hoping that LCDs will continue to increase in size...i'd love to own a 40+" monitor in a few years. don't really see any selections beyond 30" though on new egg. can anyone tell me if there's still a push in the industry to increase size? for the next system i build within a year or two, i want to get a blue ray burner drive, 7.1 speakers, one (or two) of the best videocards on the market, and the biggest honkin' LCD monitor i can possibly buy. no HDTV b/c they just don't have the resolution requirements i need, since i'm also gonna be gaming on it (bought and returned a 28" hannsG monitor b/c it only went to 1900x1220 or something and looked like crap...use a samsung 30" now that is 2600x1600 or thereabouts and looks great).

You want a 40"+ LCD on your desk? Not me, that is way too big for day to day computer use. Personally, I wouldn't want to go any bigger than 26 - 30". I used a Viewsonic 26" HDTV LCD as my computer monitor for a while and it was plenty big enough. Only issue was getting it to use PC res properly on a consistent basis and the dot pitch was not good enough.

There are commersial displays up to 50" or so but they are still 1920x1080, basically TV's really.
I believe I've read about some 4K resolution displays though, at about 65" or so, Sharp I think. But they are really for the film industry and would cost you an arm and a leg (probably both even smile ).

Look here (wow three years ago already!).

Or here (same panel presumably).

------------Edit----------
It was 64"...

And this 82" Sony.

heh, not ready to take that kinda plunge. i just hope the screen sizes continue to increase. i'm not interested in buying an hdtv, and i plan on putting in a blu ray burner drive in the next system i build, so having a 40"+ lcd monitor to work, game, and watch stuff on would be sweet. higher res and better picture quality on a great lcd than an hdtv.

You would put a 64" monitor on your desk? Are u nuts? smile I have a 50" Plasma HDTV and it is way too big for my desk or to use as a computer screen sitting just 2 feet in front of it.

God, I think that'd give me brain tumor after a while. I have a 22-inch Samsung that suits my needs perfectly. I've seen 24-inch monitors and thought, 'that'd be cool' but not enough for me to get over the sticker shock.

well, if i were to buy a monitor that large, it wouldn't be sitting on my desk. i'd put it on a stand a few feet back from the desk.
