I have loads of patience for a product like this one.

To me, the huge size and detail of the map (assuming the accounts I have read are correct) may make IL-2 my favorite simulation -- even after SoW:BoB.

In a nutshell, what is the difference between the two Maps? Does one emphsize buildings/objects more than the other? Accuracy of airfield layout? Effect on framerates when flying large missions? etc? The Canon English Channel map has just been released a week ago and has been very well received. Is it likely that both maps would be useful, for different experiences/purposes?

Just curious...I am looking forward to release of this "Other Channel Map" enthusiastically.

Here's a 40 second vid clip of a Paris landmark...

Will this Other Channel map cover Northern France as well as Channel adjacent area? EDIT: Found the answer over at the 352 Site...."The "English Channel" map by CanonUk is 115500 square kilometers and covers essentailly the same area - less of England north of RAF Mildenhall and more of France south of Paris..."

I think the main difference is scale.

Thanks for the clip Doolittle. We took an entirely different approach to our map so you will not find many similarities at all between the two except for the area covered. These are 2 completely different maps. We went with the 1:1 scale because we wanted it as close to real time as possible and we are paying very very close attention to frame rates and how we lay everything out. Thanks again for the comments and your enthusiasm, we are working hard to ensure it's justified. WinkNGrin

Best regards,

That makes me think: Is there already a fully modeled Lanc or Fortress? I know you can fly the Fortress when you have the AAA mod but the interior is borrowed from another model IIRC.

Goodies from all over the planet and two WWs.

No B17 but there have been some improvements to her from modders.

352ndBooze,
On the excellent CannonUK map the airfields are plates instead of textures - except for a few. Also, the hangars cannot be parked in.

I'm not trying to denigrate CannonUK's map nor contrast/compare with yours - just an observation that I've made and I'm hoping your airfields are going to be textured and hangars useable as it makes excellent play for virtual squadrons to taxi and prepare for takeoff in a more realistic world.

Looking forward to your map.
Cheers.

Hi Catseye thanks for your observations, we have no plated airfields at all. We tested that earlier on and went in a different direction.

Also we were enlightened to the import export of new models late in the game so we are currently catching up and building them from scratch. Our intention is to make them usable, however this first map is mostly done and it will depend upon when we finish the models v. when we release the first map. And if not they will be usable in the late War Map. WinkNGrin

Booze cheers

From a recently completed and approved airfield in occupied France, circa 1940:
