: 23/32 (stong 2nd week with 14/16 picks: 72%
Deceptis: 18/32 56%
20mm: 18/32 56%
Grim Death: 18/32 56%
Wheelsup/cavu: 17/32: 53%

Airdop, gallycadet and Spidey all have checked in with one set of pics. Airdop was 6/16, Gally was 11/16 as was spidey.

Get those picks in.

Ghost, picking against the Raiders? For shame! (I know, I did too)

Here's a different tack, now that it's almost game time, which one game do you consider a die hard lock?

I'd say Da Bears! Uh oh, there goes the jinx waves..

Yeah, I picked against them. They've won as many as they're going to this year, I'm afraid. frown

I don't really blame Romo for that loss. I mean, he put the ball right in the reciever's hands three times near the end of the game. Too bad it was dropped every time.

Well, Brett can still throw the football. I just read that he's the first quarterback in history to have beaten all 32 NFL teams.

9 and 5. Better than I was doing but not by much. A dart throwing monkey could get more than 50%. Wonder where I can get one of those?

Looks like Favre is shutting up the skeptics so far this season.

Yes he is but I am curious how he will be playing from week 10 forward.
His arm is still fresh right now.

I gotta admit, I was one of those who was wishing he'd just stay retired. I got tired of the weepy I'm done, now I'm back, I'm done, now I'm back routine. But last night he was impressive to say the least. And no INT's.

12-2, another good week. I really thought he Chargers would have played better than they did.

Favre has always been impressive but credit the poor pass rush of Green Bay or the great O line play of Minnesota. You can't let Brett Favre stand back there for 5-8 seconds and not have him pick your defense apart. They put everything in staying back and hold AP to small yardage which worked but it allowed Favre to pick them apart.

The Vikings sure did go after Aaron Rodgers though didn't they. 8 sacks, that is impressive. Rodgers will be lucky to make it to week 8 at the rate he is going. Green Bay has given up something like 25 sacks so far this year. That is just downright painful.

Jets vs. Fins: Jets

Out of the 13 games, I went 8 and 5. Consistency is my hallmark.

Sigh.

A good game if you like suspense. I like the Dolphins and the Jets so I was happy either way but it was a real shoot out at the end of the 4th.

Sanchez' hail Mary looked like he was trying to put it in orbit. Everyone was growing old waiting for it to come down.

I think I may just start picking all the home teams. Even Detroit. Except for Da Bears, I'll pick them home or away.

If you look at this week, most of the home teams lost. I always try to pick a couple of upsets. I just picked the wrong ones again.

Ok, here we are at this point.

I'm still leading at 41/60 (68%)
GallyCadet is right behind me at 29/43 (67%). I have picked on game more than him.
WheelsUp is 36/60 for 60%
GrimDeath is 36/59 for 61% (some forgot the monday night game last week)
20mm is up to 59% at 35/59
Deceptis is at 35/60 and 58%

Airdrop has only one pick at 6/16
Spidey has one pick and is 11/16
Ghost has one pick at 11/14
Heat has one pic at 9/14

Remember we should have at least 10 out of the total 17 weeks picks to be in to count this as 'official'.

Once you get more than one set of picks in you get a percentage and are in competition.

Week 6 for me:

St. Louis @ Jacksonville Jacksonville
Kansas City @ Washington Redskins
Houston @ Cincinnati Bengals
Baltimore @ Minnesota Baltimore
Detroit @ Green Bay Packers
Cleveland @ Pittsburgh Steelers
Carolina @ Tampa Bay Carolina
NY Giants @ New Orleans Giants
Arizona @ Seattle Seattle
Philadelphia @ Oakland Eagles
Buffalo @ NY Jets Jets
Tennessee @ New England Pats
Chicago @ Atlanta Chicago
Denver @ San Diego Denver

Taking a Chance on the Giants and the Bears going into New Orleans and Atlanta but I think both of those games could be taken by the visiting team.

New England beat Tennessee 59-0?

Brady had 6 TDs in the 2nd quarter and the 1st posession of the 3rd quarter. Titans played the Pats tight in the first quarter and were only behind 7 - 0. They coudn't hold onto the ball. Fumbled, dropped passes and interceptions decimated them. The Pats capitalizing on the errors and thus destroyed any resolve the Titans had.

This is the same Titans that were 13 - 3 last year and gave the Steelers a hell of a fight in the season opener. I'd hate to be a Tenn fan scratching your head trying to figure it out.

DANG FARVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When's he gonna prove everyone right? dammit!

