Decided today to pull the pin on my relationship with my Filipino partner. Why? I guess I can only post here and see if others would be as pi**ed as me;

I recently failed a final exam for air traffic controller training. Not one word of sympathy from her, even though she knew how much I wanted to do it.

I have flown to the Phil twice, called her three times a week, and have not received one return call, not even a card for my birthday.

Now she goes and put's in these 'conditions'

1. She will not get married to me unless I get a full time IT job in US/Canada.
2. She will not marry me if I don't buy a house in one of these places.
3. She wants me to pay her airfares and visa costs
4. She wants me to pay the kid's airfares and visa costs
5. She 'thinks' I should buy a car in the Phil for 'when we go back and visit'.
6. She will not give up her 'stable government job' to come to me unless I have a rock solid job.

Now, this girl lived in Australia for well over a year, and in my experience, work today is anything but stable (I been doing a lot of contract work) and out here at least, a lot of work (even HR, what she does) has gone contract.

She appears to be not willing to compromise on any of this.

Am I being too hard pulling the pin? Or am I a realist (Like I think I am)?

Andy.

This woman doesn't understand that "stable jobs" are gone. We're all self-employed; this is the innovation economy. She also seems "traditional" and by that I mean "the man pays for everything". Good riddance. A lot of foreign women have no problem doing WHATEVER is necessary to get into this country; you dodged a bullet. At least she was upfront about things, rather than lie and manipulate you for 5 years, then just pack up and disappear one day like happened to someone else here (who?)

Great, so your cousins who are not dating internationally have no problems.

The issue is with the high incidence of filipina women who date internationally in order to escape whatever problems they have at the expense of whoever falls for their tricks. And many of them are quite crafty.

Yes I am stereotyping but I did not label all filipinas as hussies. But if you're a western guy, with money, and you date a filipina woman, you're taking your chances moreso than if you were to date a girl from any other Asian country.

For what it's worth I've dated Koreans too and never had an issue with the "pay for my tickets and move me to Canada" thing. With filipina girls it's come up more than once.

Just sayin', that's all. It's kinda like the "americans are fat" stereotype. Not all Americans are fat but the stereotype exists for a reason.

Again guys, I can understand what you all mean, but she spent so much time telling me that she had been 'Westernized' by living here in Aus, that I guess I got sucked in.

I will also say that her family are all nice, professional people, her mum is very religious, really liked me, and will probably go ballistic at her for what she has done to me.

Actually, at least one of those cousins were dating internationally--an American--and did marry him eventually. But never did she force him to marry her or do so because she wanted anything along the lines that you are suggesting.

Perhaps it's semantics, but that sure sounds like you did label ALL Filipinas. Look I'm sorry if you had bad experiences with them, that sucks--but that does NOT mean that Filipinas are ALL like that. Just because you've dated a few that were bad apples doesn't mean other ethnicities aren't guilty of the same thing, let alone does it mean that just because it happened to you--one man out of a world of 6 billion people--that it will happen to everyone else.

All this aside, since this is about FishTaco's problem and not the race issue, enough already and let's help the poor guy out.

FishTaco,

Yes, her mom probably would go ballistic on her...at least one would hope so. But, you never know and whether she does or not, it's still your partner's own actions and decisions and no one else will change her mind but her.

Bones,

I did really love this girl, thing is now I'm simply not interested now, period. Her mum emailed me on a regular basis, so I just mailed her an apology to the entire family, they are all really nice people.

I had already planned a trip for us at Christmas, guess I'll be pulling the pin on that one. Might come stateside then to clear my head. In the meantime, I'll get stuck into my work.

Got no idea how I'm gonna get over not seeing my daughter though.

Andy.

FT,

Sounds like a plan. Although really you didn't have to apologize to her family--it was her decision that caused yours. You wouldn't have done it otherwise. But, very cool of you.

I do like how you are taking care of yourself. Clearing your head, immersing yourself with work. Coming stateside (or just going anywhere for a change of scenery) will help; I've done that many times myself. I'm sure if you go stateside one of us nearby would be happy to hang with you.

As for not being able to see your daughter--that one I'm sure is very difficult. I can only imagine that one. You do, however, have the right to see her, and should exercise that right when you are able to. Right now, just try to take it easy, build yourself up, and get through it. You're not going to be any good to anyone else (or any future significant other) until you are fixed up yourself.

v6,
boNes
