I have a problem installing the longbow gold dfx patch - goldfxa.exe ....

I have an ATI 4890 and well...the patch simply states that it can't find a Voodoo card and aborts...unable to detect Voodoo

I've read that many people here got it running with the patch...could someone help to achieve this?

Software mode works fine

I run on either win xp or win 7 ultimate...

Can someone else please upload the files???

Okay, I installed the glide wrapper zeck...

And now the patch found a Voodoo card and installed....But for the live of Jesus....I can't get it running in 3dfx mode...

Any help?

This is all a known problem that has yet to have a fix found for it.

Sorry, I don't think you'll have any luck. Software mode is the only sure way of playing it.

How are you running LB Gold? With the DOS or Win exe?

After some more tweaking I got it running in 3dfx, but I have flickering of the cockpit and sky on higher resolutions....

Can I manually edit an ini file for the sky texture, so that it isn't there?

I'm running it in win exe format....

You shouldn't need to edit any INI files to turn the sky off. Just access the options screen (Alt-O) and turn off textured sky or whatever it's called.

It should be possible to run in 3DFX mode through DOS, but I'm not totally sure.

Many of us here have had problems getting the Windows exe version to run on new systems (WinXP, Vista, 7) without some sort of crash. How did you manage it?

In Longbowgold you don't have that option after you applied the 3dfx patch...

Running it crash free is not achieved as of yet, maybe 15 minutes....

Still testing....

And the flickering of the cockpit is #%&*$# to say the least...

Oh, I didn't know that the sky option wasn't there after installing the 3DFX patch. You also don't get to fly the AH-64A model, do you?

Look in the CA.INI file and search for the word 'sky'. If you find it and there is a number 1 next to it and it looks something like this...

sky=1

... change it to 0, so it goes...

sky=0

Do it for all entries (there may be more than one). Save, then have a look at the game.

Regarding the flickering cockpit, try pressing F1 a couple of times. This essentially redraws the current view (cockpit in this case) and may stop the flickering. This technique has worked for me in LB2 before now.

I allmost have LBGold running in 3DFX mode in Vista X64.

Installed the game.
Installed the Zeckenzack wrapper (in order to apply the goldfx-patch).
Uninstalled Zeckenzack wrapper (otherwise the game will never launch regardless of what compat-mode I use).
Copied the degevoodoo 1.50 files into the game directory.
Set Degevoodoo up with the same settings we use in LB2.
Set lbwin.exe to WinXP SP2 compatibility mode (the only mode that runs the game for me).

Intro video (and all others?) are skipped. All menus work fine. All mission types (training, campaigns, historical missions etc) starts.
I can allmost play the game. 2D cockpit (F1-F3) looks fine, but that is also all....
3D world is completely black with one grey polygon at random locations on the screen and the MFDs and HMD is flashing synchronously on and off (most of the time off). The flashing HMD and MFDs could be refresh related, but the black terrain has me a little worried.
Anyone else made any more progress on LB1 and wrappers?

Shadow? Is it you? Of our storied LB2 flights long ago? Or another,similarly named? Hope you are well - and that you solve this 3Dfx challenge. LB has a good campaign , maybe better than LB2. Would be great to fly it again in a half decent looking display. Good luck!

Yeah, I've been absent from these forums for quite some time, but when I saw that Ivonq was able to apply the 3dfx patch when the Zecken-wrapper was installed I got curious again.
