Well guys, this was my first online race, as I'm new to racing in general, but had fun even though I solidly held down the last position in the first race. Maybe I'm missing something here, but I can't quite figure out what all of you guys are in such a hurry for? smile

I apologize to anyone I may have caused problems for as I periodically slid right off the track. Are 'car resets' back onto the track allowed here? I never tried it, but it would have been helpful.

I also learned a lesson today - do NOT bind the "control" key to Teamspeak's PTT, as it often confuses your machine by being held 'stuck' and thus disabled my keyboard right before race 2 - thus I couldn't type in the server password, so couldn't get back in. Ah well, lesson learned.

Hehe, too funny GregP, we've all been there before. It's a learn as you go proposition. If you get a chance to jump online on the practice server before the race, that helps.

Speaking of making funny mistakes, I tried to jump in today at the very last minute, and was still getting the add on installed when the time for the race to start came up-bad way to start. I had reinstalled GTR2 as well.

All was good but my shifter started messing up and I got a bounce to desktop after the windows 'sticky keys' message tried to ask me a question. I just jumped out of the race.

I'd started having a problem with my Momo shifter automatically jumping up or down one gear last 'season,' and I thought that was what was happening again. Come to find out that I had autoshifting enabled and it was trying to autoshift while I was shifting normally. biggrin Kind of hard to drive like that.

Anyway, I ran a few more laps offline and boy, those bimmers are a lot of fun to drive.

Maybe I can catch the next race, now that I've got the bugs out...

Unfortunately there's another big computer change happening next week so I'll be uninstalling and reinstalling for a bit. We'll see how that goes. Until next time.

Last night I watched an episode of The Grid I had recorded on SPEED. They showed highlights from WTCC at Brno. Man, what a mess - at the start of the first race one of the BMWs was on the right side of the track and inexplicably moved left under braking, driving directly into, directly taking out 2 other cars, and causing all sorts of other problems. The ensuing mess caused a safety car that lasted for three laps. Smooth move.

These commentators were rather calm about the whole thing at first. The more times the replay was shown, the more incredulous they became.

Nimrud has made some excellent suggestions to help alleviate the connection problems encountered at Brno.

If you have multiple carsets loaded and had connection problems, try installing v1.1 clean and only the BMW mod.

Make sure your GTR2 connection is set for ISDN in Multiplayer's monitor window (RaceData).

Please connect at least once before Brands Hatch to ensure your connection is working okay.

We will add a second, short, qualification session and drop the warm-up session. With another qualifying session set to 5 minutes, drivers who disconnected in the first qualifying session would be able to rejoin and we wouldnīt need to restart the race. All drivers will need to stay in the pits for the second quali session and not enter the track. If there are no drivers needing to rejoin, the server will be advanced from the second qualifying session to the race. Any driver who drops connection and needs to rejoin will need to start from the back of the grid. The qualify sessions before the first race will count for the grid position in both races.

Starting at Brands Hatch, I will implement the server utility GTR2 Manager, and that will give us some sorting control of the grid. However, the less messing with that the better.

As mentioned earlier, please make sure you are monitoring Teamspeak.

Thanks David! That would be very much appreciated! Fact that you guys are doing it through quali sounds like I'm missing something in the files.

Hi Doug,

I guess I thought I might see something but there are no check boxes etc to choose when drivers can join the events. I have always been able to join events during qualifying and even just now I popped into the GTR2 lobby and joined a few races during the Q session just to double check and got in fine. Hope someone else can help figure this out before the next race.

Thanks for the work and see you at Brands, David K

David and Frank... please reconfirm it is absolutely GTR2 you guys run at ADC that allows entry in quali... or did I misunderstand?

There is no multiplayer.ini file inside GTR2, but there is a dedicatedserver.ini file instead. I checked through every line in it, and the server profile .PLR file and no joy on the line I need. There is the one line that refers to closed qualifying but it is marked with "0". After doing the Google thing, I found this:

http://forum.racesimcentral.com/showpost.php?p=3660839&postcount=5

That thread refers to Race07. I figured, NP! I'll just add the entry "ClosedQualification=0". Nope! GTR2 didn't recognize it. I tried other open/closed additions and resaves to the dedicatedserver.ini but each time it would kick the line back out. The server would run, not allow entry in Quali, then when I checked the line was gone.

More digging around needed. smile

Doug, I had a quick conversation with our server admin for GTR2, Steve Walsh over at the ADC about the problem and that is what he told me:

Quote:
0 should be the correct setting, from ADC .plr "Closed MP Qualify Sessions="0" // if true, the session will be closed during qualify, so as to not disturb the participants"

There is nothing in the DedicatedServer.ini file for closed quali.

1 thing is to make sure you have a driver profile starting with the letter "a" as some issues can be caused with the Dedi server only reading the first driver .plr file so if you have multiple drivers in the settings folder you might be changing the wrong .plr file.

The only other thing I can think of is are you trying to run Q1 or Q2, I think Q1 is sometimes closed no matter what you set but not 100% on that.

Let me know how you get on.

Steve

Maybe there is a problem with Q1 sometimes, though I canīt remember that when I used to setup a dedicated box for a small group of GTR2 drivers over at Frugalīs.

2 major problems. #1 Whatever I try I cant get into the SimHQ server, keep getting booted as possible cheat. #2 Offline, I can't get away from the pit box because of uneven terrain, i've reinstalled the track numerous times.
