That was a fun kickoff. 16 at one point so we had a nice turnout. Thanks guys for supporting it. I'm going to revise one thing. There is no sense in waiting to update for next Wed/Sat track. I'll load it now and post in here later. After next week your host will be EnvyODB (and Weasel_Keeper once he gets some bandwidth). Again, our goal is to keep it simple with fixed setups and new tracks, short 10 and 20 lap sprints, different times of the day, with some pit stops. So far so good.

Yep, good to get back in the proverbial saddle again. The only suggestion I might offer is perhaps we could add another track or variation into the weekly rotation. Six consecutive races at Toban "Long" while fun might've been more interesting if we had some variaty, like the short track or reverse, etc. Just a thought. Thanks for bringing it back Doug, and I must say, good to see you behind the wheel again.

The track for Wednesday evening, July 1 and Saturday, July 4 id GP-200 International where? One of the big goals of the regenerated Fun Series is to run only new tracks we've not held events before on. This is a good example of an rFactor "sleeper" track that I'll bet few of you have heard of before. Least I hadn't till I went searching yesterday. Anyhow, the rar is here, and SimHQ Motorsports 3 is online: http://www.simhq.net/downloads/motorsports/rfactor/SimHQ_2009_Fun_Series/gp200withkarttrack.rar

... Yes very good racing ... Fantastic racing indeed. LC, I do apologise for the clumsy bumps in race two ... I was having trouble predicting your line and braking points ... mind you, largely on account of my own rusty (read 'poor') racecraft. With a few more races, I'm hoping to become less of a hazard. The choice of Meganes and Porsches is working very well. Off the line, on long straights and on medium/high speed sweepers, the Megane can't touch the porkers. But on slow speed corners (especially those followed by short straights), a well-driven Megane has a chance. This means that, while the PCC's are undoubtedly the quicker class, the Meganes can on occasion get uppity if the track layout plays to their strengths. All this makes for fantastic racing! I would vote against handicapping the Meganes ... after all, this is a multi-class format, and its OK for the higher class to dominate most tracks. Besides, if a Megane were to take an overall victory somewhere, it'd just give us Megane pilots some extra, particularly satisfying bragging rights.

Just got back in... I missed that one. What version of Albi 2006 is that download for the next track? I can't really tell, but it's got a v1.0 ReadMe. If it matters, there's a v2.1 available at NoGrip. http://www.nogripracing.com/details.php?filenr=17744

Plans defeated by a 10-month-old granddaughter 'cutting teeth'. You cannot think when someone that small is pitching a fit at the top of her lungs, let alone clinging to your leg letting you know it up close and personal. Oy. Hopefully see you Wednesday, and maybe my ear will stop ringing by then.

... We may all be driving PCC next week. ... I'm absolutely loving the Megane! Being so well-behaved and free of any vices, the Megane makes respectable laptimes possible within 5 to 10 minutes of pre-race practice --- perfect for this series! (and, admittedly, my time availability ). It'd be a shame to not have them for the race. As always, great racing today. It was more demolition derby than racing from my vantage, but all in all, very good fun. At one point, with my steering bent and heavily favouring left over right turns, I caught myself thinking: "P-factor!" (fellow flightsim nerds will get the reference. ) Good stuff.

No worries Hap, the Meganes and the Porsches will always be availble to drive for many more weeks before we consider switching them off to other cars. I just meant to be competitive, Meganes drivers may need to drive the PCCs at Albi. We are trying to get tracks that allow an equal opportunity, but it doesn't always happen as planned. Let's see.

Albi 2006 V1.0 for rFactor When I posted a track link at NoGrip, you could be thinking, "It's from NoGrip, so it's probably for GTR2. Has he lost his marbles?" You might be on the right track there, so to speak. (The last comment at rFactorCentral said version 2 was at NoGrip, so I looked. They do have Albi, and a v2.1 for rFactor.) Any v. will do - another track I haven't tried

Replacement springs arrived today for my pedals, with any luck I'll get them back together in time for some wheel time this weekend.

Drats, The damage was worse than I thought. I guess that will teach me about diagnosing the problem without even looking at it. I know I needed the springs badly anyhoo but it looks like I'm either going to need a new pedal or cannibalize my clutch. Luckily I think a replacement pedal is available however that keeps me down until next weekend sometime at best. I "might" try the default pedals that came with the wheel in the meantime but learning new dance steps with those could be ugly as they are krapola. Could one of you fine gentlemen have a word with Logitech and have them get the G27 out the door sooner rather than later? Who was the punkyfoo who said the future is in plastics, I clearly need some cold hard steel or I'm spending way too much time on the stopperizors.

