Hey all!

I'll post my problem here, it will be more appropriate than in the general RoF forum section.

So here it is.First things first. I'm running RoF on my laptop, a Toshiba P300 1EL. I know it's not a gaming machine like many of you folks have, but RoF happens to run surprisingly smoothly, with graphics high, except landscape in medium, grass and trees in low, and post effects everything off except drops and blood.

AA is deactivated, anisotropic is x8, and screen resolution is 1440x900.

Now to the problem i'm encountering, and have no valuable explanation to it.

Whenever i fly campaign mode, 1vs1, free flight or anything, it runs smooth as silk. So let's put that away.

When i run the user made mission "Smackdown", which i know is a stress testing mission with 24 birds + you in the sky, everything messes up in a very unusual way.

If i play Crysis in high detail on my rig, it will stutter you know, it won't be enjoyable at all, with a constant under 10 FPS. I understand why, and I accept it.

If i play the Smackdown mission, here is what happens:

-game loads, no problem
-game stutters a lot during 10 seconds, ok
-then, sound messes up. I have sound, but it is as if every sound was repeating very quickly without going on. Anyway sound is messed up.
-simultaneously, while the game is still pretty smooth with a short freeze now and then, happens this very weird thing:

- while i can fly smoothly, controls do not respond normally, as they should. Say i make a right turn. I turn to the right. Then i suddenly turn to the left, and still, the plane keeps turning to the right for 2 or 3 seconds before responding.

Same thing with the views. External view. Turning around the plane using my joystick button. The view will sometimes keep turning in the same direction, while i have released the button, and finally stop.

Let's go on to the next piece of information about my problem:

-If i activate autopilot, oddly enough, it runs better. Sound is still messed up though.

-AND, if i turn on Slow motion, no more problem at all...At all. NO MORE little freezes from time to time. NO MORE messed up sound, NO MORE strange control responses.

THat's it you know everything. Again, i know my CPU is not top notch and that i could expect the game to run badly under certain circumstances. But i don't understand why it reacts like that, and it doesn't look like any hardware problem i have ever known.
Controls just feel laggy, just like when you play in a MP game with a bad internet connection.

Can anyone please try to tell me why it runs like that, if possible? smile

I just can't get used to the fact that the game runs perfect on my CPU, and then has so many problems suddenly in this mission, just because of the planes, while still running almost smoothly. I wouldn't care to have a few stutters, if i could at least know how i can expect my plane to react!

Thanks in advance gentlemen!

Oh i think i forgot an interesting detail....

I had the opportunity of flying in a Multiplayer game, which was 6vs6....That make 12 planes in the sky, and no problem, at all. So now we know i can play with 12 planes simultaneously wink

But 24...? Why all these problems?

That's interesting and points to your CPU power perhaps

AI in a mission require the attentions of the CPU in order to fly the plane, human players do not

12 CPU-driven planes, hard work for the CPU

Hmmm yes that makes sense...I could add that it would explain why my plane acts strangely. Maybe the CPU is too busy to determine the movements of other aircrafts. While it is taking care of the others mine is left aside, and it's not fast enough to make it move properly it properly.

When i have those laggy moments, the cpu is focused on animating the other planes, not mine...Hmmm yes yes really makes sense!

Thanks Ming, maybe i'll sleep better with such an explanation.^^

Any other comment appreciated of course!

EDIT: and that would also explain why it's smooth in slow mo...Slower...So more time for the CPU to calculate things i guess...
