for some reason they always put a person who doesn't speak English very well as a helmsman on our ship, and they would have to use the 1MC but NO ONE could understand them

I know what you mean. On my old ship, with the exception of those of us working in Central, it always seemed like they had the people with the lowest IQ's or the most unintelligible accents talking on the 1MC.

You barely need a "green card" (which is actually blue, by the way) anymore. You just need to be willing to join. wink

I'm pretty sure there is/was an Army E4 on this forum who's Turkish and gained his U.S citizenship. He posted about it after his naturalization ceremony.

Sad as it is, its still safer then in Rio and many major cities in brazil, at least there you know you are in a war zone and you have the hability to shoot back and suport.
Here you may be living your normal dayly life tra la lala lah, and then RATATATAAATA out of nowhere and ploosh, one stray bullet ends you.
i'm sure there would be a lot of youngster who would do so for both the thrill and the gift of resident thing.

and maybe even a bigger number who would do so to go mia and join the insurgence to fight against americans.....yeah that plausible.