Hi all, I'm up for joining you lot in this fun series, am a total newbie to rfactor, been playing racing games for years but this is the first sim I've ever had a go at, it even made me want to buy a G25 wheel I play race driver grid alot but online play is being ruined by all the kiddies, hackers etc etc but going from grid to rfactor is a major shock to my driving style so a fun series is a good place for me to start online racing with this great sim. I take it the SimHQ server will show up in the server listing in rfactor? Is it running all the time as I couldn't find it when I just checked in rfactor a minute ago.

Hi Smartie, Welcome! This post should give you some additional info: http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/2579226/STICKY_Want_to_race_online_at_.html#Post2579226As for locating the server, yes it is listed as "SimHQ Motorsports 3". You'll probably have to refresh the view and sort it a coupl times for it to be visible. Also you can increase the viewable servers by going into your "multiplayer.ini" file (..rFactor\UserData\your player name\multiplayer.ini) and changing: Concurrent Server Updates="400" to Concurrent Server Updates="800"

Are we still driving at Thermalito West this week? Not that I would mind at all, as it is a very nice track - I'm just wondering.

I got the cars installed easy enough but can you guys give any pointers on how to install the Thermalito track? Thanks in advance. Hey Elysian...unzip the Thermalito.zip file pack to any place u like and then take the ThermalitoV1_55 folder(its inside the pack u just extraced) and put it in the Locations folder(rfactor\GameData\Locations).I hope that helps.

Pretty sure the better drivers here drive with both feet, however I'm not one of them. I do origami with my left foot when I race. :Þ

You gotta do two feet if you wanna be really fast in the faster cars I think anyway. I also have problems with coordination (dyspraxia), but one foot should be fine in the slower cars.

Hey thanks, that did the trick As I am a noob to this and have some difficulties with cooridination (multiple scleriosis) do you guys drive with 2 feet on the pedals or just one? That is a cool track BTW. Fun cars too. Well if you wanna be realistic then you use your left foot for the clutch only (if auto clutch is off) and your right foot for accelerate and brake. Only with the F1 mods do I left foot brake as that's what they do in real life as the clutch is operated by hand.

Good tri-split screen showing everything working away. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V-aYaMciQyg (no embedding) For front-wheel-drive cars use the left foot for clutch and braking to balance the car.

I always shift true to life. So in the 911's Meganes etc I will flat upshift, clutch and HnT (right foot brake) on the downs.
Then in the F1's I will left foot brake.
But there are no rules as such. When I HnT I will also left foot brake on the corners where I dont need to downshift which balances the car.

(I'm not arguing - just asking) IRL I've never found much use for left foot braking - I find a minute lift is just as good and more precise (but I drive cars/set cars up so that are very biased toward trailing throttle oversteer).

Great fun! This coming week: Meganes v2.02 at Orchard Lake Grand Prix. Races will be reduced in length to 5 laps. Some with mandatory pit stops, some at night. If you need to download the Meganes mod, its here: http://simhq.net/downloads/motorsports/r....02_by_RSDG.exe

A couple quick questions.
I have been playing RFactor for a couple of weeks with a gamepad, and just got a new MOMO wheel hooked up and working tonight. What a difference...
The one thing I am thinking is that my kids can watch me race online, so I can actually have some game time before bed (not like Arma2, where they can't really watch me play it, too violent). Anyway, does anyone see a problem with this (I am thinking mostly of language over comms. I will likely be wearing a headset anyway for my TrackIR, and could turn down the external speakers low if it is typical that some 'F-bombs' and whatnot have a tendency to get dropped over comms. Either way, just a heads up on what to expect with the language so I can be ready for it.
I just ran some laps with the Meganes and the Orchard Lake Grand Prix, had lots of fun, cool course.
Anyway, I will try to meet up for the Wednesday night race. 8PM is 6PM my time. About how long does the race last, start to finish? About an hour? Also, for the Meganes, are they all the same? I was using the Euro one I think.
My goals for the evening will be to not cause any accidents (other than my own of course), and finish the race.
Any suggestions or thoughts for a total newbie to online racing would be appreciated.
Cheers!