Ugh 7-6 so far this week. I did have a feeling the Skins would lose to KC this week though. The sad part is now the Skins are moving to the tough part of the schedule and playing the NFC East teams. 2-4 already. I could see a 2-14 season or 3-13 now.

Time to start looking forward to the draft. Oh hell, who am I kidding, they will probably draft another cornerback with the first selection and ignore the O-Line again.

Ditto, 7 and 6. Horrible. Well, let's evaluate. My football acumen strategy has failed miserably. The "at home" strategy failed miserably. The NFL dartboard strategy failed miserably. What's left? The artificial versus natural turf strategy?

I'm doomed.

And if those idiots has been able to keep ahold of the ball in the red zone they would have won that game quite easily.

Pretty lousy ball security the Bears had.

11-3 for me this week.

Two fumbles in the redzone were not the reason the Bears lost, there was more to it than just those two plays. Also, give my Falcons some credit, look at the fumble plays, our guys put helmet to ball, great plays.

Actually no. They were ranked #10 before they botched it against Clemson.

On a happier note, my UA Wildcats are in the top 25 AP poll for the first time since 2000. Number 25, but we'll take it. And, we have a bye week this week so I don't think we'll drop out.

lol, yeah there is that possibility. I'm just out of ideas on how to get past the 50% barrier. So I'm down to stealing other people's picks. A new low.

Will have the updated totals later today.

Did ok this week. Bears got crushed, figures. Depending on the scores from last weeks games (where everyone did poorly) Wheels may be the new leader.

I would say until Sunday morning, an hour before the first game starts is reasonable.

Can't pick against the Dirty Birds. Probably not the smart pick but the Falcons have the talent and coaching to win that game, they just can't make any mistakes.

Yeay, the Dolphins won.

I see Tampa Bay is the last remaining winless team in the NFL.

The Jets seemed to have had the Dolphins number the past few years.
I thought that was a safe pick.

7-5 so far this week,
I hope the Saints wins...

More pain and agony. I think this time I'll make every pick the way I think it should be, and then reverse them all.

I realized my instincts for the game suck, so I figured whatever the opposite of my instincts are must be good!

They may find my lack of faith... disturbing but it was well placed.

Five interceptions. FIVE #*&^+@@$ interceptions. What kind of effing idiot throws five interceptions in one damned game.

God.

I hereby reverse my Bears pick and go with the Foreigners.

Aw shoot, I'm off the Bears bandwagon and I'll jump on board with the Iggles. Vick's not such a bad guy, he did say he was sorry. I think.

Me too. 8 picks so far with a chance for 9 tonight. Picking for spite has worked better than anything else I've done.

Oh, and I'm off the Iggles too. Michael Vick is a SOB.

Way to go Redskins....

The only thing you got going for you this year was a high draft pick next year and the fact that you haven't traded away your #1 #2 and #3 picks for another aging bum like Jason Taylor....way to go ruin your draft standing by winning a game when you have no chance to make even a peep in the playoff race.

Stupid Redskins

Ok, here are the totals so far. Hopefully I got everything right.

20mm is at 55% correct (70/126 picks)

Jeevz only has two picks in but he is 19/28 with a 67% correct rating. He needs to get a few more picks in before we can call him the leader though.

I have 66% correct right now with a pic level of 84/128 correctly picked.

Wheels is at 78/128 with a 61% correct rating.

Gally is right behind me at 65% (62/96) but needs one more set of picks in to be considered 'official)

Grim Death has 64% correct at 73/114.

Deceptis is at 60% correct with 77/128 correct so far.

Others have made pics but haven't kept up. This is looking pretty close so far.

Oh lordy, another chance to embarrass myself. Let's see, what do I have left in the bag of tricks? So far, I have:

Used my best guess. Result: FAIL

Used my best guess and then reversed them. Result: FAIL

Copied other people's picks who were clearly better than me. Result: FAIL

Tried the NFL Pick 'Em dartboard. Result: FAIL

Employed the "Pick for Spite" method. Result: FAIL

Bag's empty, I got nothing left. No, wait! There's always the "Pick the Home Team" method. OK, I'll try that.

I kind of feel the same way. The problem is, is that Dallas was embarassed last week and they are going to be pissed. Washington won one and is probably feeling pretty confident. Add that Dallas is at home and I just don't see this one even being close. The one caveat is if the Skins are able to put a lot of pressure on Romo with Rak and Carter and Haynesworth pushing hard up the middle. It's going to come down to the lines of both teams. I don't think the Skins O Line can protect Campbell this week. I expect lots of sacks for both teams.
