Hello all,

I'm back to BOB2 WOV after a long break and am starting from the begining.

I found some info over at shockwave forum about assigning keys to fuelcocks, magnetos and starter, by modifying the a text file in the KEYBOARD folder of BOB.

However this did not change anything and the mouse is still the only way for me to start.

Would anyone have an idea of what went wrong ?.

I have another newbie question : what visual cues do you use to recognize the british airfields ? to me they look just like the other patches of green all over the map. Usually I call the tower, get a bearing, and finally see the airfield when I am much too close to attempt a proper landing procedure.

Thanks in advance, and Kuddos for the continuing developpment of this fine simulation.

Hi Bonggokid,

The BOBII manual will lead you through the assigning of keys for the manual engine start up sequence. If you have installed 2.09 the manual is located in the BOBII folder in the Docs folder (appendix H is the key description).

The British air fields were mostly grass and the British really did not want it to be too easy to spot airfields. The airfield in BOBII are a lighter green with hangers. Most all BOBII players adapt to the lighter green with experience.

Most of the people that can help you with BOBII hang out at the BOBII forum at A2A. Drop by and post when you need some help.

Study the manual and read all the "sticky" thread at A2A BOB forums.

As Buddye says, the manual will sort you out on the startup process with keys.

There is a significant change to the terrain coming in the 2.10 release (much higher res textures, totally remade from scratch) so the look and feel changes, but the airfields are no more visible than before. In truth, they were no more than fields and were hard to spot. With familiarity to the terrain you get to know how to get home (for example by following major roads and railway lines, which are all accurately modelled throughout South East England). And of course concrete runways are easier to spot.

Navigation was a huge problem in 1940, as excellent books such as First Light testament. Until you get to know an area, you can get lost so easily.

Having a decent map is invaluable for BoBII flying. Many have downloaded the 1938 maps available from the A2A site. I find them really helpful, personally, for areas of the terrain I know less well.

One other little trick is to use the F5 (Padlock message target) key. This will lock your view to the direction of the last message, or in the case of an airfield controller, the airfield. It makes things a little simpler while you're relearning the geography.
