Those are some pretty lofty expectations there. I have no doubt that Avatar will be good but I usually try to keep modest expectations when I go see a new film. I just hate ending up being disappointed!

When I went to go see the latest Star Trek movie I had to force myself to have modest expectations even though I was very excited to see it.

The scenes from the trailer that took place on the planet, and some on the ship, had a very CG feel to me, almost "Final Fantasy" looking. Kinda disappointing to me.

I'll reserve my judgment on the film until I see it opening weekend. My take on this issue is that you just never know. A lot of people and critics alike were saying that there was "no audience" for District 9 but they were all proved wrong.

Interesting blurb here from IMDB,

James Cameron Previews “Avatar”
22 August 2009 9:35 AM, PDT

Audiences attending worldwide screenings of a 16-minute preview of James Cameron’s Avatar applauded enthusiastically Friday night. The reaction was in stark contrast to the mixed reaction that a two-minute trailer received when it was posted online a day earlier. A common reaction then was that the movie looked more like a videogame than a movie and such being the case, “I’d rather play it than watch it,” in the words of one online viewer. The trailer has been posted on numerous websites, including the movie’s “official” site. »

Story line looks solid. Will be interested what it looks like on the big screen.Trailers are good but the big screen experience sells it to me.

ditto!

Avatar is definitely a film I would like to see initially at an IMAX theater. Release date says to be 18 December for Chicagoland.

"Avatar: An IMAX 3D Experience will be digitally re-mastered into the unparalleled image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience® through proprietary IMAX DMR® technology. With crystal clear images, laser-aligned digital sound and maximized filed of view, IMAX provides the world's most immersive movie experience."

Yes the movie looks pretty promising.
Has anyone else tried the demo of the game? Graphics are just beautiful, but gameplay is pretty slow and tedious, to me anyway. Very looking forward to the movie, though!

Just tried the Demo, WOW is an understatement. Visually stunning, gameplay not unlike Far Cry. More then made up for though with the incredible graphics in HD. Night time is like
going into a dream. But just as deadly. Everything on this planet wants you dead.

Same here. Yes the expectations and hype are high but I think this will be a good film regardless.

good for you! Please post your comments about the gameplay! Will you be able to play the game immediately after downloading? if so, are you concerned about the game giving away any spoilers of the Avatar film?

Still waiting on my download links, pre-payed on Ubisoft store and they charged my credit card on Nov. 27th. Already complained on the Ubisoft Avatar forums. Seems the Gamestop and other retailers
have it in store and are selling. Kinda pissed off about it.

Here is the PDF game instruction Manual

Gives you an idea what you are doing in single player mode. Its intense and can be stressful.

Ouch, if you decide make ingame videos of Avatar and upload them to Youtube, think again. Just tried and it was flagged and removed before I could finish getting it ready.

I have another way, should be soon.

Remember, these are just in game video clips put together showing what character you are. You have a choice of 12 different male or female body`s to use as you.

Still working on in game action video. Much harder to work with since you are always
fighting for your life from being eaten by Vyperwolves that infest this planet.

The game is not horrible but I am not a huge fan of third person shooters. It feels like a game that would have been awesome if it had not been a movie.

The movie, on the other hand, looks cool. smile

I've always felt the same way with the one exception being Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. That worked well in third person view.

So far I have advanced far enough into the game to decide what faction I am going to support. The Navi
of course. But one thing bad about that is, getting my but kicked. Once you get to the point where you
must pick a side. The real fighting begins. More like re-spawn every couple minutes since you are dead
again.

More like I don`t think I will be advancing anymore since deciding the Navi were worth supporting. And
like the movie trailer says. They are hard to kill is an understatement, but learning how to fight like
one is even tougher.

Started a new game and am going to pick the RDA and see how much different the game play is. Since
that is basically where you start and are more familiar with the weaponry and vehicles.

Yeah the game is pretty much a waste of money. I have gone no where since joining the Navi and in
my second game choose the RDA. Equally just as hard. I am no FPS pro, get my @ss handed back to me
every time I turn around. Always have more then 10 to 20 shooters at you once.

Unless they release some game cheats, this game will fail.

The Movie is what I want to concentrate on now. I can`t wait.

Not to be Mr. Negative, but every clip I've seen of this looks like a video game more than a movie.

And...unobtainium? - I hope that's explained in the movie as a joke name or something.

The movie gets three thumbs up from me. Easily the best CGI (human actors are real) I've seen. This was also the first 3D movie I've seen in like 20 years. Things have changed biggrin

yes. 3d is getting big again with new circular polarization technology and digital projection. All of Pixar film's will now be in 3D. The first 3d film of this kind which I saw was "Journey to the Center of the Earth". I have seen "Monster's vs Aliens" and "Up" in 3D also.

BTW, Did you know the original "Creature from the Black Lagoon" was in 3d in the cinema with the old red-blue glasses?

I finally saw the IMAX 3D version of AVATAR this afternoon. Overall, I rate it a solid 7.5/10. The effects were fantastic and the 3D graphics were well done and not overused. I thought the film could have been a little more creative with the storyline. Overall, the film is as good as I expected.

Saw the movie this weekend and enjoyed it. While I have to admit the storyline was a bit of a rehash on Dances with Wolves, I was willing to overlook it as I thought the pros outweighed the cons. If I had the chance I would see it again and I already told the wife we are buying the special edition DVD when it comes out.

So, AVATAR has finally dethroned Titanic as the most grossing (unadjusted) movie of all time, worldwide. Way to go, Mr Cameron.

It should be noted those are only domestic figures. Worldwide numbers might paint another picture.
