Okay, so I originally bought First Eagles a few months after it came out, and I played it some although at the time I was still very much into the other Thirdwire games (namely WOV & WOE), so I didn't play it a whole lot. I decided to come back to it, as recently I've been playing nothing but Il-2. I figured why not take a step further back in time and try this one out again. I downloaded the expansion pack, and the recent update, and although I don't have any mods or anything else installed, I must say I'm am really enjoying this title!

It's typical TK quality, but it's just different enough from the "jet" games to where it's really a whole new experience. I love dogfighting in it, and I recently discovered the various other mission types such as balloon busting and army co-operation. The ground attack missions in particular intrigue me. I wasn't aware that Camels and S.E.5's carried bombs, but I did some quick research and it seems the racks with four 20-lb. Cooper HE bombs were indeed really carried. It's fun trying to figure out how to hit stuff with them. It's certainly not easy!

Anyone have any tips for someone whos new (but not really) to the sim? Bombing tips? Other ways to get the most out of the sim?

I hope a lot of people play this game because it's a lot of fun!

(Oh, and somewhat off topic, but how do I know if my monitor is 5:4 or 4:3? It's a DELL 17-inch (or maybe 19-inch) LCD display, but I have no idea whether I should run the game in 4:3 or 5:4. Any ideas?

Is this forum completely dead? I thought this was a fairly popular game.

Can anyone recommend a forum that's fairly busy that covers this game? I'd like to really see what I can do to make the most out of it, but to be honest I thought SimHQ was the place to start......the lack of replies on this particular forum is very discouraging though. Any ideas?

Go to www.combatace.com and of course Thirdwire's own forums.

Yeah, combatAce is the place to go.

Bombing tips? IMHO its just practise.

But load up with Le Prieurs for Balloon attacks.

To get the most out of the sim?

Many addons, find or ask about: Edwards Flanders Terrain, the Tracer mod, GuitarClassics55's very excellent menu screens, SouthsideBuckys Sound Mods.

Many addon planes, some just must haves - Nieuports, Morane N etc: But lots of 1915-16 period planes, several dozen, and FMs are current to Nov 2008 patch (not all FMs are, the game keeps changing!).
