As you noticed, multiplayer activities are not really up for now.
There's no dogfight arenas, and no server up with real elaborated coop missions. It will come, we just have to wait for (and maybe participate to build them).

I also hate dogfight style, and largelly prefer elaborate coop missions were you take up, navigate with your wingmens toward objectives, and where fight is only a part of the mission.

The RoF mission editor is really made for the last (complex, triggers, etc...)... so I have very good confidence we will soon see enjoyable multiplayer mission.

There you are, for all the naysayers who said that single player was being overlooked to support the multiplayer online experience... you couldn't be more wrong.

Both single player and multiplayer experience is so far embryonic at best biggrin

What is that charming phrase from Jane's All The World's Ships?

"fitted for but not with"

See, now you're talking my language, Rama. That's what combat simulation is about. Missions with objectives, requiring you to navigate to some target area, accomplish an assigned goal, and navigate back.

The difference is what sets sim pilots apart from online gamers.

I fly these missions regularly in an IL2 based campaign, on the excellent 1 to 1 scale map of The Slot.
Navigation by compass heading and stopwatch over hundreds of miles of open ocean. No land marks of any kind, to arrive at a mission specific target, take it out and try to survive all the way back to a tiny spec of land, and save the aircraft because we don't have many to loose. Teamwork is essential, as is proper command structure.

And it's a "dog fight" type server.

Missions last at least 3 hours, use historical plane sets, airfield locations, and unit sizes.

And did I mention it's a "dog fight" server?

These will come to RoF once all functionality has been implemented, and the mission editor is better understood.

The only "gamers" I see here are the ones who go online one time, in a poorly made scenario, get shot down, have their pride tarnished, and then call for the "whaaaambulance".

Sheesh.
