This years RAF Cosford airshow was blessed with hot and sunny weather, a capacity crowd of 58,000 meant that the police closed the base at 13.30 & thousands of folks filled the country lanes around the base......Vulcan fever had hit !

Despite the glorious weather I still found myself shooting at ISO 400 & 1/2000 or 1/2500 for the most part.......my left arm seems very weak nowadays and coulped with a complete lack of practice I really did struggle to hold the old bigma steady.
So, I'm now asking myself if I should be looking at a monopod, I've done all the usual searching and results for airshow work are usually saying they're more restrictive to be useful.....any thoughts for you guys ?

Lovely shots there mate. 'Fraid I can't advise on the tripod/monopod issue; I only have an amateur 300mm, and at just below 1.5kg the whole lot is fairly easy to manhandle. I can't wait to use it at Duxford in a couple of weeks.

Personally I've given up trying to use tripods / monopods at airshows. They're restrictive, people get in the way of you (and vice-versa) and they slow you down. Far better to get down the gym, pump some iron and you'll soon get used to carrying the Bigma around
