I used that guide and game still having major performance issues... frame rate is all over place and there is severe lag spikes.

I used it (again, after several years), and it worked superbly - again. Much smoother performance, increased fps. The bonus is that using his nHancer settings has improved graphics performance and appearance of a few other sims. And solved a significant previously insoluble problem with the new ArmA 2: tnear distance trees and shrubs were uniformly a sickly whitish grey regardless of nVidia card and in game settings. The FSX settings for nHancer corrected this problem - and improved frame rates.

It is basically the same info but all in one spot. I used to have the multiple links in my Favs folder also until this one link panned out to be the best one stop shop.

It might help zero in on some help, if you'd post your system specs.
FWIW Mine is a very first generation purpose built FSX machine that is for the most part all 2+ year old hardware. By using the tweaks from that post I have no complaints about how FSX performs or looks on this aging system. smile

If you're offering.

I have
i7 920
6gigs of ddr3
280gtx
running on Win7

Game is running at 1080p rez

Basic install of FSX following by SP1 and then SP2. Modified fsx.cfg as per guide. Some of options / lines were missing so I manually copied / pasted into my config required additions.

How many add-ons do you have? Which add-ons? If you fly, for example, Vancouver+ you will get a huge framerate hit. Or Aerosoft's F-16. Other add-ons as well. Or if you have a lot of different add-ons in your folders.

There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the universe is for it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more inexplicable.
There is another theory which states that this has already happened.

Just looking at your .cfg, the two things I would try to play with first would be that FPS locked limit your using. If you already haven't tried it, use a setting around 30-32 and see if that changes anything. Then try the FPS lock at "Unlimited". There was a point in time where higher than neccesary locked FPS rates were creating big fluctuations in FPS rate. FSX should look great and fly smoothly in the 30-32 range and at least worth a test try.

The other setting I would experiment with is the Bufferpool entry. I would take that out completely while trying the FPS lock tests.

You've got a lot of power in that system and just have to find the bottle neck.

Thank you for the reply. I removed bufferpool entree and changed fps to unlimited. Game still experiences studder. FPS would show 70+ and then change to 50 - 20 - 60- 50 - 20 while game experiences light freezes. That is when I'm on a runway just trying to take off in none populated area.

Is there anything else I can do?

I turned off light bloom, advanced animation Directx10. No AA.

No traffic

Special details - low

what else can I do to remove micro-stutter?

My system is more than enough to run thing thing...

I know this isn't much help at this point, but with that hardware you listed you shouldn't be having to turn all those features off or to lower settings to eliminate stuttering. Specially if you didn't see any improvement after you changed all that.

Earlier when we you were playing with the FPS settings you mentioned trying it at "Unlimited". Have you tried locking it down around the 25-30 FPS mark to see what happens.

FSX performance is almost completely determined by your CPU strength and it's thru put. Given the power of that system of yours it may come down to trying to figure out which of the components aren't in tune with each other.

IMO The bottom line is that if your having to turn down all the settings inside FSX and still can't fly smoothly then that would lead me to start thinking that one or more pieces of your hardware are either not in sync or not quite set up correctly. There might be a simple mhz bottle neck somewhere.

* RAM: Windows XP SP2 - 256MB, Windows Vista – 512MB
* Hard Drive: 14GB
* Video Card: 32MB DirectX 9 compatible
* Other: DX9 hardware compatibility and audio board with speakers and/or headphones