It is definitely always 9:00PM EST on Wed, 1:00PM EST on Saturdays.
I think the damage settings for the fun series are pretty low and your realism options are fine, it's all very casual.
Don't have a G25 so I can't help much there but on my wheel I only have views, pit limiter, headlights ( and horn :Þ ) mapped.

I use a G25. I don't have the FF or wheel settings in mind now, as this is in any case an area where I need to do some more work. But the mapping is this:
Left wheel button: neutral Right wheel button: Switch for the menu ( enginr temperature, pitstop settings, wheels temperature and damage, etc.)
The shifters on the wheel are used for their intended purpose.
The four red buttons on shifter unit from left to right: ignition, starter, horn, asking for pitstop
The four black buttons on top of shifter unit. Left: rev limiter for pitlane top: increase boost right: temporary boost bottom: decrease boost
The boost may get mapped to my Saitek controller though with three levers, which I use for brake balance and seat position (high and low) so far.
Regarding foul language, we had this very briefly once this year, and it didn't last long. Usually you will hear some comments in good fun and camaraderie with some laughter. And if I curse I do it only without having the speech button active and do it in German then.

MojoFlow, love to see you join in. The Fun Series is definitely cold drink and Cheetos racing. We have traction control and stability driving aids turned on, but its elective to what setting they're used, if you choose to use them at all. As said, super short races are to allow lots of drivers to compete. Please join in on Teamspeak. If someone gets disconnected, they can come back in and we will reset the track so they can enter. All Meganes models are available, but it would be good to grab one with headlights. The endurance cars have them. More details available from the "Multiplayer" page link on the SimHQ top navigation bar. And yes, it's 9 PM eastern. I will change the text error.

I honestly cannot recall *ever* hearing the F-bomb on TeamSpeak. The very occasional "$#!+!", a "damn!" or two, and more often me trying to get my dogs to shut the heck up about the "Ninja Squirrels" approaching across the driveway. I know I've heard far worse on "The Simpsons"... G25 here, not much mapped except the pit speed limiter on the shifter lower row, and brake bias on the upper / lower button diamond on top. It's been so long since I've had time to run rFactor, I really can't remember the keys.

I would appreciate some pro/con feedback on this. I'd like to see us stay with the Meganes / Porsches / built-in rFacotr cars through the end of September, then switch off to this: http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=Série Internationale Du Mans (log-in to rFactorCentral to view) ...for the last quarter of the year. We wouldn't run all classes each week, but rather would run different cars of one class each week. For the Fun Series, we would stay with 5 and 10 lap races, one after another, with some mandatory pit stops and compressed time. If there is enough positive reaction, and the game server survives past year end, we my want to look at that class of car for a new series post the F1 year. My idea would be to run short races with the cars along the lines of 2x 30 minute races for that new series.

Looking forward to the race tonight. I ran some laps last night, and it was a good thing I did. Up until now I had been running with anti-lock brakes on, so I turned that off, and am getting used to that (ie. not making a huge smoke show at every corner). I am running around 1:30-1:33 consistently, but got a few laps in at 1:27 and 1:28. Anyway, I may be slightly late meeting up with you guys, but I will do my best to get there on time. guod, I couldn't get that link to view properly for the cars you mention to switch to. Is it this one: Le Mans 2.77 How do the cars behave in that mod? Currently, I am pretty comfortable with the Meganes, but I have problems still with the Porsches. I am hoping to be able to regularly make the fun series, but I am pretty open to what you guys want to race, since at this point I am a total newb, and don't really know one way or another. Cheers!

Fun racing on Saturday at Orchard Park. Good turnout too! Encouraging. Seems the Wednesday night US and midday worldwide approach is working well. I would still like to get SOME COMMENTS on my proposal here: http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/2857312/Re_STICKY_The_SimHQ_Fun_Series.html#Post2857312Varano is up for practice on SimHQ Motorsports 1. Since there is no F1 race next weekend, it'll be online all week.

Regarding the LeMans series, personally I`d prefer the 1970s series then with shorter races of 15 minutes. I don't know, maybe this should be tested before? That said, any series is still better than no series at all, so I'm principally fine with it. Well, I commented on it. Having tried the 1967 mod I have to say it would also be an ideal choice for fun races or even an F1 season.

