It would be MY thoughts on a subject, etc. Whether it is technically correct or not, it doesn't matter. It would be a place for me to rant and use theories.

Well, you wrote you would put up stuff like your FOW series, so it seemed relevant to point out.

If you are giving your thoughts based on technically wrong or insufficient information, who will read it? If you give only your thoughts without technical information, will anyone read them?

Look, I'm really not trying to be mean or anything, but if you want enough people reading your material, you will need some kind of above average quality content. Saying "It doesn't matter if it's technically correct or not" is like saying "It doesn't matter if it's good content". It does matter.

And again, without wanting to be mean or disrespectfull, it sounds to me as if you're doing it mostly for the wrong reasons. It seems to me you're looking for recognition and validation from your readers (otherwise why ask how many would read it?), but on the other hand you aren't overly critical of your own content and don't want to put in the serious work to make it high quality.

The best way to start is always to just do something and don't give a crap if someone else reads it. If your content is new, great or just plain interesting for some reason, people will read it, it not then not.

Yeah, it has to be something you are passionate about because your readership will take time to develop. Much like writing novels, you generally struggle in obscurity for some time before suddenly something you write strikes a core and then somehow that truly takes off. I don't think you can base your opinion on the interest of people here - or anywhere.

Great chefs don't ask people if they are going to eat their food before embarking on that career. They have this passion and interest - even if they are the only ones eating. The consumers of their efforts come later - sometimes much later. But they would have continued their culinary creativity regardless.

Without a message, without some substance, without regular worthy content, a blog on any subject would wither away.

If you can't write more than three solid articles a week, time-wise, on topics relevant to your blog's niche, then your readership base will likely be very low. With enough people reading though, you can have other writers post on the same blog, to keep traffic very fresh with multiple updates within the day.

I've decided that I will not do a blog. I have not take the decision lightly, but now I think about it what I have to say you probably wouldn't want find interesting. Yes, there are too many blogs by people now anyhow. You don't need me adding to the list. So, I shall keep on making notes for myself - but will keep them for private use only - I do have to actually type stuff up as it's part of my nature. I will just continue to post here with thoughts and views if that's alright with you guys. Really, my thought processes are too complex to be able to translate and commit to paper (screen?) anyhow, and I think I have more than enough commitments already. Thanks people for bringing me down a peg or two! smile

Why keep it exclusively private though? Why not jot down your thoughts, but instead of posting on a blog of your own, just post them in this forum? That way we can discuss it with you.

I think he already started doing that with the thread "Had a bad experience last night."

Flyboy, if you're passionate about the subject then just write. Passion is a good start, but passion is a funny thing. It can lead to some very corny diatribe. And don't worry if people will read your work. Finish it, post it and if it's good then they'll come. Keep in mind, though, that you can't please every one. Now, here's how you avoid corny diatribe...after you think it's ready for the world, hang on to it. Wait a few hours, few days then read it again, because chances are you'll probably cringe at what you thought was awesome a few days ago. Really. Some of the reviews I've read here...ouch man.

The Colonel gave you good advice; don't give up because it wasn't what you wanted to hear. Nut huggers are great but it's them nutcrackers that'll make you better writer.

I don't know if any of you saw it in my new post, but I did decide to go ahead with a version of it and here it is. Not really a blog, just a collection of my views on military-related stuff and some info, reviews, etc.

Say WHAT?

I think you're kidding, but if you've never done a game or hardware review, you have no idea of the work that's involved. The preparation, the level of detail, making sure your facts are straight, submission to the editor(s), editing down to a published version, putting the code in, the videos, the screenshots, the sheer amount of your time. And then seeing if anybody even cares.

That last one is the worst.

And btw, I'll put our review quality up there with anyone anytime.

I'm not insulted, if I sound like it, sorry, but gotta set the record straight.
