First lets start off with a BOLD sweeping statement.... no one needs this help guide. But I am bored, CH is paying me, and I like to play around with GIMP(www.gimp.org).

Second, Rise of Flight is a BLAST. If you don't have it then you need to rethink wasting all that money on rent and food and reallocate it to a more useful and life fulfilling purchase... like Rise of Flight.

And now for something genuinely helpful....

Rise of Flight uses a “map” file to reference all of the commands in the game. This default file for this is called “input.map” and after you install Rise of Flight to it default directory it can be found at C:\Program Files\Rise of Flight\data\input”. The syntax for the commands is very simple and the file can be edited with any number of text editors, I suggest Notepad2 (http://www.flos-freeware.ch/notepad2.html). Some of you will NOT be comfortable with editing essentially and config file for your game and will instead choose to make all of your settings in the GUI which you can do. I prefer the text file as it is quicker for me and I make fewer mistakes.

I currently prefer to fly using three controllers: CH Combatstick, CH Pro Throttle, and CH Pro Pedals. They are all USB and I do have the CH Control Manager software installed but I did not need it for Rise of Flight.

I have written a Rise of Flight “map” NOT a CONTROL MANAGER MAP that I will post in this thread (and at the CH Hangar). It is called, interestingly enough, CH_Products.map .

In order for this to work you must be using the same three controllers I am and they must be listed in the Windows Control Panel under Game Controllers EXACTLY like mine are...

If you have the same controllers as I do then you can simply drop this “map” file in your inputs folder, select it in the Input screen and then play. Your AXIS and some of the buttons will be all set.

Here is how...

Launch Rise of Flight, wait for it to check your version, and then click on the “Settings” button...

When the Settings window opens click on the “Input” tab...

Click on the “Game Settings” drop down arrow....

Select the map file you would like to use and click on it...

Your selected map should now be listed under “Game Settings”...

Click on “OK” and go fly...

To hopefully head off the flood of posts in this thread I will address some issues right now.

“I have different CH controllers”
Then send me an e-mail(michael@chproducts.com) and I will write a RoF Map file for yours.

“I have someone else's controllers”
You did see the thread title right?

“I hate your button setup”
Then send me an e-mail(michael@chproducts.com) and I will change it.

“What ARE your buttons set too?”
See below smile

Great idea on this.
Still waiting for arrival here. Yes I might change some settings, but...

Having this kind of info BEFORE going into the initial setup is good.

Thank you! cheers

Does the "Michael is COOL.map" file get used much?

Brilliant, and super CH Products support.

Thanks Micheal (sending an e-mail for a Fighterstick/PRO Throttle/ PRO Pedals setup map, and looking forward to not having to use the Contrtol Manager utiility).

Nicely done Michael. I don't currently own CH gear but this is a timely and relevant bit of information.

I've copied your post to the WW forums as many of our squad members have CH gear and will find this most interesting. Thanks!

Micheal I have the exact setup you do but my map differs because I use the Throttle POV for "views"
and the Stick POV for "special views"

The special views are the ent right and left sides zoomed to my taste which show all the spad instruments, plus the down position is the ent pagedown to show the illusive radiator control lever.

The up position is F4 and Shifted is F1.

If you want a copy drop an e-mail addy to jharrison1943@cox.net and I will send it along smile

forgot to mention mine is a CH Control Manager Map

Finally got RoF delivered yesterday, and took my time on the initial setup. This kind of "setup guide" post does help the initial setup process - knowing what to expect. thumbsup

I had to resort to manually editing RoF's in-game .map file for throttle and rudder, changing "P" to "N" to reverse each axis. The reverse axis checkbox didn't do it - Zero frustration level there, having seen it posted in the forums. (My face was not sad, but it could have been.)

So far, I'm not sure if I'll end up using CH Control Manager with RoF. There may be others, but one reason I could see using it would be to alter control sensitivities/curves. Unless it's hiding somewhere, I haven't seen those controls in RoF.

Papa_K you cannot change their map you must first assign something and then save as "****.map" the **** being whatever name you choose THEN you into the note pad and reverse stuff in the ****.map file and it will work for ya smile