There was racing Saturday? I'd been on the server from 12:20 EDT until just shortly before 1, and no one had shown / popped in / checked on TeamSpeak except Ahmad, and I never heard him. Spent the rest of the day bashing drywall, repairing windows and other renovation crud, then managed to stay awake through the Sprint Cup race (no easy feat, all that relentless left turning... ) The ALMS mod looks like the stuff I can sink my teeth into, carry on!

I'm kind of in Ahmad's camp in that I'd like to use the endurance series. Not that there's anything wrong with ALMS but the enduracer mod is pretty slick. The P1's and P2's are really something but I find myself wheeeling the GT1 Aston Martin more often than not. Could be a way to even the field as well and stick Ahmad in a GT1 or 2 whilst everyone else can use a P1 or 2 if they so desire.

I can't actually physically control the GT2 cars in the enduracers mod even with TC on. Just my 2 pence.

Every Saturday at 1 PM eastern time. Because everyone is so tight on free time, most players are blocking that time, and don't appear much before the "official" start time. We had (I think) 10 drivers at one point?

I am not really in a position to comment on which mod we should use, I will try to give each of them a spin soon though.
The shorter format races work much better for me, for instance, tonight for the fun race, I will be joining at the start and have time for qualifying and a race or two, then have to disappear for a bit to put the kids to bed and hopefully get in another race or two after that.
Also, regarding the course tonight, I am really struggling with this one. I am having problems turning consistent laps and quite often I am spinning out exiting certain turns. There is also some pretty bumpy sections, specifically the chicane at T8-10, pretty crazy. I have made some improvements though, but I can't drive it anywhere near as consistently as Orchard Park.
Anyway, I am wanting to learn by keeping all of the driving aids off, but I am wondering if this is a good way to go or not? Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.
Cheers!

Apologies for not showing up, been dealing with a suspected H1N1 infection since Monday. It's just no dang fun to sit at the computer, alternately shivering and drenched in sweat.

I won't post this after every session, but until I have the website setup with proper links and such, here are a couple of the race results from last night: http://www.rowlinson.ca/rfactor/2009.9.16_varano%20de'melegari/g_info.htm http://www.rowlinson.ca/rfactor/2009.9.16_lienz%20gp%20short/g_info.htmI am going to do some 'tracking' on my progression and (hopefully) improvement in rFactor both online and offline. There are some interesting tools for statistics. Last night (after the races), I separated out a driver profile for racing online and one for offline, in order to do proper 'career reporting'. I will post again once I have the website setup. Cheers!

Hi guys, just wanted to introduce myself. I am a friend of Haphazard and have been racing as him (much to his protest) in the past 2 or 3 fun series races. I have heard a lot about rFactor and the SimHQ community and have always wanted to get into it. Hap let me use his setup as a testing ground. I enjoyed myself a lot and decided to take a deeper look into the world of sim racing. I am still very new to this (never played a sim before) so excuse me if I do something silly (like not letting you pass when you are laping me :P). I am still trying to learn all the ropes but I am sure it will come to me quickly Feel free to point out any blatant faux pas you see me commit. I am usually up on TS during race time. Looking forward to our next race

Next week: Porsches at Death Valley Raceway ... Need some feedback on this track/car combination. The faster Porsches with the faster, multi-elevation Death Valley track seems like a good mix, but if you all think differently, please speak up. If you like it please speak up too. TIA! Server is up-and-running with the cars and track right now. Amused! If you hear someone say, "Oh! POO!", it may be because they just discovered how to point the nose in a turn with Power Off Oversteer. The vehemence with which they speak the acronym may give the listener a hint as to how hard the Porsche just bit them / how hard they're about to hit the obstacle they inadvertently aimed at. So, if you hear "Oh, $#!+!" on Teamspeak, they did not swear, they were invoking a 720-degree spin into the catch fence. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

Important news regarding the Fun SeriesFor the week of September 28th we will stay with the Porsches one more time. The track will be Livet Glen FBMW UK configuration in the *dry*. For the week of October 5th we will switch to the Endurance Series mod and run several variations on car sets which will change each week. For the first week with the Endurance Series mod, we will use DBR9s only, so start practicing! The track will again be Livet Glen FBMW UK configuration in the *dry*. Staying 2 weeks on the same track is to help drivers adjust to the switchover. After that, we will resume going to a new track each week. The new format will be 5-lap races, 10-lap races, then one 30-minute feature race. Depending how the longer 30-minute race is accepted, we will add a 2nd race in following weeks, or revert back to our familiar 5- and 10-lap races. It's up to you the drivers so say what you want, and don't want! Well the Porsches were fun but I'm really looking forward to the Endurance cars. I have a few possible track suggestions, all of which I've tried of course. They all work well with these endubuggies.
Mid-Ohio, a classic
Vitus, lots elevation changes, very fast and very slow sections
Rouen-Les-Essarts, very fast curves
LagunaSeca, another classic
Mosport, weeeee...
Just some suggestions, I'm sure whatever is posted will be fun.

