Hello ALL

I have sought an answer to this question of frustration on the ROFF forum to no avail. So I will ask it at my "home" site of SimHQ.

When I go into the flight training section, I am welcomed by Mr. Rickenbacker, or call me Ed. He speaks clearly and distinctly.

Then I choose a training lesson and all breaks down. The speech breaks down into a stuttering so bad that the dialog is incomprensible. Is this being addressed as a technical PATCH that will be embedded (unknowingly) when I launch the product at some time or WILL I KNOW IN ADVANCE?

I have even received a Personal Message or PM at the ROF site asking if I have ever received a response to my frequent rantings about dislocated speech and the stuttering during training.

HELP

I got it as well in the first training mission. I saw posts from several people who did. Strangely it was not as bad on the second mission, then by the third it all seemed to play ok. (Eddie still sounds 'choppy' but I think that is just the quality of the audio track.)

I have not heard of a patch for this, but I am sure it is on the "to do" list somewhere.

Thank you "West Wales". I am heartened to learn that it is not the result of my puny system trying to drive a fast car. My drivers are up to date (now) and I have been receiving via PM and here directly the complaint that the problem is general. Given the wealth of documentation that accompanies the game, I wish they would improve the speech integrity. Training may be just training, but it gives valuable insight into the workings of the game.

Yet it could be system dependant. I have solved a similar frame and sound stuttering problem with other programs on my system. I will first go to DxDiag and set the sound acceleration to no higher than BASIC. If necessary and if this "fix" does not solve all problems, I will tinker with the compatibility of the main executable commencing at WIN98.
I did try this with ROF, but it failed miserably....at least on my system.

After extensive testing, I've concluded that you cannot select both "Antialiasing" and "Post effects". It has to be one, or the other, not both. It's either a driver problem, or a problem w/ the program itself, but it's a definite incompatibility that may or may not get fixed. System specs are below.

Thank you, Brennus. I did reduce the antialiasing to zero while maintaining the post effects. This action did improve memory consumption. It did make the program run "smoother" Unfortunately, "call me Ed, I want to be your friend" persisted in collapsing into incoherence once the chalk it the board. Of course, I later selected "Skip" and the speech and sound quality returned to quality levels. From this perspective it is a code problem. Pre-class and post-class room conversation is good. But once "Trainer Rick" initiates his lesson, he becomes incoherent.

With the absence of any and all documentation, the breakdown in communication sharply impairs obtaining full value from the product.

I am sorry, Emperor Ming, that is not a REALTEK site. That link is for a tool called Driver Detective, which for an initial free installation will pester you to death till you fork over the many quid or whatever queer things for its services to IDENTIFY for purposes of update any driver it esteems is out of date. I mistakenly followed this path and was intrusively reminded that several of my drivers were "out of date" according to the super sleuth, Driver Detective. Some of the internet drivers it found were of unknown or unused to the beholder. I eventually suffered a internet driver snafu when eliminating this intrusive sleuth from my system.

I have installed the driver version A.406 (18295K executable file) of October 1, 2008 which the REALTEK Semiconductor Company (not a secret santa) identifies as the most uptodate driver for its AC97 Audio Codecs family which is in my system as found in the DxDiag report.

Thank you

I had the problem until I switched out my GPU from a 512 meg to a new GTX260 and the problem went away but not sure if it was the GPU or the new drivers I installed?
