Viks is just good, that is all. He found the "bat turn" (dialing in max trim while turning) exploit, but he wasn't the only one. It wasn't cheating as such, more just using what was available. However it was decided that if you are good and had the brains to get to know your aircraft inside out, then you are obviously a cheat.
IL2 had a very robust net code that made it very difficult to cheat in the same way people use hacks in the world of FPS. So most accusations of cheating were totally unfounded.

Chivas hit the nail on the head. Some people are legends in their own imagination, if anyone kills them then they are obviously cheating.

But wasn't it just this "Viks" (now with the RoF team) who was one of the worst cheaters in the IL2 servers back then ?........I may be wrong though .. and if i'm sorry.

Pretty poor form that post.

IIRC, Wasn't Catfish a known cheat, one of the worst. Used code exploits to change the FM and DM in Red Baron and IL2. Had quite a rep in the early days of CFS3 too.......but, then I again I might be wrong.

Oh this a hoot!

The Flying Barans competed internationally at sanctioned IL-2 tournaments around the world, on whatever gaming systems were provided, and have a wall of trophies because of it.

Behavior that these types of forum accusations represent seems pretty low, and it's a shame some do this, and against one designer of this sim in particular.

Frankly, I like the fact that ROF has a lineage of winners behind it.

Btw, VikS has been one of the most honest guys I've ever had the pleasure to talk with on the other side of the world, but that doesn't mean I want to go head to head with him in ROF either (although he's offered to enhance my dogfighting education a few times). hahaha

If mapping trim to a slider to tighten turns/turn while under g-blackout wasn't a cheat or game exploit why did Oleg code in a delay on trim to stop its use?

If it's available to everyone then it is not necessarily a cheat to use it. Oleg removing it was a good move. However it didn't stop Viks still being able to shoot down more aircraft than the average v.pilot.
If something is available to everyone it does not automatically make it a cheat to use it.
Sour grapes in my opinion.

We could go into a long debate over use of TIR, also considered a cheat by some of the over zealous on the forums.

I've never found MP dogfight servers much fun anyway so would never even bother to join one.

Hopefully coop will become popular once things get rolling.

Definitely Baz, count on it

It is an awfully difficult thing to control, one's jealousy on seeing someone slaughtering people endlessly. It is jealousy let's be honest while we're being honest, and that's not a bad thing if it encourages us to develop our skills: if we make our jealousy work for us Smile2 rather than feel trapped in negativity

Attempting to explain a pilot's long kill streak by saying he lives on the server makes one appear rather bitter. Maybe he does, who cares and it's like someone saying that the Red Baron shot everyone down when they weren't looking "I would have got him but he snuck up on me the cheater!"

This pilot has many kills, ok he or she will have to be shot down we'll act as a rabid pack he'll never survive a fight if we work together

And so on, have a plan and remember the wise saying 'Never complain, never explain'

Ming

Hello,

hey come on, i wrote i may be wrong, it is just what was spread over the IL2 forums long ago, and maybe it never really happened. Lots of bogus posted, i know.
Someone lurking around above 'dromes and waiting for beginners to shoot down just brings back some memories, yes. Viks, if you read this - I said i'm sorry, and i mean it.

All the best,
Catfish

Don't forget the game has been out in Russia for a few weeks now,so you can guarantee that some of them know all there is to know about their planes abilities and any exploits available.
Thats one of the problems with staggered releases.I'm sure once it is released in Europe there will be Euro's complaining about American flyers.

Staggered releases never stopped anyone from complaining, but I think we get the point about trying the *something* out first.
