Hummmm, Mike - Stelto mistook you for Ade - isn´t that praise enough? biggrin
Anyway - wonderful machines thumbsup
Can somebody explain me the thingy about the darkgreen and olive drab camos? Are these different colours or different interpretations? You know, I´m always curious about camos wink
Don´t you want to skin some 1st series P47s HV-x - those without bars? I like those early jugs very much - without the aggressive markings and emblems they look so - innocent...
Thx a lot band

Greetings

Fran

Hi Fran Zee.

I'll take a shot at explaining.

The factory fresh colour used was quite dark olive Green, but the effects of weather, and Sun, have the effect of making it go Matt, and lighten the Olive Green. Over time, the UV rays of the Sun can change colours completely. That is why, if you look at some of the paint samples, no two will be the same. Maybe paint hidden under the wing root trim, and other small areas will remain unaltered, but any exposed surface will vary.

Skinners then are faced with trying to mimic this aging effect in the skins and profiles they produce. wink

Simply fading of camo colours? Interesting.
Interesting the change to a yellowish green. Reminds me of the fading processes of Luftwaffe colours RLM 70/71 which are hardly discernible after some years of service.

Thx for the explanation thumbsup

It's a funny fact that Green can go Blue, Black, or Yellowish Green, depending on conditions. Then if you add in the mix of colours used in camos, you can grasp the problem.

I'll always remember the argument about Brunswick Green. When we repainted a loco in Precision Paints, a manufacture of exact repro paints.

Anyway, repainted the loco, rolled it out of the paint shed, only to receive lots of comments that the colour was far too light, That's not the right colour, who ordered the wrong colour, and so on.

Guess what. After about 3 weeks in service, and cleaning with a traditional oily rag, we started to get comments that the engine looked superb, and the colour was spot on!

So, who was right? biggrin
