Set your own resolution in Rise Of Flight
Please read all of the below.
My system falls somewhat short of the minimum requirements to run this sim. So I decided to try a little trick I learned from getting Lock-On Modern Air Combat to run decently on a REALLY crappy rig I had when it came out.
This worked extremely well for me. I went from getting 6FPS to nearly 18FPS by changing a few things about the "startup.cfg" file. It's a good idea to drop your settings before you change anything in your configuration file.
First open up your C:\Program Files\Rise of Flight\data directory.
Locate the startup.cfg file.
Right-click on the file, and choose "Open With". Select the program from a list, and choose Notepad.
Now you are looking at the config file in text format. Each item listed has a number next to it, or value. Look for this.
[KEY = graphics]
filter = 0
forest_quality = 0
full_height = 600 <-----------------here
full_width = 800 <-----------------here
fullscreen = 1
gamma_b = 1.000
gamma_g = 1.000
gamma_r = 1.000
grass_quality = 0
hdr_bright = 0.47000
hdr_contrast = 2.20000
hdr_quality = 0
land_textures = 1
multisampling = 0
post_blood_enable = 0
post_blum_enable = 0
post_cinema_enable = 0
post_dof_enable = 0
post_drops_enable = 0
post_effects = 0
post_saturation_enable = 0
reflection = 0
shadows_quality = 0
texmipdown = 2
vsync = 0
win_height = 600 <--------------here
win_width = 800 <--------------here
As you can see above, I run mine in the 800x600 resolution. There are entries to set both fullscreen (full_height & full_width) and windowed mode (win_height & win_width).
Just tell it what you want your resolution to be and save the file. Run the sim and it should increase your framerates. Remember, on low-end rigs, you should always set the graphics options to the LOWEST SETTINGS.
It's also very important that you always remember that if you change and save ANYTHING from the setup menus, you WILL have to go back once again and change your resolutions back to where you want them. So it's a good idea to drop your settings before you change your resolution.
Hope this helps!!
