This series is one of the most underrated strategy games ever. The concept still is excellent and it's a great series. That the graphics are dated now - I don't really care, they are efficient and that is good enough.

I don't think that there are many wargamers that underrate the CM series.

That is a peculiar notion- and wargames before then were never known to have purdy graphics and sounds, they were abstract 2-D hex/grid maps. It was the wargame-lite Panzer General (without any coherent sense of scale or organization) that succeeded to pave way into a broader market- since then popular wargames are typically of the RTS clickfests, but Combat Mission even today is prettier than 'hardcore' turn-based two dimensional counters and map symbols.

This is probably the finest WarGame ever produced for the PC. IMO its the AdvancedSquadLeader (ASL) of the computer world. Its a game that takes an intense amount of time to play well. Look it at a computerized board game. Truly an amazing piece of work. The amount of time I have put into playing CMAK and CMBB against a coworker of mine is mindnumbing at this point. I believe that the majority of (board) wargamers are much more "hardcore" than the majority of PC gamers. This is a game that even they gove props to.

Don't let the graphics fool you - there is a whole lot under the hood...