Well the Aston Martin's were kind of a mixed bag experience at Toban last night. They really need some room to stretch their legs and unfortunately Toban doesn't really lend itself to that sort of racing. We all wished we had a faster course as these GT1's were a hand full in slow corners.

I will miss Saturday, so I'm not gonna vote But I have to agree, on Wednesday, and just in general I had problems with that car in slower corners. I thought I was being careful, but all of a sudden my tail-end would swing right out on me. Granted, a better driver wouldn't allow this to happen (like the other guys on Wed.), but I didn't seem to have those problems in the Porsche. I have to get more used to the Aston Martin's power I think. Cheers!

The current cars are unique to put it mildly. They have a very strange (unstable) feel to them. Even straight line braking with no downshifts the back end kicks out almost uncontrollably.

The current cars are unique to put it mildly. They have a very strange (unstable) feel to them. Even straight line braking with no downshifts the back end kicks out almost uncontrollably. I agree. I got a chance to drive a few laps on Wed and found the car to be close to undriveable. As Birdski says, the rear can snap oversteer uncontrollably in all regimes: high speed, low speed, straight line braking, trail-braking, etc. Whats more, the car behaves quite the opposite during cornering, acting more like a heavy, underpowered FWD/FE setup with heavy understeer irrespective of throttle on or off input. Needless to say, throttle or brake steering is out of the question. On the rare occasion when I was able to arrest a snapping tail, the understeer kicked in (almost as if it were scripted) mid-correction, resulting in an almost comical, slow-motion, four-wheel drift. Unnatural, and wholly unsettling. An unpleasant car to drive indeed.

Let's shelve the Endurance mod for right now. Enduracers is working on Service Pack 1 and hopefully it will address the handling and stability problems you're experiencing. Let's go back to flying shoeboxes. A new mod is out for the Clios, so download it here from SimHQ: http://simhq.net/downloads/motorsports/rfactor/SimHQ_2009_Fun_Series/ClioCup08_v1.7zThe file uses 7z compression. Download the free extractor if you do not already have an extraction utility for 7z files: http://download.cnet.com/7-Zip/3000-2250_4-10045185.html?tag=mncol Lets use the same track from last week, Mid-Ohio. You can download it from here if you haven't already: http://www.simhq.net/downloads/motorspor...110_rFactor.exeIf you all like the new Clios we will stay with them for 3-4 weeks to give everyone a chance to download the mod. Please keep your Endurance Mod v1.2 installation. We could go back there after assessing Service Pack 1. Would appreciate feedback on this and the Clios mod after you try it.

Results for the last race from Saturday is here: http://www.rowlinson.ca/rfactor/funseries_2009_10_24/index.htmlThe replay file is available. Please note that Birdski gave us all a full 30 seconds headstart. I will try out the Clios, hopefully I can handle them better than these last ones. Cheers!

Sorry to see the Endurance cars go as the GT2's had some issues but as long as we bring them back after SP1 that's cool. Would really like to give the P1's and P2's and the vettes a go sometime. Perhaps I missed them while I was trashing through Europe last week.
Mojo, I think you'll find the Clio's a lot more predictable although I haven't tried the new version yet.

Thanks Coutie,
I actually did some more testing last night, and did reverse it, and FF was really good then, but there was still one problem.
When driving straight, not turning at all, the wheel 'wobbled' back and forth, sortof an oscillation. Is anyone else seeing this? I have a Logitech MOMO (black) wheel. I played around with some of the settings (like smoothing) in the .ini, with no luck.
After reversing the FF I really like how it feels, and would love to drive with it, but the oscillating while going straight is pretty unbearable.
Cheers!

Fun races tonight, I like this car, it seems to be a good one for beginners, hopefully the veterans enjoy it as well. Here are the race results for tonight: Race 1 Race 2 Race 3 The replay files are included on the results page. If you have a chance check out the last couple of laps of 'Race 2', nice battle between Coutie and DC.
