Hi Uther - what a coincidence - I looked at this thread yesterday to wonder if it had been updated. Glad to hear you are okay. Please post some pictures of lovely Mifflin.

I had a nice flight out of Camden last weekend in what looked like marginal conditions, but which turned out to be quite flyable once I got up there. Club's ASK-21 flown solo (I am still working on the requirements to convert to the Junior single seater) for 1 hour and 8 minutes. I only had to come down because there was another guy wanting to fly it.

Three to 4 knot thermals with some going to 5-6. Visibility not that good (bit hazy) so grateful for the Flarm.

The airstrip from a bit under 3,000 feet. It was hazy day.

Trying to be the cool and collected pilot

But actually feeling like this!

Thermalling

The Flarm going off - for those who may not have heard of this, it's a device that detects and warns you of other gliders and aircraft that are also fitted with Flarms. It's telling me there's a glider at my 11 o'clock and a bit higher than me. And no, I couldn't see it either.

I'm buying a much better compact camera to post some better shots and some videos in future and retiring my old 3 megapixel Nikon. My logger's battery ran out too, so I couldn't get a Google Earth trace...

a few photos from bovec in august. it was my first (and probably last) flight this year frown.

view of the bovec valley with the soca river (the bridge scene in the chronicles of narnia: prince caspian was filmed there :))

the other side of the valley:

one crappy airplane wink (it was covered wingtip to wingtip, nose to tail with bird crap. how'd they managed to do that is beyond me.):

edit: apparently the forum software doesn't recognize non-ascii characters...

Literally just got back from Mifflin after a horrendous tropical depression hit us.

Got to meet Tom Knauff and Dorris at their club during the deluge.

All in all had a great week with ridge, thermal and wave.

My friend running Jack's mountain

Me and a friend about to fly aerobatics in a RV-4 (I'm in the back seat)

nope. all are still grounded. as are all of our club's gliders (well, the ones not owned by the club, anyway). damn politicians and their bickering. a paved runway was built before the season started but there was hardly any flying done. horse races - yes. flying - practically nothing frown.

Uther - the Blaniks are still grounded here too, even those with the Llewellyn mod. Lovely shots from Mifflin, I'd love to fly there. I get Tom Knauff's email newsletters, which are always interesting.

I was duty pilot for my club this weekend and had the unhappy task of calling flying off at 8.00 am. The strip had an inch of rain and soon after a NOTAM was issued closing our grass strips. I have a week's leave coming up, during which I was planning to some serious flying. However, the weather forecast looks terrible right across Australia...

Apparently LET is suggesting an Eddy-Current Test for the spar issue

Rumor has it that this will satisfy the FAA and be approved in February
